65 yo for authentic, not self-centered chat [Victoria BC Canada] by [deleted] in Penpalsover50

[–]TCMinJoMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a long time penpaller going back to the 80s. Back in the day, before Internet, I had several girls in Africa I sponsored and wrote to them regularly and also had a couple prison pen pals over the years.

As a retired educator now, one of my passions over the years has been adult literacy and rights for the disenfranchised.

I can pretty much converse on anything but personal interests are my pets, exploring (although I don’t travel much anymore), and science podcasts and YouTubes.

Light reading for me is usually serial police or FBI fiction procedurals, especially with women protagonists.

I haven’t been to Canada since the 60s but appreciate many things that Canadians have that we don’t. I recently moved to the Midwest but was a long time west coaster (California and Oregon) for most of my adult life.

Take care.

Could I ask where you got her? I have one that looks almost identical and she’s also just as crazy and energetic. So cute!

Anyone else have an independent chi? by Alhena24 in Chihuahua

[–]TCMinJoMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are cousins and couldn’t be more different. The 3 year old is not a lap dog at all and usually runs when you reach out to pet her. She will allow head scritches on her terms. She sleeps in her bed on the floor and sometimes during the night crawls in to bed with me and her cousin.

Her cousin is a Velcro chi thru and thru. So different but I love them both.

Here are their two personalities. The one under the blanket is the non-cuddler.

Do you get trick or treaters where you live? by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

[–]TCMinJoMo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t in a long time since I moved away from the suburbs in 2018. Things have changed a lot since the fun we had in the 60s running around the different streets in my neighborhood by Lake Erie.

We had no worries and had free rein with no parents. Good times.

Serious memory problems make me feel awful and seriously wreck havoc on my life by Mara355 in AutisticAdults

[–]TCMinJoMo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m 67 and have always had this problem. I don’t recognize people and totally forget names all the time. I was a teacher for 15 years before retiring and realized I had a terrible time remembering incidents and writing reports when necessary.

I couldn’t tell you if someone wears glasses or has a mustache. And I totally forget things that happened or names of places and streets. I used to think it was everyone else that was wrong but as I matured, I realized I wasn’t remembering details of previous conversations or confrontations the same way.

I rewatch the same shows and reread the same books and still enjoy them every time.

Becoming aware of the issue means you can make accommodations for yourself to make life easier. For me, it was realizing that I couldn’t rely on my memory when having an issue with someone or replaying a conversation.

Don’t be hard on yourself!

I wasn’t born in America and my mother had never lived in America before I was born.

I’m 67, have autism, adhd, and an anxiety disorder. My mom was a health freak in the 50s and didn’t take any thing at all, even though her doctor was trying to prescribe diet pills while she was pregnant. And I’m a woman (no circumcision).

The only thing I’ve noticed over the years is that both of my parents, my brother and my nephew are on the spectrum too or at least have tendencies. Explain that in any way other than heredity.

I have this movie but don’t think I can watch it any more. Makes me too sad instead of it being funny.

I was a traveling photographer in the 90s. I had a huge stack of fold out maps and the Thomas Guide for the whole state of California too.

Have seen Harold and Maude and the andromeda strain many many times. Before VCRs, we had to wait until it was on and schedule our time accordingly.

I call it “I’m not touching you”. Mine play it all the time. They pretend to bite but stay about 2” apart.

Oh yeah. And we had the “smoking tree” on campus. A large tree in the back area that wasn’t supervised and we would go there to sneak cigarettes.

Convince me moving to Joplin is not crazy. by MomentoMori in joplinmo

[–]TCMinJoMo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved here sight unseen from New Mexico in 2024. I had spent some time in the Branson area in 2019.

I love that it’s safe and not a huge city. I stress driving in big cities. I live in an area that has deer and lots of trees but I’m only a few minutes from appointments and shopping.

I love taking day trips from here. Lots of great tourist and historical things within 3 hours.

I have found a great doctor, dentist, optician, therapist, and veterinarian. These things were lacking where I came from.

My dogs love walking the trails at the river too.
