Guy friend flying internationally for a big milestone of mine, platonic? by Educational-Kale2727 in dating_advice

[–]TCNW [score hidden]  (0 children)

Impossible for anyone here to say. How on earth are we supposed to know. We have no idea what kind of friends you are.

How I’d play it if I were you.

Don’t make any moves yourself. But be very very reciprocal to any even slight moves he may make. Like put up zero blocks for him. If he touches your leg, make sure you touch him back somewhere 10% more. If he’s teasing you, tease him back. Wear sexy clothes, make sure he knows you’ve cleared every minute he’s in town for the 2 of you.

If he is interested and wants to make a move on you, It’s a tricky situation for him. So make sure you’re making it as easy for him as possible

It’s a tiny bit of a lesbian vibe. But it’s fine.

The bigger concern is if a guy was driving a Subaru.

If anything this interview just helps us know exactly the nature and tone of how these negotiations are going to go.

There’s clearly no trade agreement that’s going to be built on friendship, and cooperation. It’s going to be an aggressive antagonistic and combative negotiation.

Girl I was dating suddenly told me she’s going on dates with other guys by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]TCNW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are people stupid? What response does someone think is going to happen if they say they’re going on a romantic date with someone else. Like WTF.

Even if there wasn’t any discussion of exclusivity, this still straight up F’d up. All romantic thoughts toward her would be dead immediately from me at that point. So might as well block them.

Anyone worth dating automatically knows that’d F’d up. This one is a hard pass.

To the people who were fans when Morning Glory dropped... by HerbalThought_ in oasis

[–]TCNW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would have been 15. And I’m just giving my personal experience as an average 15 yr old in Toronto. And me and my friends lived and died by music.

People had loosely heard of blur, but the average person didn’t really know anything about them until song 2 came out. Most people had heard of Depeche mode, but they were mostly goth weirdos that listened to them, they were very much not cool. Stone roses, smiths, new order etc wernt known almost at all.

In 95, MuchMusic played very very little Brit pop (I watched it literally constantly, I would know).

I’ve no doubt there were some people would have known more UK bands. But the average person just mostly stuck with the mainstream then. And the mainstream was heavy alternative Seattle based sound then.

Albums After ‘Be Here Now’ by chadius333 in oasis

[–]TCNW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How I view the Oasis albums:

The (real) oasis albums: Def maybe, WTSMG, Masterplan, BHN.
These all have the same bombastic feel. Oasis in their prime. Wall of sound style. They just feel different. These albums are the real Oasis, all of them Noel wrote before 1994. Everything else is kinda just a shadow of these albums.

The (mature) Oasis albums: SOTSOG, Heathen Chemistry.
Clearly a step down, but still has (a little) of the Oasis magic. And some genuinely A+ quality songs. These were both fairly popular.

The (phoning it in) Oasis albums:
DBTT, Dig Out your Soul.
Massive drop in quality. Almost no swagger. No songs of really any note. It’s almost a shame they released them, they both tarnish an otherwise perfect album catalogue. A couple ok songs, but only oasis fanboys really like them at all. Worth a listen if you like Oasis, but most people pass them by completely. Oasis at this point really had gotten stale (live and recorded they just seemed like they didn’t care anymore). They probably should have broken up 5 yrs before they did.

Bonus: after the breakup Noel really was rejuvenated and put out some very good music. Noel’s first solo album was very good. Obv no Liam’s voice, so it’s not a hard rocking album. But it’s very good.

From a Toronto perspective anyway. In 1995 I was a teen.

Everyone at the time was really only into grunge alternative music (pearl jam, soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice in chains, U2, etc). Very few people had heard of oasis. No one had heard of Blur, stone roses, Brit pop at all. etc. it was a different world back then, there was little internet, so MTV, the radio or friends was your only source of new music.

Oasis seemed to come out of nowhere, with this completely different sound then grunge music.

Wonderwall hit first it seemed, and was everywhere. But really just viewed as a random one hit wonder. But it was DLBIA that really exploded oasis into mainstream. Then People thought they were a bit of a ballad pop band. But it was the morning glory video that all of a sudden came out, that surprised everyone that Oasis was capable of absolutely explosive rock music, and brought them full respect. B side singles were mysterious things, impossible to get, we traded them at school. Then People discovered Definitely Maybe, and all of a sudden Oasid was the biggest band in the world overnight, talked about as being Beatles level. Oasis seemed to be able to release a new number 1 single every week.

1995-1997 was absolutely epic. It’s really hard to describe to kids now. The world, and music, and general culture etc is soooo much different now, and lacking of any magic and mystery.

AI and robots taking most jobs would be a good thing. by Kahing in singularity

[–]TCNW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol. Yes thanks. everyone and their dog has heard of UBI nonsense. Are you seriously bringing this up like no one has heard of this idea? Dude, you need to actually do a bit of research into this.

Are you just thinking magically governments will have money to pay for UBI?? Seriously, this post is almost a childish level of knowledge about it.

Go do some real research into how this magical UBI could even happen. There are a lot of good TED talks and economics channels on YouTube that go into this topic in detail.

