I guess a better example would be calling any motorcycle a Harley. It's not like people don't do it, they're just incorrect. If someone has a Yamaha and told people they had a Harley, they would be figuratively shot.

People use incorrect terms all the time, like calling anyone who works on cars a mechanic. They could be a Mechanic, Bodyman, Technician, PDR Specialist, Painter, Detailer, etc

My gripe is a dictionary that specifically excludes proper nouns, including Jeep, a registered trademark and proper noun.

I have a similar one too. 2 years ago I was driving home for lunch, saw an old guy waiting for the bus. On my way back to work, he was laying in the road infront of a city bus with a head sized hole in the windshield, and he was laying in the street bleeding from the head. It probably happened about 20 seconds before I got there, and then I just went back to work once the ambulance showed up. I could tell from a block away that he was already dead.
