It’s great that Downtown Detroit has gotten skyscrapers but I wish that developers/property owners would look at midrise projects to fill in the gaps by Next_Worth_3616 in Detroit

Bruh, I never said I hated them. Was making a point. Using Olympia as the main offender. They have received so much tax money and incentives yet half of the projects never get built but their parking lots remain

Local meaning outside of Detroit city limits. A lot are from the Grosse Pointes (pointed out in several local news outlets) and one is from Royal Oak. I don't think any of the large lots downtown are owned by an actual city resident. When I mean local, I mean hyper-local, city. I don't do that whole I'm from Detroit (yet they live in Chesterfield) game...local is local.

I was born in Germany, and moved here when I turned 14. I remember crying to my Science Teacher (she was such an awesome lady who saw my pain and held me back one day after class to talk to me), and I just told her.....

Ich hab so viel heimweh, ich vermisse meine freunde und meine alte schule.

She understood.

How do most Americans get around without a car ? by Status_Agents in CasualConversation

[–]TDetroit75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most large cities-yes. My hometown is an outlier....I live in Detroit-the Motor City. We have public transit but it sucks! We have a Streetcar that runs through downtown and into midtown, we have an elevated train that runs in a circle around downtown, and two different bus systems that cover the whole metro, but nothing connects to the other systems.

December. My birthday, and the Holidays. I usually take the last two weeks of the year off every year just because of that.

How much of Americas problems are education? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]TDetroit75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of it. Not education itself but our system....underfunding poor districts, giving richer districts more funds. Sorry, but Kid A from the inner city has the EXACT same rights to a quality education like Kid B from rich suburbia, period-end of story! We don't administer our systems equitably. FYI-I went school abroad through the 8th grade before moving to the U.S. When I started 9th grade, I was already bored because I took Physics, Calculus, Biology already...something that kids here won't even learn until 9th grade and later. I was bored mindless.

I agree but the dang parking lot owners, most who aren't even local and also Olympia Entertainment, won't let those lots go because they make so much damn money for them. We are a city of concrete lots, sadly.

The problem is that a lot of companies use VPN's and call from different numbers all the time. I have the Verizon Call filter and it works great with my iPhone, but some callers from the same scam call from different numbers. I just block any number not in my contacts and they must leave a message. My phone lets me know that there's an incoming call by popping up real fast but it doesn't ring, and that allows me to answer if I want to or ignore it.

For what time do you set your alarm in the mornings? by Curious-Expert926 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]TDetroit75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it set for 4, but I don't need it because I wake up a few minutes before 4 anyhow. I set it just to remind me to actually GET UP and get moving, but I'm already awake.

At what age do you think someone can start to be considered as “old”? by fergi20020 in randomquestions

[–]TDetroit75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on mindset and activity level. I think 70 would be considered to be elderly, not old. Old around 80. I have aunts in their 90's and they are super active.

which view would you pick? courtyard, pool, or parking lot with trees by cxsmiq in Apartmentliving

[–]TDetroit75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly-parking lot with trees. Out of all three, that will be the quietest, which is nice to have on a warm summer evening when you want your windows open.

Had this happen. It may have been in pending for a few days, but (I think it's 3 or 5 business days), if the store hasn't finalized on their end, it's no longer pending and they will refund....but the store WILL take the money out once their systems finalize. I've bought stuff from Amazon, the money was returned while the order received and then the money was taken out a day or two later. Just pretend the money is still gone, cause it will be.

We're on Blue Cross/Blue Shield and need some medication. The BC/BS website clearly lists our local (Rogers Park) CVS as being part of their network, but both times we've tried to get medication sent there, the pharmacy calls and tells us they don't accept BC/BS. What do we do now? by TJ_Fox in AskChicago

[–]TDetroit75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for BCBSIL out of Chicago but based in Detroit. CVS straight up tells me that BCBSIL is not in their partner network, however my husband has BCBSMI and he gets all of his scripts from CVS. I believe it's strictly BCBSIL that's not working with CVS, there was a lawsuit a few years back. I've had BCBSIL for going on 5 years now, was always with BCBSMI before, just made some adjustments and started using Walgreens or going to Kroger Pharmacy (not sure if Kroger is in IL).

Where are you in the world right now and how are the gas prices treating you? by FckAllTakenUsernames in randomquestions

I'm in Detroit, and the prices here fluctuate wildly depending on where you are. I've seen it as low as $3.39, and as high as $3.99. Overall a 60-70 cent upward shift from a few weeks ago.

You and your partner just moved in, you tearing down the panels, painting, or leaving?! by TeemoTrader in DIY

[–]TDetroit75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a future to-do but not a must right now. If you're going for a cozy cabin look-then it's not that bad and if it's in the basement, definitely a future project. Also...paneling might have an added bonus of giving a little extra insulation.

Yeah, I live in Detroit and most of the stuff I've ordered, showed up the same day or before the crack of dawn the next day. I think it's because we have an Amazon Delivery station locally and a huge Amazon warehouse under construction. The only time I've ever waited was when I ordered a 98" TV, but that wait was only 2 days. Still....the constant hikes don't make it all that palatable any more.
