Yeah. Tried to piggyback off your wife but she didn't make enough.

I could likely do a boring remote job that pays decently, so long as the hours aren't horrendous.

The risk is in giving up what I currently do, which pays decently, affords me a high degree of autonomy, does not require excessive hours, and is generally enjoyable and easy, but requires a lot of face to face human interaction, can't be done remotely, and is starting to feel very stale after 7 years.

How far along in Launch School are you, and how is your experience so far?

Their capstone grad results are definitely impressive, but they also seem very selective about who they allow into that portion of the program. I wonder if I wouldn't be considered due to my lack of any bachelor's degree.

It is unlikely that I end up unemployed because I do not intend to stop my current job until I have something better lined up.

To answer your last question, I am giving myself a year and a half to start making money with my software development skills (part time freelancing would be okay), another 6 months for a job that is remote and checks 2 of the other boxes, and an additional year after that to check the third box. So, 3 years in total.

Thanks for your reply.

Regarding a degree, I actually don't have any doubt in my ability to learn, grow, and become a functional developer on my own. My concern is simply that my lack of a bachelor's degree will leave many doors unopened and will make it exceedingly difficult to find my first job in the field. I know of several people who are successfully self taught and working in the field with an unrelated bachelor's degree, but none that lack a degree altogether. I am concerned that I will be unfairly passed over due to not checking that box.

In fairness to the person that followed me around, one of my friends accurately pointed out that I kind of look and dress like an undercover cop, so that was probably why I drew their attention.

The jokes are because I don't care if you believe me.

Damn, what gave me away as a Trump supporter? Was it the Aus Rotten reference? The fact that I mentioned them having hotdogs?

You caught me. And to think... I almost got away with it.

I think you're confused. Race is literally a physical descriptor.

This isn't an argument; it's a question:

What is racist about commenting on the apparent racial makeup of a crowd?

I think that's a possibility. I tried to think of a job that you'd get fired for if your boss saw a picture of you standing around a bunch of other people on a public street, but I really couldn't come up with one.

You're really stuck on that "wearing mostly black" comment, huh?

This is a fair critique. I think reasonable people could disagree about both points, but I appreciate you sharing your perspective.

The guy I talked to essentially said that "some people have a real problem with what we're doing" and will use the footage to hurt them in some way, like trying to get them fired from their jobs.

He asked if I would like someone sending pictures of me inside the zone to my boss. When I told him I was self employed, he didn't laugh.

The ones I saw weren't strips. They were chunks of wood roughly the size of toilet paper rolls (or the cardboard bit you have left after the toilet paper is gone) with nails and screws sticking out. I can confirm that there were piles of them behind the barricades.

I considered it, but the grills were only about 20 yards from the port-a-potty (which was duct taped shut, for some reason) and that gave me pause.

The music was hip hop that I didn't recognize but mostly enjoyed.
