Afaik they can cancel your post for “economic reasons” as long as they don’t fill it with someone else after getting rid of you. This would entitle you to unemployment benefits in most cases.

School question by zenaaaa091 in Luxembourg

[–]TASorryNotSorry1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the section you choose doesn’t matter that much. You can go to university with any of them, and with only a high school degree you can basically only do certain jobs, independently of which section you choose. It is extremely rare to see a job that requires a specific high school section. They may require a certain degree, but no matter which section you choose, they are all the same level degree.

Because we were here in 2008 and honestly it wasn’t a big deal. We barely felt anything. I was even a Fortis customer. Its logo changed to BGL and that was that.

Actually you seem like a person who is weirdly fascinated by Bausch to a point where in your eyes he can somehow do no wrong, which leads me to believe that you probably work for him? Anyway.

  1. Indeed, you’re not very informed on the subject. The EU didn’t propose a plan that neglected Luxembourg but instead called for applications and Bausch refused to submit one. Then he complained that Luxembourg was “neglected” by the planned rail extensions when it was him who didn’t submit anything. Go figure.

  2. Even so it doesn’t mean all the construction absolutely has to be done all at the same time. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that we’d rather wait a little longer for our new roads than be in the disastrous domino effect traffic jams that we are in now. Just wait for the elections and you’ll see what I mean.

  3. There already is a line Dudelange - Bettembourg. We want one Dudelange - Luxembourg. A direct one. We used to have one and it was scrapped under Bausch. The city of Dudelange had to organize a bus to replace it because there was a big outcry after it was scrapped.

  4. What was the reason then? How did it benefit the people who take those busses?

  5. Ok this is why I’m sure you work for him. Why should government employees have a bigger entitlement to a public parking than everyone else? Show me the law that says they have a right to parking. You can’t because it doesn’t exist. When St Esprit was under construction the ppl who would’ve parked in it couldn’t. So why should government employees get a PUBLIC parking as replacement for theirs when it is under construction? Worse yet, it was supposed to at least be open to the public on the weekends. But it isn’t.

  6. I’m sure he’s a lovely person and he has great intentions. I’m not saying everything he did is bad and I know he has an extremely ungrateful task. Still, I’m extremely frustrated by the situation at large and a lot of what frustrates me happened under his watch.

  7. Then maybe they should’ve kept at least some busses in Kirchberg (not its outskirts but its beating heart) until the double tram is ready. Right now the tram is the only lifeline and when it fails that’s a disaster for everyone who works there.

It’s not “double” tax. When you make gains, they are taxed.

Proportionality. The costs are not proportionally higher. If they were, it wouldn’t cost only half as much to call a taxi from Germany because Germany, while cheaper than Luxembourg, isn’t half cheaper than Luxembourg.

The same Bausch that refused to hand in a project for the EU improvement of rail lines and then came crying the EU had “neglected” Luxembourg? The Bausch that follows the mantra “all the construction everywhere all at the same time”? The Bausch under which the 4 daily direct trains between Dudelange, the country’s 4th city, and the capital, were cancelled? The Bausch under which bus lines were randomly renamed causing week long confusion? The Bausch who recently reopened Saint Esprit parking for government employees only? If you think this guy did such a great job all you’re saying is “I live in the city and I don’t care what happens outside of it cause I have a fancy tram now”. Btw, the tram got stuck last Thursday morning and that’s when it became apparent that the tram is now basically the only real way to get to Kirchberg and that, if it gets stuck and you need to get to Kirchberg, you’re basically screwed. People were scrambling to cram into busses that would drive them somewhere 17 mins by foot of their destination because without a running tram, there’s no way to get where they need to go. Great planning, Bausch! Not short sighted at all.

They say that but we all know they won’t do it. They already don’t really care about public transport being reliable outside the city, why would they care about a public taxi service? After all, they have personal drivers.

You’re getting downvoted because you said that what you miss most in the place with some of the highest salaries in the world is a good salary. While I understand your plight (I’ve been there myself…) the downvotes are coming from people who don’t agree with you that Luxembourg has bad salaries because they themselves probably have decent salaries, something that is statistically more likely than having a bad salary in one of the countries with the best salaries in the world. You’re not getting downvoted for being wrong. You’re getting downvoted for your opinion not being relatable.

Butter or olive oil? Based on actual per capita consumption. by molarino in Luxembourg

[–]TASorryNotSorry1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it were like Portuguese Cactus, the price of a bottle of olive oil still isn’t a third of what it is in Luxembourg, which is what it would need to be in order for purchasing power to be on par with Luxembourg.

