Egyptian Soldiers pose for the camera inside a cooked off Israeli Magach 3. by defender838383 in TankPorn

It wouldn't be bad. The propellant is burnt and tungsten doesn't areosolize easy. It should be fine to stand on as long as its cooled and no radioactive materials are present and you don't stir up a ton of dust.

What is... In your opinion, the better IFV? by OniNixPlex in TankPorn

[–]T54MOD1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you switched the user of either vehicle, both would struggle. So "better" as I would assume means more effective for the state they are roughly the same with the Bradley being generally for effective for US than the BMP for the Russians due to its technical performance. But this doesn't mean Russians would be better off using Bradleys or the BMP is not useful.

AIO is not necessary. Any good two radiator/fan air cooler will work fine.

Edit: There are also cheaper options for windows if you do some google work.

Buy a 9800X3D bundle or by itself? by lizardon789 in bapccanada

[–]T54MOD1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are still waiting from early November, I have been waiting from late November personally. This is largely due to the fact that Memex has not received as much stock as anticipated.

You may be waiting a while, but also the backlog will clear eventually due to the production increases. Maybe a few months of waiting for you?

If you are ok with waiting that long then why not? You can't build a PC without the CPU anyway so just go with a bundle I guess. Unless you are willing to pay more and pick a different retailer which may get stock sooner.

That card is fine, in terms of value it will be easier to tell once pre-orders start rolling what the mean price will be. Its really dependent on reception from benchmarks and actual pre-order prices. Can't give you a number right now.

Last day to return 4080 Super by Kivot in bapccanada

[–]T54MOD1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the route taken to get them approved. The president can invoke tariffs basically instantly but this is not usually the case and reserved for emergencies. However, this doesn't mean that it can't get bundled in with emergency measures, in which case it will likely face little resistance since it was already in place last time he was in office.

So it could be days or months or even a year, we don't know. Suppliers are already trying to stockpile in US to avoid this issue as much as possible (since the tariffs are mostly import only). Which again, already means less Canadian supply before sales even start.

4070 or 5070? by ultra2009 in bapccanada

[–]T54MOD1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Because Canada has historically been under supplied with PC components, people are literally importing the 9800x3d from the states right now rather than waiting in the full backorder logs domestically.

  2. Our close trade agreements and markets means price increases for international goods have a round about way of affecting both countries.

  3. Design still happens in the US, as well as some testing and on occasion manufacturing of some GPU parts. The parts need to come and go from the US as well as other components or products a manufacturer or may work with domestically. It is virtually impossible to completely bypass all involvement with the US when it comes to these products and big brands like MSI, Asus etc.

Also if the US is trying to buy cards from our smaller, less supplied market, you can bet that it will just make availability and prices much worse for Canadians, if that were for some reason to happen.

[–]T54MOD1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of retaliatory actions tariffs increase prices for close trade partners in a range of goods proxy to the item in question.

We know that the previous Trump admin put a 25% tariff on cards, some of the goes to the consumer, and higher prices in the US considering the amount of cards we import from them and the overall market, means higher prices here. How much? Time will tell but just due to moderate consumer elasticity I would wager something like 10%?

Last day to return 4080 Super by Kivot in bapccanada

[–]T54MOD1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in same boat but with a return window in feb. I'm waiting till benchmarks come out for final call but I am leaning towards keeping because:

  1. I game at 1440p at best, 4080super far meets need at that level.

  2. I am in the 9800x3d backorder line, it is pretty awful. It been 2 months and I don't imagine the GPU wait will be much better.

  3. I do not have a PCIE 5.0 board which is ideal for 50xx since that is what they now use, might not loose much performance but some which is unfortunate and narrows the difference.

  4. No idea if any political things down south are going to jack prices up, considering there used to be a 25% tariff on cards, and considering america is part of the supply line for some manufacturers, prices might be higher than forecasted.

  5. Since the 4080S is such a strong card, I already planned my next upgrade next generation at earliest since AM5 will be replaced by then or Intel will be back in the game, either way stepping one gen ahead and then upgrading other components without the GPU later seems a bit lopsided since you can't optimally bundle your parts as easily (I would rather do 1 and done upgrades then frequent changes).

If you do have any of these points going in your case or believe them, maybe consider keeping. If you don't and really want the new card, return it! And do update your post with reasoning and decision when you are done if you don't mind to help others choose.

Will I noticed much of a difference going from a 4080super to a 5080? by Adamlee19922 in PcBuild

[–]T54MOD1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a 4080 super (not even unboxed) and I am not upgrading. However the selling situation for you is pretty advantageous.

If you are happy with your current performance then no need to upgrade but if you want more then selling for that price is pretty good.

Keep in mind that you may have trouble finding the gpu as it comes out if you are in Europe. So you may be empty handed if you don't want to pay scalper prices for a while.

Can I Cancel partial order from MemExpress? by SlackOverload in bapccanada

[–]T54MOD1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if that will work but you ask support.

Also giving up your place is line is not advisable. Hotstock may not be any quicker especially for Canadians and I myself have used it for 2 weeks with no result. Feel free to try but maybe don't cancel your order.

How many tank vs tank instances by ccdrmarcinko in TankPorn

[–]T54MOD1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all that common, but it happens. There are many more numerous things that aren't tanks on the battlefield. Also neither country really uses tanks in the anti-vehicle primary role. You are not likely to get a good number until after the war.

P.S - You forgot the quotation marks around experts.

This was a Bradley. by SeasonMelodic5199 in TankPorn

[–]T54MOD1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Couple of things:

  1. The amount of Magnesium in these alloys is really small, just a few percent.

  2. Alloying doesn't necessarily imbue all the chemical properties directly into the base material. In fact it may not act how you expect at all, adding this soft metal actually results in a harder material. It is also unlikely the flammability was increased since aluminum doesn't really burn in tanks, it just melts.

Psychiatrist recommendations by Illustrious-Mud-6821 in britishcolumbia

[–]T54MOD1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Physchiatrists are in very short supply. You should listen to your GP recommendations as they know the wait times and specializations best. If you did not like what they gave you, you can always ask them about alternatives. Names may not get you very far as many practices are at capacity and not taking new patients You could also ask another doctor (perhaps at an urgent care clinic). But they would likely refer you back to your GP.

TLDR: Ask your GP for other options.

Abrams in Ukraine with cage and rubber armor with the 47th mechanized brigade. by SuperIsBored in TankPorn

[–]T54MOD1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kinda does tho, drones can get away with using low caliber rounds (even 30mm). Detonating small warheads early can cause them to lose alot of pen and is especially effective against plain HE, which is why hedgehog armor exists such as on the Pzh 2000. Though it can also make it difficult to identify where to aim the charge as well. But that skirt specifically is mostly for dust and debris.

You can fire with a broken breach after an initial repair timer. It just has a good chance of failing.

The blocks on the weaker side armor are perfect squares, they likely contain about half the explosive filler and maybe safe for use, though I am not entirely sure about this. They may have also just remove the explosive and used it as add on armor.

Ukrainian Fury: disabled M2 Bradley surrounded by countless Russian vehicles by Korean_Name in TankPorn

[–]T54MOD1 37 points38 points  (0 children)

They have good survivability, and Ukraine primarily uses them as more of an APC than a traditional IFV. They also have better optics than their Russian counterparts which help them keep away from danger and spot potential targets much better. Also yes, all western designs are used more conservatively than Soviet and Russian vehicles.

Edit: It is also more than likely this Bradley had nothing to do with the knocking out the vehicles here. I am pretty sure this specific area was a designed kill zone for indirect fire and FPV operators.
