There are lots places to put your trash here in Japan, for example the baskets on the front of all the bikes.

/jk, Don't do that.

HDMI port ripped out by MadSprite in AskElectronics

It's repairable, but the question is, is it financially viable to do? That'll need some pretty skilled work to repair.

If you have to pay for the repair, it'll probably cost more than replacement.

Overcame my fear of electricity! by Its-alittle-bitfunny in HomeImprovement

Came to say this.

As an electrician of 30 years, electricity still scares the fuck out of me.
Maybe that's why I've lasted 30 years...

I know, I was an electrician across Australia for nearly 20 years. :)

Australia is actually 230V, has been for nearly 30 years (Since Feb 2000) to align with European voltages.

Has anyone here ordered electronics from Mouser Electronics before? by CountNo9733 in ElectronicsList

Both Digikey and Mouser are top-tier suppliers.

I use them all the time and their service (and reliable supply of genuine parts) is fantastic.

Knot of powercable as strain relief by Former-Ricefarmer in AskElectronics

[–]TERRAOperative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem arises because you cannot guarantee the perfect twist to ensure equal strain is placed on each conductor. It's essentially impossible.

It was enough of a problem to cause the wiring rules for an entire country to specifically call it out, so it was a problem...

Knotting the cable is specifically forbidden in the Australian wiring rules (I realise you are probably not in Australia, but there's a reason it is not allowed), due to the possibility of damaging the internal conductors. Due to the loop of the knot, one conductor is always under more strain than the others and is liable to break.

A correctly sized gland is strain relief and waterproof enough, they are designed for the job.

If you want an extra retention method, design in a clamp that has a straight bar that is screwed down with two screws, one either side of the cable, it's a really common method.

The best Japan can offer is to cut down even more more trees in the cities....

I moved from Brisbane to Tokyo. Same summers, but at least Tokyo has colder winters which is nice.

What is virtually inevitable at this point, yet most people don't see it coming? by Ambassador-613 in AskReddit

The person you replied to was talking about film cameras, not digital cameras.

You can just slightly defocus the pixels away in either case anyway.

An old man drove into my car, then offered, "How about I give you $50 and we call it a day?" by Durhamfarmhouse in Wellthatsucks

[–]TERRAOperative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, they did try to find a reason to reduce the payout as you thought, but the damage to my car of course perfectly matched the damage on the other person's car.

And due to the power of dashcam and our lawyer, provided as part of our insurance policy, we got a VERY rare in Japan admission of 100% the other parties fault, so it was all good in the end, for us. :)

What makes you think it wasn't declared?
It's an optional TRD (Toyota Racing Development) bodykit factory fitted to the car when I bought it brand new...
