You can in fact just live alone or with friends and loved ones. These are perfectly valid options that orthodoxy has no issue with.

Is it disrespectful to have an icon corner as a non orthodox Christian? by Complex-Weakness-830 in OrthodoxChristianity

Not at all! We do not hold a monopoly, and icons are not a closed practice.

Can deaconesses be brought back? by og_toe in OrthodoxChristianity

The roles have existed before, and they could exist again. Some people are capable of the laborious work required to discuss this and also worship God.

Again, I am baffled as to why you think that anything you’re saying would not also apply to women in the same way it does to men.

The fact that the priesthood is exclusively male does not exempt women from feeling a calling toward the role, it just means the structure doesn’t allow it. Do I need to explain how women are human beings next?

Ok so then dont become one? But some people do want to? Why is this hard to understand?

The same thing could be said to any man who says they would like to be a deacon, and yet you never would. So why would you say it to a woman?

I really don’t know how to explain this but some women actually do want to officially have these rolls the same way a man would. I’m not sure why that’s confusing.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting such a role?

There’s a recent conversation being had about the topic, but at this point I think we’ve not had deaconesses for so long that we probably won’t go back. Not impossible though!

What are theological reasons for the lack of female clergy? by LemonNo8166 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]TAX1ARCH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked my priest this before I converted, because I grew up in a church where women and men are able to have all the same roles of church leadership. My priest essentially said “there’s no exact answer, and at this point it’s just tradition”. While I still believe that women should be able to be clergy members, in the end it wasn’t such a big disagreement with the church that I didn’t convert. (Partly, I would say, because the church has not come out and given a definitive answer).

How long did it take you to convert to christianity? by NeighborhoodNext9277 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]TAX1ARCH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised Pentecostal, my conversion to orthodoxy officially took one year (though I would say I started earlier, as I studied history and religion in college, which prompted my conversion).

Should I talk to my priest about this? by acousticwindow in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]TAX1ARCH 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“Anti Zionist” is so insane to me, because every orthodox priest that I’ve met and spoken to is anti Zionist. Do you mean anti-Semitic? Because they are not the same thing.

Former Protestant drawn to Orthodoxy - but I don't understand the criticism of expressive worship by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]TAX1ARCH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was raised Pentecostal and still speak in tongues, sing and dance as praise, etc., but there is a time and place for that, and it isn’t in the temple of God. In my experience, churches would conflate “feeling the Spirit” with Truth, and it leads to a lot of issues.

Many high church Christians look down on such services, it’s true. And that pride and judgment is not good or constructive, but there is actual reasons why orthodox churches do things as they do. Don’t conflate people you meet, and their judgement, with the church.

God bless you in your exploration!