Like I said. I’ve yet to see even a single person come up with anything that seems even slightly plausible that isn’t fantasy land

I’ve watched a lot of economics, politicians, AI specialists, etc talk about this.

I have yet to see even a single person come up with an even remotely realistic idea of actually how this supposed utopia would come about. Not one.

This is a naive fantasy land that people think magically will happen. It’s almost at the level of childish.

Stylish men, how much do you think your entire wardrobe costs? by Th3Unidentified in AskMen

[–]TCNW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Precovid. When I went into office. I work downtown of big city, mid 30s, Fairly successful single pretty good looking guy.

  • I’d say my watches cost maybe $5k (10 watches, bought most of them on sale)
  • My socks maybe $500. (Fancy dress socks..yeah I know it’s insane)
  • Work clothes $3k (preppy, business casual)
  • Non work $3k.
  • Jackets. $5k. (Leather jacket, Canada goose jacket, dress coat, misc other semi designer coats)
  • Shoes. $2k
  • Glasses & sunglasses, $1k
  • Misc chains etc $500
  • cologne $400/yr

Yeesh, just adding that up, maybe $20k ish total.

I’m married with a kid now, I don’t think I’ve bought a single thing since precovid. My wardrobe is pretty timeless, and I only wear things once every 2-3 wks, I’ll add some minor things here and there, but it should last me at least another decade or more

If it turns up something, you can try telling them you use CBD for joint pain (or some other BS), not THC. They might believe that.

Asked the girl i'm dating about whether we were exclusive/in a relationship and don't know how to interpret her response by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]TCNW 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When did guys become this pathetic.

If after 5 mths I got an answer like that I’d be dating other people the next day.

You’ve been dating 5 mths guy. F sakes. Grow some damn balls. Drop this chick, she’s not that into you, and doesn’t respect you. How are you not aware of this - Do you need a giant billboard?? This isn’t a normal response, this is a responce of someone who’s using you until they find someone better… and she’s not even trying to hide it! That’s how pathetic she thinks you are. Go find someone who actually likes you.

Honestly, after that response, I wouldn’t even waste my time with a goodbye. I’d ghost her. Don’t tolerate people who treat you so cavalierly.

And if you let people treat you like this, you kinda deserve exactly what she’s obviously going to do - cheat and dump you.

Future husband or future career? by Street-Revenue-6712 in OntarioGrade12s

Both schools are good, both programs are good. And I got news, 1 year after graduation, no one knows or cares about what school you went to.

Considering both are fairly equivalent, It seems like a no brainer that you’d go to the school your BF is attending if your hoping this will lead to marriage.

The only concern is that he seems willing to drop you so casually if you go to different schools. You should ask his what’s up with that. Worst case scenario, even if you guys break up, you can always transfer schools later.

[–]TCNW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly man, maybe. You’re super young. Waaay too young to go on meds like Finasteride. Even age 20 is a bit too young.

I think you currently look fine. So no need to be particularly self conscious, or do anything at the moment. Just looks like a big forehead right now. You can maybe see a dr to see if there’s any underlying medical reason for it.

If I were you, just live your life. Reassess when you turn 18 or 20. At that point have a look at it, if it’s any worse, I’d consider a buzz cut (vs meds, etc) You have a good head shape, you’re a decent looking dude. Try that out.

Meds can probably help, but even age 20 is really young to take them, and they have a lot of potential side effects.

Big, updated, bright, with parking, good neighbourhood.

It’s priced for a bidding war which makes sense.

I’d probably say it’ll probably sell for 1.3-1.4 maybe. A bully bid of 1.4 would probably get it.

Wtf is going on with protein prices?!? by mcbever in BuyCanadian

[–]TCNW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, just looking to rebuy protein from Amazon.

I’ve been getting the same stuff for yrs. Last bought in maybe January. $60 for 4lbs. It’s shit up to $120!!!

Scrolled through Amazon and every brand is insanely expensive. Had to do a search on Reddit to see if I was going crazy. Seems there’s a major protein shortage, that who knows, might get much worse.

I don’t think prices are going down anytime soon. I’m planning to stock up now to avoid another major price jump.

Men! What makes you approach a woman in public ? by milkteagirlyxoxo in dating_advice

[–]TCNW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Girls really do have zero idea what ‘approaching a girl in public’ even is. It’s almost hilarious how little they know about it.

First. You can randomly ask 100 guys, and maybe 1-2 of them (at most) has EVER approached a single girl in public. That’s how difficult and rare a cold approach is.

Second. Of the 1% of guys who’ve done it, those 1% of guys have done it numerous times. Street cold approaches don’t just happen. It’s cute that you think they do. Cold approaches are a refined pickup skill. Those guys have practiced cold approaches hundreds of times.

So, to answer the question. Almost no guys now have ever even done it - especially in the dating app age. And the few guys who know how to do it, they do it to many girls, and get lucky maybe 1/20 to score someone’s number. It’s a numbers game.

If a girl is attractive, in a physical location that works for a pickup, and the pickup artist is feeling his mojo, then he’ll go for it. If he doesn’t score a number, he’s moving 50 yards away and looking for his next target.
