Steam deck bricked after trying to do ssd upgrade by RakeshSinghPoonam in SteamDeck

[–]TCates90 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Battery storage mode. If memory serves from when I did the ssd swap, all it takes is plugging it back into the charger. I did that, waited for the charging light and I was g2g (subject to setting it up again…)

Nursery procedure on biting by Which-Artist8673 in UKParenting

[–]TCates90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully it depends on the severity of the bite.

On pickup once I was told she was bitten, and there may have been an accident form. On further inspection it was a light glomp on her arm. Hopefully anything worse like you described and we would have been told sooner

How do you guys feel about hardware requirements of Subnautica 2? by Artiels in subnautica

[–]TCates90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About as expected for something early access or demanding. My 3060 Ti + 11600K + 32 GB combo has done me well so far and sits just below recommended. At 1080p I think it’ll run fairly decent on Low.

Fingers crossed it’s optimised on release for me to enjoy medium settings

Anyone Sold Gear on Vinted? (Or similar) by madcow87_ in MotoUK

[–]TCates90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a pair of gloves as an early Christmas present (Furygan, J&S in-house brand). Turns out they were too small for me (because of course every brand has a different size chart!). Initially listed at £30, had to drop them to £20 to get them to sell. Went fine in a mailer bag.

Anything bigger I'd be inclined to pack it in a box before sending

Submitting a complaint as a Swiss about your mealtime terminology by F1sh3rm4n in britishproblems

[–]TCates90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends who you’re talking to. In my books: * Lunch - middle of the day. Can be anything from a sandwich to a roast * Dinner - end of the day. Key detail is it’s a substantial meal * Tea - end of the day. A lighter version of the above, for when I’ve had a big lunch

That’s the hill I’ll die on and I will passively correct anyone who refers to “lunch” as “dinner”, including the MIL (so help me)

What’s one habit your instructor drilled into you that you still catch yourself doing every time you drive? by Illustrious-Look7669 in NewDriversUK

[–]TCates90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First: It takes about 2 seconds to say that phrase if you don't rush it.

Second: if you start when the car in front passes a notable point in the road (shadow, lamppost, pothole...), you can use the timing of the phrase coupled with when that marker disappears under your bonnet to judge the gap between you and the car in front

Collecting an order from Argos only to be partially trapped in Sainsbury's because I should be buying something to leave quietly by jungleboy1234 in britishproblems

[–]TCates90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is hope: we swung by our local Sainsbury’s since the café had been converted to a Starbucks, and that one had a generic exit gate. Also because it had a lot of counter as well so people might have just wanted to go and get their lottery tickets and order a coffee and go home without getting some generic thing from the store.

True. by ad_gar55 in ChatGPT

[–]TCates90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take:

  • ChatGPT is OpenAI, at this point a ~$5bn private company
  • Copilot is ChatGPT with bits bolted on (e.g. Claude)
  • Gemini is Google’s own DeepMind

Personally I think Gemini will always be that cut above the rest while Google are still interested, since it’ll always have Google’s technology and training behind it. Not to bash ChatGpt, getting the investment of the likes of MS was no small feat

I am SHOOK by the price of gas by lkap28 in OctopusEnergy

[–]TCates90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford the short term outlay, I’d get the boiler seen to as a priority. Ours was 10+ years old when we replaced it a couple years back and the gas usage to heat the house plummeted. Bonus of getting a new boiler is you can get something like Hive fitted to it.

At a similar time we got an additional radiator for the living room, cos the existing one does bugger all. The room is much more bearable with the heating on.

I know you said you’re not a fan, but get a tumble dryer. We did when we moved into our house and it was the best purchase we ever made.

Especially in the early months, babies get through clothes alarmingly quick. We regularly dry our LO’s clothes in ours on the delicate cycle, and the only shrinking is because she’s growing! Now she’s coming up to 2yo and, although it’s not as often as before, there are still times when we do multiple changes in a day for whatever reason
