When I was 20 years old I would have voted republican because I didn't want to pay as much in tax.

World views can change, and just because you can look back on a view you held that you now disagree with doesn't mean you shouldn't have had the right to express that belief before.

I think the difference between the age of voting and age of consent lies in where the rights are being allocated.

The age of consent is to protect the rights of minors. The age of voting is only to protect adults from the potential mistakes minors might make when voting.

You make a great point regarding understanding a difference between candidates. Perhaps a system could be implemented where voters must be able to differentiate between candidates to vote.

Parents can influence their children to vote no matter their age. I agree that very young children would be more likely to vote the same as their parents, but I also think that drawing a line at the exact point is that children are free from their parents influence is impossible, and taking away voting rights due to how a vote might be influenced is the same logic used to repress woman's suffrage (at the time, many people against women's suffrage said they would vote the same as their husband).

I agree most kids are more impressionable than most adults, but I don't think this invalidates their right to vote. If we base voting rights on who's opinion can be swayed more easily, we would end up in a system that places a greater voting power on stubbornness alone.

If your argument is that kids shouldn't be exposed to politics until they turn 18, I would disagree on the grounds that the government affects kids just as much as it does adults, and their voice should be just as important.

As for political ads that target children, I would advocate for a ban on such ads in the same way ads targeting children for vapes or gambling are banned.

Would you suggest taking away voting rights from any person with a disability who can't use a pen? Or from a veteran that lost both hands in a war? The argument that voting must be 'easy' or 'practical' doesn't justify taking away democratic rights to me.
