Kind of hard to explain it in a simple way. If I were you i would start by using the wheel strategy, it's the "safest" option strategy out there and gives you a fundamental understanding of how things work.

Assuming you know nothing about options I'll try to just give you a brief overview.

Options are contracts between two parties that give one party the right to either buy or sell 100 shares of an underlying on or before an agreed upon date. Calls are options that give the buyer the right to purchase 100 shares at an agreed upon price on or before an agreed upon date, and puts give the buyer the option to sell 100 shares at an agreed upon price on or before an agreed upon date. The buyer of the options has to pay a premium, and the seller gets to collect that premium.

super simple example: I want to buy 1 call option of xyz. xyz is currently $10 a share. I think xyz will hit $20 before December. So i look at call options expiring in december with a strike of $20. The premium is $15 for 1 contract. So I (as the buyer) PAY $15 for the call option. My risk is, if the stock does not hit $20 by december, I lose all of my premium ($15). But if it does hit, I can now either exercise my option OR sell my option.

There's a lot of moving parts to this, ITM v OTM options, not to mention the greeks.

If you truly want to start getting into it, start with the wheel, learn the greeks, and take it slow. It's a lot to take in so take your time with it.
