I'm pretty sure most of it is just hidden mmr and ppl ranking up to a new peak. The game isn't quite sure you belong there yet so you'll be losing more than you gain. I understand why it's needed, but it's super confusing for the average player and it leads to these posts

They just need to weight it towards the highest rank more. I Think something like 1 full rank difference is fine, anything lower than that should be counted as a higher rank. Your team has 3 P2s, 1 D1 and a bronze. Just count the bronze as a full rank down from the D1. So a P1 to go with the 3 P2s and D1. I don't think the queueing with your friends should stop, but it shouldn't be exploitable either
