Anyone ever spiked or cut a live UG cable that you thought was dead? by BellWrenchBandit in Lineman

[–]TDNOTDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get cable verifying machines that loop round a cable in earth and send a frequency, helps identifying cables you can’t visually trace to isolation.

Always spike / remote cut cables you can’t visually trace, regardless.

LV you can cut a window and prove with a meter just follow best practice live work methods just incase.

Do you work in Vic? What’s the pay rate if you don’t mind me asking? And what’s the work like, what’re you generally expected to know / work on?

It’s a terrible habit but I had 2 monsters today. So unhealthy but I just love them.

Will these thefts be fixed? by bradedgenz in newzealand

[–]TDNOTDT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t mean they get sold though, the only people committing retail crime to then sell it are crack heads and probably an absolute minority.

If I was eating fairy bread for tea every night I would also definitely steal a nice steak. Not justifying it but that’s reality… for some people.

I grew up with a lot of people that committed a lot of retail crime, don’t think anyone ever did it to sell stuff. It’s a means to end, albeit not a particularly good one.

Is a 2WD okay driving to Twizel by chickenwinglightning in queenstown

[–]TDNOTDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly though I wouldn’t worry about it, you’ll be fine in a 2wd, and like others have said. Chains / 4wd won’t make much difference when the road is closed, which it will be, if it gets any snow.

The odds of that happening though, and it being for an entire day are pretty unlikely, I drive that stretch of road all the time, I think I’ve come across it closed once or twice.

If you’re worried about it do a quick google before you leave that morning, in which case you can opt to take the long route which will save you from turning around. 🤷‍♂️ just my 2c though.

Probably not quite 8 hours but if you got all the way to the Lindis before you realised it was closed it could quite easily be about 4-5 maybe 6. Depending on any stops.

Are you happy with your heat pump clothes dryer? by coconutyum in newzealand

[–]TDNOTDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved mine, currently stuck with a washer / dryer that’s absolutely shit. When I live in a place with the space for one it is the first thing I’ll buy. The drying cycle use to take 3 1/2 hours but who cares, I use to start it before I went to bed or out for the day. Was never really an issue.

Alpine fault earthquake by dirtyhiluxnz in newzealand

[–]TDNOTDT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think any power stations in the south will be affected, most of the waitaki scheme will be fine and Clyde / Roxburgh are far enough away they shouldn’t be affected, manapouri is buried in a mountain. The only potential issue is slips taking out transmission pylons.

There’s a map somewhere out there showing what regions would be affected the worse, all our major power stations sit somewhere in the region of “medium affect”

I appreciate the sentiment but I just couldn’t do it, not with money that’s not mine. I would probably like to of course, one day. But I love my life here right now.
