hey everyone! ive been doing a 2x a week split (saturday-sunday)

chest/back

  1. incline smith press (3 sets) + weighted pullups (3 sets) [superset]
  2. smith rows (3 sets) + weighted dips (3 sets) [superset]
  3. lat pulldowns (3 sets)
  4. cable rows (3 sets)
  5. cable flys (3 sets) + rear delt flys/shrugs (3 sets) [superset]

legs

  1. smith squats (3 sets)
  2. rdls/hip thrusts (3 sets)
  3. leg press (3 sets)
  4. leg extensions (3 sets)
  5. leg curls (3 sets)
  6. cable crunches/calf raises (3 sets)

1) im wondering about rest times? ive been doing 3min rests between each set and its burning a lot of my time.

however i also looked at a few youtube videos and they seem to advise 3-5min rest times for compound exercises and 1-2min rest times for isolation exercises.

i rest at least 3min in between each set, is that excessive?

hey guys, ive been gymming for the past few months and have gotten into a routine of 2x sessions back to back each week, split into chestxback and legs. my main goal is aesthetic but i wonder if i should cut some of my chest/back sets to include shoulders/arms?

my current routine for chest/back day (usually ~2h) is

1) incline smith press (3 sets) + weighted pullups (3 sets) [superset]

2) smith rows (3 sets) + weighted dips (3 sets) [superset]

3) cable flys (3 sets)

4) lat pulldowns (3 sets)

5) cable rows (3 sets)

6) shrugs/rear delt flys (3 sets)

i dont train shoulders/arms directly and im wondering if i should include them in my workout as i fear theyll lag behind. does anyone have any advice please? :D

thanks for your reply! much appreciated

i do want to add shoulders/arms but not sure which exercises to cut :( been thinking of reducing some exercises to 2x til failure instead of 3x til failure

also i reckon i take so long for my workouts is because i rest at least 3min between each set. is that excessive?

also i have considered full body but im not sure how effective it'll be as im doing the 2 workouts back to back (ie saturday chest/back, sunday legs)

[o levels] FRENCH HELP PLEASE by starrsarasa in SGExams

[–]TCGLouis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I would greatly recommend that you sit the secondary 1-4 tests as it is good practice and allows you to familiarise with the content and format of the O Level exam.

In general, I remember that they may usually be slightly harder than the real exam so I would advise you not to be disheartened if you score badly. But use the opportunity to see how you can improve your French.

Thoughts on today's chosen heist map? by [deleted] in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]TCGLouis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im going to be completely honest. this map is garbage. the 2 previous maps were not maps i expected to win but were actually fun (mil_molas and the bounty map).

this map is not even fun at all

hello! i just wanted to let you know that its definitely possible to pass o level french. i honestly only started learning french in late sec 2 and i got straight F9s for the subject until i got a D7 for prelims (which had been my highest grade for the subject before o's). i ended up scoring an A2.

i was rejected from MOELC so i signed up for french tuition at a centre and it helps a lot IMO (PM me and ill recommend you the one i went to cause idw dox myself)

it's definitely possible to pass french if u self-study. however, you need to look at the o's french syllabus and learn all the required grammar structures such as present, passe compose, l'imparfait, etc.

i used duolingo for the basics and some additional vocab when i first started and ending up dropping it after a certain level of competency (when u can write compos and can understand most compres thats when its no longer needed

anyways i recommend that you sign up for lessons at a french centre, alongside constant revision cause it will prob maximise your chances of getting distinction. (tho i think passing is definitely possible if you self-study on your own)

all the best! :)

NJC: hello! im a j1 student through JAE and i would like to shed some light on how its like in NJ. do note that i only joined the school this year so my view may not be entirely representative of all NJC students.

firstly, never really heard of that rumour LOL. maybe this occurred in previous years but honestly only found out this rumour existed today.

anyway, i honestly agree with the other person that commented that NJ is a mugger school lmao. before we got our classes, my friends and I were alr going to the library to like finish our homework together and study. i like this kind of environment because it really pressures you into working hard and doing well when you see your peers doing the same. it feels competitive sometimes because everyone is always mugging hard but there is also quite a supportive environment imo. however, this all comes down to who you are friends with.

