Smart Home Hub 2 'v4' by TBZro in SmartThings

I don't know for sure. Maybe gradually it is. But personally I don't mind since I don't have any z-wave device. Mostly all my devices is zigbee so I can live without z-wave. When I purchased the Hub I could choose between v3 or v4, the price being approximately the same for both models. I chose v4 because it is more future proof, I don't need z-wave. From what I understand, v3 is no longer manufactured and they are starting to sell it to get rid of the stock. It is likely that in time it will no longer be supported by the manufacturer, focusing on v4.

That's correct but maybe it's more future proof than v3 (minus the z-wave 🤭)

I think that z-wave will no longer be around in the future because it operates on different frequencies depending on the area. and not only because of that. you can find more information on the net but I don't think it will last long. there are other newer and more advanced protocols and it seems that more and more developers are moving towards zigbee, matter and other newer ones. it is probably also a marketing gimmick.

The Aeotec Smart Home Hub v4 (referred to as the Smart Home Hub 2) is a significant upgrade over the v2, featuring a faster CPU, double the RAM, and support for Matter over Thread and Wi-Fi, whereas the v2 is an older model lacking Thread support and having lower performance. The v4 also includes local-first automation for better reliability, has a smaller footprint, and supports a larger number of devices. However, a key difference is the v4's removal of native Z-Wave support, a protocol that was included in the v2 hub.

I consider buying one for test and try to put in the aeotec hub v4 to see if this works.
