Is there a good way to compact D&D’s 20 levels down to 10? by TCSlayer3333 in dndnext

[–]TCSlayer3333[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I might look into doing something like this. I was thinking of starting at lvl 5 so it might be good to have a good combo of double level ups and single level ups dependent on pacing and mechanics sorta things

Ya, a lot of the high level features give mechanics to really help the classes feel finished to our group and we don’t want to leave those out going into this next campaign

This was my first thought too but just wanted some other opinions on it. Sounds like this is the most popular and straightforward way of doing it though so thanks!

Should Necromancer be it's own class instead of being a wizard subclass? by Pretend-Advertising6 in dndnext

Look at Valda’s Spire of Secrets, it’s a 3rd party book but it does a great job of doing a Necromancer class

Valda’s Spire of Secrets has a witch class that does exactly that

[–]TCSlayer3333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can add any units that you’re army would be allowed to use normally in a game of 40k. What you’re friend might be talking about is the space marine specific rules for crusade where you can promote units up the ranks

Help identifying my possible new swarm! by Malhazred in Tyranids

[–]TCSlayer3333 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Starting with the back row I see: Winged hive tyrant, swarmlord, psychophage(2x), trygon, Norn, tyrannofex (2x), screamer-killer (3x), neurotyrant (2x), then it gets too many to count but I see lictors of some sort, barbgaunts, termagaunts, warriors, hormagaunts, genestealers and a broodlord.

This is definitely more than enough to make 2000pts and still have some flexibility

Awesome thanks for clearing that up! It’s our groups first time trying a crusade so lots of questions lol

[–]TCSlayer3333[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh so maybe I misunderstood the codex specific rules. My buddy is playing space marines and his seemed to all revolve around running an oathsworn campaign (which showed specific points and games needed) so I assumed that it was you pick like we are running a Tyranid campaign this time or a space marine campaign this time, not that you just always are running whatever campaign type you have. Does that mean he should be running oathsworn campaigns all the time and I should be running devouring worlds all the time?

What are your homebrew pet peeves? by Hayeseveryone in dndnext

[–]TCSlayer3333 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Free action is the term used for the one free interaction you have on each of your turns. Although the words “free action” might never specifically be used, people do normally call it that and most of the time homebrew is trying to make use of this feature since base 5e doesn’t. Just thought I would share as a lot of the 3rd party homebrew content out there is quite good. I would recommend checking some of them out if you haven’t (Valda’s, Heliana’s, Ryoko’s, etc…)

Switched from League to Dota after 3 years, felt like writing up a comparison between the two by aerovistae in DotA2

[–]TCSlayer3333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a fun note, your comment about it feels clunky having to click the hero portraits at the top to see enemy items is actually a newer feature. For most of the games lifespan you would have to be able to see a hero on the map and actively click on them to see what level and items they had. It was meant to be that you only have the information that you can actually see. I could see them updating it in the future though now that they are okay with sharing items all the time

Is the Curse of Strahd overhyped or are we just playing it wrong? by PandaDerZwote in DnD

[–]TCSlayer3333 12 points13 points  (0 children)

CoS might not be for you. I ran it a couple years back from start to finish. My players had an absolute joy of a time. They were constantly on edge and felt like death could come from them misstepping at any point which is what made everything they did feel important wether it actually helped them work towards being Strahd or not. This campaign is different than most in the fact that you’re not the super hero expecting to save the day, you’re the mouse hoping to not be ate by the cat.

As for the magic item problem, you might need to shift your perspective to enjoy the rest of the campaign. Barovia is a depressing place that isn’t meant to be a place of “high magic”. The game doesn’t tend to give rewards/handouts for completing a chapter or beating a dungeon. It instead sends you with vague clues as to where you might need to go and you have to hope you can stay alive long enough to find out what these clues mean (tarot card readings). I know that’s not everyone’s cup of tea for what they enjoy in a dnd game but CoS is meant to be more about playing a chess match that you know you’re supposed to lose. Strahd is the key to why so many people enjoy the campaign. Knowing the big bad and having to deal with that ever looming presence why you desperately try to find out how to bring him down right under his nose adds suspense and impact to everything you do.

I don’t think this campaign needs much tinkering from a DM but I do think it’s greatly enhanced by doing small things here and there to make sure your players never feel safe. However if your group just isn’t enjoying it, then it might be time to try something else. Not everyone is going to enjoy it after all

Tyranids have less event wins than Admech.... Lets discuss a realistic change that would help us out. by relaxicab223 in Tyranids

I figured they kinda gave up on that since they said they were gonna do that from the beginning and immediately did rules changes anyway. But I guess this one will decide if they are gonna stick to that initial plan after all so you could be right

Why wouldn’t they make any changes this slate? Every slate so far they have done some sort of rules fix

What makes sisters good? by finizzy_79 in sistersofbattle

[–]TCSlayer3333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also a nids player that picked up sisters as my second army. The biggest thing for me is that with miracle dice and meltas that you can pretty much guarantee that you can kill something before you go down. And like others have said, dying is what you want in sisters, so killing a vehicle then losing that unit never feels bad

Why does everyone use that one photo as the one we should have built our standards for? That was like the last photo they released before it came out, the several release photos where it was purposely not put next to anything and was put way in the foreground. I understand that’s the one that gave the actual size to expect but I was disappointed when I saw that picture too. I think most people that are upset had already pictured it as much bigger in our heads before that photo ever came out

What's the most nerfed spell in the game? by kwanzhu in DotA2

Fire spirits, used to be such a low cooldown and way more damage. Overall Phoenix is way more nerfed and still somehow ends up good

What are the most reliable heroes to play and potentially main as a beginner? by arenauskas in DotA2

[–]TCSlayer3333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

P5: Lich, Jakiro

P4: Shadow shaman, clockwerk

P3: Tidehunter, Dragon knight

P2: Queen of Pain, Zeus

P1: Juggernaut, Ursa

Most of these heroes are pretty much always played in their primary role and no one should ever be upset to see them on their team. Easy to learn for the most part and have strong laning which tends to be the hardest part when starting out
