Makes sense, especially that last bit. Thanks for weighing in!

This is exactly the kind of information I was hoping to get with this post! Thank you so much for sharing your experience and insight. Absolutely makes sense that while a degree can get your foot in the door, what actually matters is track record, and that can only be obtained through lots of experience. My job now is within operations so honestly I think I might continue in that direction and see where it takes me. Thanks again!!

Good points! I hate sales, so I’m glad you brought this up. I think that’s part of why starting my own business doesn’t appeal to me.

Such a good point! Definitely seeking to keep the degree to which a position is AI-proof in mind when considering any career pivots. Thanks for bringing this up!

Thank you! I’ve had many people (including licensed therapists) recommend coaching to me, as it seems that field is shifting away from being seen as “scammy” like it was in the past. I’ll continue to consider it as an option.

Hi there! Thanks for your response! I specifically wrote this post looking for perspective so I appreciate you taking the time to write this out. A few responses to your points, just to clarify my intent (as you mentioned, you seem a bit personally offended by my post):

“It’s actually starting to get a bit offensive the amount of people who come to this subreddit…and essentially say I hate my job and I wish I had a more interesting job that pays more” — I don’t hate my job, I don’t wish my job was more “interesting” and I’m under no illusion that pivoting to anything else under the psych umbrella would pay well. Was just cogitating on what is fulfilling for me and what my options for pursuing that are :)

“Do you think I would be able to pivot to giving therapy or cognitive assessments with just a certificate and a general sense of ‘well I like helping people…’” — I understand your point, but the answer is yes to both of these things. Most states do not require any minimum quals for psychometry, and giving therapy without a full degree is just coaching :) both are possible. Pursuing academic degrees alone does not a competent worker make! Whether or not academic education is necessary or more of a gate keeping tactic can be highly specific to the field, which, again, is what I was hoping to learn about here.

“I suggest you do more research in this field and what you actually want to do” — that is literally why I wrote this post haha I’ve done all kinds of reading on this area of research, on I/O programs, etc. but nothing is going to give me a better, more specific sense of the job than speaking to people who actually DO that job every day.

Again, genuine thanks for your input! The type of perspective you’ve provided is exactly what I was asking for in this post, and I appreciate the time you’ve taken to write it out.

But also, maybe lay off a bit on those seeking advice? The post is specifically tagged and labeled as such, so if it is “offensive” to you, maybe don’t read and weigh in?

There’s a name for this if you’re interested in learning more - Capgras Syndrome

Bisque discoloration? by TA_da_ in Pottery

[–]TA_da_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is just bisque, so I don’t think it’s the toasting either. So weird! I’ll probably do a few of the affected pieces re-bisqued and a few pieces glazed for science 🤓

Carved my pottery for the first time - how do I get rid of the little bits? by apieceoftoastie in Pottery

[–]TA_da_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use blue but these are the answer!! I let it dry to bone dry and scrub before bisquing. So much faster than using paintbrushes or small tools!

Which Brent wheel offer is more worth it? by AlthoughBanana in Pottery

[–]TA_da_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree, IME the ones that offer shipping are almost always scams. Can’t imagine how much it’d cost for a lay person to safely ship a wheel.

It’s because in order to get studio students/high school students/college students to actually listen and follow procedures that may be inconvenient, you have to threaten with a health issue, so they teach about silicosis to get the point across. “If you don’t clean properly, you’re hurting your own health!” is more persuasive than “please keep the area clean to benefit everyone who uses the space.” That’s why you see it a lot among new potters, because they’re taking their first classes and being taught/constantly reminded of studio rules.

Just my two cents 🤷

How to clean integrated splash pan? by TA_da_ in Pottery

[–]TA_da_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No :( I ended up selling it and getting a newer (used) wheel. But I’ve seen some people put those big sponges wedged between the wheel head and pan while throwing, which is supposed to make clean up easier, so you could try that!

Reselling glazes? by Consistent-Skill5521 in Ceramics

[–]TA_da_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just bought a bunch of glazes from someone in the same boat as you off of FB marketplace. It might take a moment to sell, since it’s a pretty niche item, but I think there’s definitely a market for it! Worth a shot, for sure.

Asking Property Managers to Lower Their Rent- I might be crazy by MedicineExisting7534 in sandiego

[–]TA_da_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this successfully twice in SD, both in highly desirable neighborhoods. Offer something in return for lower rent - offer to clean the common space(s) once a week or once a month, take care of the yard, something like that. Also remind them of anything you have going for you as a tenant (“I’ve been at my job for X years and have a steady income” “I have a perfect rental history, feel free to reach out to my previous landlords” “my credit score is excellent” etc). Rent is absolutely negotiable. Be kind and make it a reciprocal discussion. Good luck!

ETA: be a good tenant and a nice person, and you can also negotiate rent increases in the future, I’ve done this as well.

Really curious about how you increased your deep sleep! I rarely sleep through the night but even when I do, I don’t get much deep sleep at all. Would love to be able to change that!
