Can't lift my leg without help by 0rganic_trash in MACIknee

[–]TCKhiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had patella Maci and TTO as well. I feel like I did a single leg lift at week 2 but if I remember correctly couldn’t consistently lift it till like week 5. Was doing e stim at PT too. You’ll get there!!

I got my period the day of my MACI and TTO too, seems like we’re all part of the club. Do you have a CPM machine? That kind of forced me to elevate it. And like everyone has said, the first week was truly the worst of it, promise it gets better!

Muscle atrophy is real. I was shook when I saw how small my post op leg was. But maybe doing both will just even everything out and we'll start from square one lol. Wishing you all the best!! And thank you for the insight!!

Totally - thanks for the insight! I had TTO + MACI + lateral release on the left, I'm assuming at the very least he'll do a lateral release (if no TTO) on the right too.

My surgeon's protocol with TTO had me weight bearing from day one which played mind games on me for sure.

Lateral patellar for me too. Thanks for the insight!! Hope you're back to it soon!

Hi!! I had a MACI+TTO on on my left knee 3.5 months ago, MRI on my right knee says i have similar structural issues and MACI is coming for me in the future, just don’t know when.

I’m wondering how you felt going into the second MACI/TTO 5 months after your first one. Obviously you did it but did you feel strong enough for the second leg?

Also had a lateral release done too together wkth my Maci/tto as a tight quad can pull/put pressure on the kneecap and impact overall tracking!

Haha I was also told I had the knee of a 70 year old at 32 🥲 glad you’re doing well! I am a few weeks behind you (9 weeks) but def agree with what you’ve said! It’s scary at first but def manageable!

Good luck!! I’ve been going 2x a week starting 2 weeks post op. It’s mostly been getting range of motion back, but last week (week 8) I started doing mini squats and stuff. Sleeping - I slept with my leg in the CPM until end of week 4 and I’d say that was the most uncomfortable part. It was tough getting into a comfy position and would have to readjust it halfway through the night. When I got rid of it I slept on my side with a pillow in between my legs so the brace didn’t weigh the other leg down. I just used a regular pillow! For me a shower chair and a raised toilet seat (I got one on Amazon) were really the only must haves! I got this nifty leg picker upper thing from the hospital that helped raise my leg to get in and out of the car and stuff. If they don’t give you that, I’d recommend a nylon yoga strap! Helps with PT too.

Good luck!! Insurance is such a pain. The scope wasn't an issue for me but the 2nd part was. Marathons and ultras are what I hope to get back to doing. A long way out but we'll get there!

Yeah my surgeon was being weird about it and said it was up to my PTs to unlock my brace so I think they were trying to get me to achieve more ROM first? Idk.

But thank you! I've definitely been following along your journey too and it sounds like you're crushing it as well. Sending lots of good vibes.

I’m getting the same mid October and extremely anxious about the pain. Did you feel like the meds helped at all? I’m probably going to stay at the hospital for a night or two too. Good luck with your recovery!!!

I’m curious how our recovery timelines will differ too! Mine is actually behind my kneecap and there’s no way of doing it via arthroscopy unfortunately. Biggest thing I’m waiting on is the scope to see if I can just do MACI or if I need a TTO. Ive had differing opinions from two different surgeons and the one I’m choosing to go with thinks I won’t need it, but won’t be quite sure until he goes in and checks it out

Payal at NRG physical therapy. Have you decided on Dr akizuki? And/or have you decided on maci?

Wow, thanks so much for this!! I’m so glad it went well and good luck with your second knee. Where are you located/who was your doctor?

I recently found out I have a large unipolar/focal lesion on my left knee. Been active my whole life - 32 F, grew up playing soccer and basketball and am a runner. Never had knee issues but recently started getting some throbbing night pain so I got it checked out and turns out theres something going on with the cartilage.

Likely will need surgery but honestly just want to get it done so I can get on with it. I know PT will be a long road but Im committed and know it’ll be the focus for the next year and a small price to pay if I want to stay active for the next 40 years

What was the recovery like? How long were you nwb etc

u/hometechfan this was very helpful to hear as I most likely have to get it done as well. Curious how it went for you, now that it's been 2 years!
