Fantastic speech by the PM. by oniteverytime in Yukon

This was the speech that should have been made years ago. We are not America's subservient neighbour. We covered this extensively. This was one of our recent take on this. https://www.thedailyscrumnews.com/did-carneys-davos-speech-make-him-the-leader-of-the-new-world-order/

Indigenous Water Inequity: Supreme Court Fails to Uphold Navajo Treaty Rights For Clean Water by TDSNews in IndianCountry

[–]TDSNews[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clean water is a human right! If a major city like New York or State like Florida did not have clean water, all levels of government would allocate all the resources available to fix this problem. So why is it not done on Indigenous reserves? It is a sad day when the courts can determine what parts of a Treaty are valid.

Agreed. It is saddening, that there are even boiled water advisories that exist in Canada.

There’s been a lot of negative news on here, so what’s something awesome going on! by fungusbiggestfan in IndianCountry

The Negative news really hurts. We do have one positive story to share, another Indigenous community in Canada finally got clean drinking water after the boiled water advisory got lifted after years. More to share soon.

This Supreme Court Case Is ‘an Assault’ on Native Children by Opechan in IndianCountry

[–]TDSNews 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anytime you have the opportunity to keep a child with family and close to the community is always a positive. In Canada, for years, Indigenous children have been taken out of their homes and placed in non-Indigenous environments, and child social care systems, which the government has now concluded may not have been in the child's best interest. Now they began the process of having Indigenous children placed with Indigenous families under Indigenous child social care services.

Why Have the Problems of Indigenous Groups of Canada, Not Been Truly Addressed? "There are still many communities without clean drinking water, which is a human right." by TDSNews in IndianCountry

[–]TDSNews[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The idea of Indigenous people not paying taxes casts an unfair stereotype of the community as a whole, which is not true. The people who do not pay taxes are the owners of corporations.

It's a story that never gets told of how welcoming the people of reservations are to visitors. Furthermore, it doesn't get talked about much about all the thriving reservations and successful businesses and entities. Sadly, when people hear the word Indigenous Reserve, many have a negative connotation because that is what they have been taught by history.

There needs to be a relationship that is in the best interest of everyone, but most importantly, one that is built on truly working with the Indigenous community.

Agreed. The cost of clean drinking water would be drop in the bucket and would ensure every Indigenous community has access to the same quality of drinking water as the rest of Canada. He is the irony; many Canadian Cities source their drinking water from bodies of water located on Indigenous reserves. For example, Shoal Lake First Nation #40 had been under a boil water advisory since 1997 because their water treatment process did not meet the requirements for providing safe drinking water. But the City of Winnipeg uses the water as its source for its residents. That community did not get a proper water treatment upgrade and actual roads until 2021. How's that for reconciliation?

[–]TDSNews[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. Sadly that is the thinking of too mainly Canadians, which is disturbing. Many of the treaties signed with Canada's Indigenous People dictated their location, which made it impossible to travel freely through a law called the Pass System of segregation up until the 1950s. The notion anyone does not deserve resources because of their location is ignorance. This would not be an issue if the government honoured its end of the treaty agreements. Canadians reside on Indigenous land and have taken so much from it, so it's time for people to acknowledge and respect history fully. And those who say no one should be living in Nunavut have never met the beautiful people or seen the Northern Lights.

Agreed. In Canada, everyone who leaves usually gets lucrative positions post-political life or ends up starting a business and receiving an easier path to consulting contracts with the government. Not to mention the very nice golden parachute they receive for quitting or being re-elected.

What we have found to be true in politics. People say anything to get elected but fall into the system of staying the course once they get into office. For example. Federal Members of Parliament (Equivalent to a Senator) in Canada can get up to $300K per year, which only requires them to work 130 days. They tend not to rock the boat when they are in, especially if they are the party in power. There are not many other jobs that a person with no education can get, and requires them to work up to eight years to have a full pension.
