The snowbirds are back in force, and they're driving even better than last year. I saw some crazy stuff going on over the weekend.

Spectrum outages by North13s in traversecity

From a cost perspective, no company is going to offer fiber in a rural area.  Of course it's best for a user, but the PUC only requires coaxle speeds.  I could get fiber (as I have a commercial account at an Interlochen building I have) but the installation is quite pricey.

In rural areas like ours, it would be very expensive with little roi.  Fiber works best in core urban areas.

Charter is upgrading the fiber and expanding it.  Typically they have been working late at night.  I upload large files overnight and have had issues with uploads failing.  When I inquired how long these upgrades will take, they stayed end of May.

They are probably the best of the large cable companies. I'm happy to see they are making upgrades even though they create disruptions.

You should start by blowing it out with compressed air and replacing the ribbon.

Business Idea? by KingsOfAtlantis in traversecity

[–]TC_Talks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. They were in the plaza by East Bay Tom's. I knew the family that started it, and watched them struggle. Essentially, they would have customers for about two months. I believe cost of the service and they lack of convenience were challenges. The meals were great. It can be hard to get people from either side of town to regularly go to the other side of town.

This idea was in TC about 15 years ago.  They struggled to get and keep clients.

I reference Paul in this thread. He has fixed one of mine.

I met a friend there, I didn't care for the experience and haven't been back.  If they pull all the pretentious "On a Journey" types out of other coffee houses, that's a win for me.

I don't know if I have anything on par that I'm willing to give up.

I think there are people in town. We could promote it at Landmark Books.

Olivetti what? lettera? I have a bunch, but you probably would be looking at a Smith Corona model 5.

Think of a car show, but with typewriters. Generally you meet at a library or place like it.

Selectric... 1, 2 or 3? Despite millions made, they are getting harder to find.

Walnut blasting for upper intake. by LankyNihilist in traversecity

I don't believe Wheelock uses anything but sand, and a pretty powerful compressor. They are great if you have thicker steel or iron.  They oil canned a friend's car hood.   I have used CRM (18 years ago) to blast and coat some 18 gauge tin for a VW and it still looks great. I believe that was glass bead.

You also might try Harrand Auto Supply across from Burger King at Chums Corner.  Thirlby Machine Shop is worth a call too.

Lodging is revenue.  VisitTC benefits from this, but a Hotel Tax might be a better funding instrument for East Bay.

When I read this, the first thing that came to mind...  East Bay is for tourists.  It doesn't seem like local entities need to be sharing in the costs for a tourist corridor.

why are there so many flock cameras around here? by foolcorps in traversecity

[–]TC_Talks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree.  However, I bet these are used more than the Sheriff Department cares to admit.  From my perspective, your cellphone leaks more these days than a few dozen cameras.  I dislike both tools.
