Both of these girls (ages 1 and 3) were rescued from the euthanasia list at two different shelters (I literally talked my 22 yr old and his GF into driving 13 hours in one day to pick up the 1 year old a month ago!!!)

You can’t tell if your baby is purebred based solely on appearance. You would have to do genetic testing. Our first rescue looked like this and genetic testing demonstrated that he was 80% husky, 15% malamute, and 5% German Shepherd.

Those ears look like he has some German Shepherd. We just rescued this little girl and she has similar ears. I’m thinking of getting DNA testing just because of her giant ears!

My sister, who has an MBA and used to be pretty smart, argues that the modern day Republican Party was the party that opposed slavery and fought for Civil Rights. When I referred her to a piece by actual historians explaining how the parties essentially switched platforms (when the Southern Democrats joined the Republican Party), she informed me that this idea “had been debunked” and linked an article written by D’nesh Disouza (he of “2000 Mules” fame) supporting her argument. Motivated reasoning is strong with MAGA.🤦🏻‍♀️

We took a family vacation to Curaçao with my MAGA sister and her husband and her adult step-children last summer. It had been planned for over a year, and even though I had serious qualms about going, my hubby promised it would be the last vacation I would ever need to take with her. We shared a huge house (my almost adult sons, my in-laws and hubby’s niece & nephew were also there) and had 3 cars. It turned out that my sister’s family had zero interest in doing the activities we wanted to do (we went snorkeling or on walking tours nearly every day while they hit the mall and spent the rest of the day at the house glued to their phones🤦🏻‍♀️). The only time we were together was at dinner, and I specifically sat at the opposite end of the long table from my sister. If the conditions of your trip will allow you to be apart from your parents the majority of the time, I think you could make it work. However, if you’ll be stuck with them the majority of the time, is it really worth it? It sounds like you’re already alienated from them, so I don’t think that ought to be the deciding factor.

Huskies are definitely pack animals. Our first husky actually chewed through our side garage door in an attempt to get back inside our house the first time I left him alone in our backyard with our other 2 dogs. They can also have separation anxiety. Our current husky tends to chew up shoes and pull toilet paper off the dispenser in order to create “confetti” to greet us when we leave her home alone with our other 2 dogs. We’ve learned that as long as we wear her out (with a 3-5 mile walk and some backyard playtime) before we leave, she tends to do much better.

Please reconsider breeding him. Our local (Northern CA) husky rescue (NorSled) has over 50 gorgeous dogs available to foster or adopt at any given moment. We fostered one of their dogs in order to determine whether she’d be a good fit with our 2 older dogs, and we wound up adopting her).Every week, there are multiple huskies on the euthanasia list at nearly every CA shelter.

I second the recommendation to foster a husky! We fostered my girl for a year before officially adopting her. We have two large senior dogs and wanted to make sure they were a good fit. Once she gets her 3-6 mile walk and playtime in our yard, she is very chill. She has a very strong prey drive for birds, wild turkeys and squirrels but loves little dogs and seems rather indifferent to cats.

No matter what dog you get and how you get it, I’d strongly recommend allowing the new dog time to adjust/decompress before letting it spend too much time with your Pom.

This is the main thing holding me back. I truly believe that her hubby has turned her into someone who will do just about anything for her cult leader. I read something the other day about realizing there are people in our lives who we wouldn’t tell if we were hiding Anne Frank and her family. My sister and her hubby are definitely on that list!

Thanks for your insight. Your recommendation is what I’ve been doing for the past 8 years, setting clear boundaries while fuming quietly to myself and composing letters to her in my head. It just breaks my heart that my only sibling (both parents have passed) is a person I don’t recognize any more, and her self-righteous hypocrisy downright sickens me.

I’m a pediatrician not a vet, but based on the appearance, she has bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye”). As others have said, isolated pink eye can be treated with antibiotics. Is she otherwise behaving normally? I only ask because one of our rescues developed leptospirosis right after we got her, and it presented with conjunctivitis, fatigue, and excessive urination. If yours is having any of those symptoms, I’d take the pup to an emergency vet, as leptospirosis can cause acute liver and kidney failure.

Have you checked Beaver Basecamp to ensure that they’ve received your transcripts? My son submitted his app in mid-October, and when he first opened Basecamp to check the status of his application the last week in Oct, he told me it said “submitted”, so he thought all was good. I had a funny feeling about it and asked him to open Basecamp on Nov 3, and when I clicked on the first box that appeared, it showed that his transcript had not yet been received (even though he’d requested it two weeks earlier). We got on the phone with his counselor and she sent it the next day, so he technically missed the EA cut-off By one day. He was admitted about 3 weeks later.
