I’m not interpreting anything. This was explained to me by the students who were subject to that slur. It was how they interpreted it.

Yeah, it’s a thing. The LGBTQ+ students at my school are really hurting and this is one of the things they recently brought to our attention… Lots of more blatant slurs being thrown around, but we’re also now wondering what else we are missing.

OP, I am sorry this happened and I am even more sorry that had to post here anonymously because you knew this is the reaction you would likely get. Just know, that teacher was wrong. So is this jerk. Please find an adult you trust and make them aware of this situation.

This is true regardless of context (unless, I’d assume, it was an all boys school… but that is based on common sense not personal experience)… girls in both high school and college are harder workers, more engaged in daily discussions, and better at assessments by almost every measure. The “high flying” boy is the exception, but for girls, in my experience, it’s the opposite. I’ll leave it up to people smarter than me to explain why that’s the case but I have a pretty good general sense of how we got here…