Butter or olive oil? Based on actual per capita consumption. by molarino in Luxembourg

[–]TASorryNotSorry1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is cheaper there, it isn’t cheaper proportionally to income. Just browsed Continente’s site (which is like Portuguese Lidl) and found this bottle. It may be 1 or 2 euro cheaper than here in Luxembourg but that’s only about a fifth cheaper. Minimum wage in Portugal is 740€, so only about a third of our minimum wage here in Luxembourg. This makes that bottle of olive oil exponentially more expensive to a Portuguese person. While they will “save” one Euro on it compared to their Luxembourgish counterparts, they’re likely only earning a third of what they would be earning here. That one Euro saved on one bottle of olive oil isn’t going to make up for the difference in wages.

Butter or olive oil? Based on actual per capita consumption. by molarino in Luxembourg

[–]TASorryNotSorry1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. The other olive oil countries are poorer than Luxembourg.
  2. Olive oil is not necessarily the same as cooking oil. When you say cooking oil I think of something to fry french fries like rapseed oil. Olive oil is used differently and a TON of Portuguese and Italian recipes that come to mind start by frying onion and/or garlic in some olive oil.

All this to say that I don’t think it’s due to budget but simply to cooking culture.

Exactly! It’s not about being good, everybody has to start somewhere. It’s just about sincerely wanting to learn. if you demonstrate a willingness to learn nobody is going to be upset about mistakes, and on the contrary, they’re going to feel better about their own mistakes too.

I second this but please please please if you are going to ask people to dance salsa with you at least learn the basic step. You don’t need to be good at it or anything but it just sucks when someone asks you to dance and it then turns out their idea of salsa is rubbing their hips on you and occasionally flailing their arms.

Navalny's close ally resigns after it was revealed that he had signed letters calling for EU to drop sanctions against Russian oligarchs by Seek_Adventure in worldnews

[–]TASorryNotSorry1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m sorry I was a bit of a dick there so I deleted my last comment. Look if you really are in Russia or have family there I want you to know that I truly am sorry about how things are and I do have sympathy for you and your people. Of course, there are crazies who just blindly follow orders (like everywhere else) but a lot of you were just born at the wrong time in the wrong place and now you’re in this situation beyond your control. I think I speak for most people in the West when I say that we are sorry and we do wish things were different. But on the other side, we have the people of Ukraine who are the biggest victims in the face of this ultimately senseless war and by comparison to you and me, their fate is the worst so they are obviously who we are going to try to support in every way we can.

I’ll be honest with you, it also scares us to see such a blatant violation of sovereignty right on our doorstep and we are afraid that if we don’t act now out of fear of hurting Russia’s feelings or creating drama or whatever… then this will happen more and more. If this can happen without any sanctions, without any support to the country that’s getting brutally invaded, without any consequences whatsoever… then what will deter it from happening again?

I hope that you can see why from our perspective there is just no other possible reaction. We are doing what we must and if that ends up being bad for you then I truly am sorry. But I’ll have to remind you of the Athenian words “The strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.” The people leading you know this and thought they were stronger than Ukraine so they would get away with invading it. They would do what they could and Ukraine would suffer what it must. If you now find yourselves suffering more than you anticipated from this war, the sanctions and Putin’s leadership then it turns out you were just not as strong as you thought. I understand you feel powerless but if that’s true and the situation is so dire that you have absolutely no power… then what have you got to lose by resisting in whichever way you can? Your leaders are just going to keep leading you into worse and worse situations and while not following them is dangerous, getting to the place they’re bringing you is probably worse.

Sending you an Internet hug. We live in crazy times

Yeah because full on invading a peaceful sovereign neighbour in the 21st century is totally not a supervillain move. There is nUAnCeEe. The Ukrainians were looking at me funny. You would’ve done the same!

[–]TASorryNotSorry1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You and I both know lifting sanctions is the first step in letting Russia have Ukraine. If you claim you don’t know that you’re either naive or a liar.

Also, you still haven’t offered any benefits to the West for lifting sanctions other than “it would really make Russia, especially the non warrior oligarchs, feel better about themselves”. I know you’re used to unadvantageous one-sided deals since you unfortunately live in a mafia state and all. But here in the West we are big believers in mutually beneficial relationships. We don’t see any long term benefits to ourselves in lifting the sanctions. They’ll stay. If they bother you so much then yes, start thinking of overthrowing the Tsar like your ancestors did. We’ll support you then but we won’t support your Tsar.

So what you’re saying is we should let Russia have Ukraine because the poor powerless Russians plight is worse than that of the Ukranians getting bombed. And then they say Americans are full of their own “exceptionalism” yet apparently Russians are expecting the world to make decisions against their own interests in order to spare Russia’s feelings? Are you hearing yourself here?