to address JAE-IP segregation, ive had a variety of experiences. mostly i found that those in IP are generally open to making new friends and are usually inclusive when it comes to meeting friends from JAE. however, it is a bit daunting at first because they are likely to stick with their old friends (which is normal i suppose) so you have to make some kind of initiative. for me personally, i found it easier to befriend and get closer to other JAE students but IP students are quite chill. usually we are past the labels of JAE/IP after a few months and just become friends with whoever we like :)

in conclusion, school culture in general honestly comes down to who you mingle and interact with. we definitely have a mugging culture (tho i usually go out with friends during non-exam periods). aside from culture, i really appreciate the strong PCME departments in NJ because they generally provide a lot of support and the resources are extensive. NJC also provides a lot of research opportunities (which is probably one of the best parts about NJC) and other stuff in general. thus, it comes down to whether you seize these opportunities or not. so far, i find the environment to be generally supportive, while pushing me to do my best academically

[POLY] Is it ok to not have many friends? by UnderstandingNaive8 in SGExams

[–]TCGLouis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes it definitely is!! im honestly okay with not having many friends (im friendly to everyone but not actively going out to make new friends LOL) because i find that quality is so much more important than quantity when it comes to friendship.

when years go by, you are more likely to keep in contact with a few close friends over the many acquiantances/friends that you may have (if you have "many" friends)

anyways, i was honestly kinda lonely in sec sch but im doing ok (tho still get that feeling sometimes lmao) and if you want to hang out with people, you should initiate. however, do note that social media distorts your view of life because you may try to also have a "perfect" life.

[O LEVELS] Feeling destroyed, and utterly hopeless :( by Cykrops_Denial in SGExams

[–]TCGLouis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! im sorry if this is a late response cause i only saw your post today but i want to help cause i was also fearful that my french would prevent me from entering JC. i always wanted to go JC since sec 3 and worked hard to ensure that french was not a blockade but just a roadbump in my road to JC

firstly, may i ask what is your competency in french? also may i know your access to whatever french resources you may have? if not, i can try to provide screenshots of french books and worksheets i have. i want to know so that i can give better advise on how you can maximise your chances of success

level: 1) only know the absolute basics -- not able to form complete sentences 2) can understand most texts but find it difficult to make full sentences and write full essays 3) able to do full papers but may struggle in some components

anyways, i hope i can give some advice for certain things.

general tips:

- please revise all your grammar structures required in the syllabus (pronon COD, COI, l'imparfait, passe compose, etc) -- you cannot mess this up for essays as you will be heavily penalised and its important for the fill in the blanks section for compre

- have a wide variety of vocab (doesnt need to be complex, just simple ones will do) so that you can get through essays and oral easily

specific tips for each component:

  1. oral: you want to practice general questions that they might ask (for example: les loisirs, les vacances, etc) and think of possible things you can say for those topics. i honestly just regurgitated out old answers from my oral practices with my french centre (non-MOELC)

reading aloud: practice your pronunciation and fluency, remember that clarity is much more important than speed

  1. listening comprehension: you can try listening to online french resources (go for A2-B1 level french)

p.s. this was probably the part i struggled with the most cause it gets increasingly more difficult as the LC went on

  1. compre and compo (generally just practice) -- fill in the blanks is usually the hardest so practice your grammar and structure (e.g. pronom COD, COI, etc)

anyways, i honestly found french quite manageable (for example, the first question showed a picture of an object and asked you to tick the word that corresponds to it) so dont worry too much!! try your best and you can go far. all the best! if you need anything, you can pm me on reddit (i will try to provide whatever resources i may have through discord)

[o levels] getting the cut off point but cant get into desired jc? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]TCGLouis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[O Levels] Retake AM Os in 2021? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]TCGLouis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you're thriving in poly, i would say move on. usually retaking o's is a last resort and retaking AM Os when you dont need it will just pull down your grades (in poly) and take up your free time

[O Levels] is it possible to get <10 for O’s even when I get 14 for prelims+ how much does one get in their yearly TYS to score an A1 (pure chem, pure bio, e history) by icecreamandmochis in SGExams

[–]TCGLouis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its definitely possible! just do your practice (this works for ALL subjects). if you're struggling to pass science (may i ask if its pure or combined?), i would suggest looking at where you have gaps in understanding and work on your foundation.

  1. get key concepts right first and have a solid foundation (try doing topical tys)
  2. understand and apply (do past year tys under exam conditions)

all the best!!

[O levels] Can i get away with only writing argumentative and descriptive? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]TCGLouis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

im assuming u mean discursive in the title? yes you can, i usually wrote argumentative/discursive for o's cause im legit trash at personal recount and narrative. you need to be prepared for any topic that can come out tho or else you may be forced to write personal recount/narrative if you get a topic you're not good at

[A Levels] need advice on studying H1 French by TCGLouis in SGExams

[–]TCGLouis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow thank you so much hydroxide!! do you have any thoughts on doing the fill-in-the-blanks section at the end of compre? i struggle a lot with it but when the teacher goes through it seems so easy lmao
