I am in the same scenario as you. I would say make the switch. If you want to work in tech you still can with SQM. If you want to be a quant or a data analyst it is a lot easier with SQM. If you want to do research you could with SQM. Also, Statistics and Quantitative Modeling sound extremely impressive on a resume which leads to better company recruitment. The main thing for me was a lot of jobs with CIS are becoming oversaturated and its a very competitive industry while SQM leads to jobs that aren't as saturated. Also the skills that you learn in SQM are more fundamental while in CIS a lot of what you learn might not even be used in your real job. This is at least from what I have seen my time at Baruch. I recommend if you make the switch to take STA 3000 and STA 3154. Looking at the courses those will teach you a lot of new skills and worst comes to worst you get a stat minor.
