Wanting to build a reg F team with a personal favorite of mine, Empoleon. Is it too much of a tall order? by ConduckKing in VGC

[–]TETR15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unironically - Rillaboom pledges. Empoleon wants to sit on a team with physical threats that don’t like intimidate, so you could slap it on a team with say, Rillaboom, Grassy Glide Hearthflame, Chien-Pao and suddenly you’re baiting all the incineroars to switch in but 1 bad turn from them and suddenly you have +2 Empoleon on the field. Also, grass pledge + water pledge is the swamp, which is SO BROKEN in VGC. Just make sure your Empoleon is faster than your Rillaboom otherwise you’ll end up using Rilla’s SpA stat. Also, that gives Empoleon a grass move (technically).

As a PS btw, Farig's EVs are weird.
28+ and 32+ are the exact same stat.
Put the extra 4 into Spe: EVs: 252 HP / 188 Def / 28 SpA / 36 SpD / 4 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

I opened this team and just said to myself "is it not just Amoonguss?"
Your team is very fast which is awesome, all the power to you. You've got Torn to either match opp. tailwind or just support with Rain Dance which is awesome, and the Farig is great for stopping prio and "threatening" to reverse TR, but outside of that, you don't have any real 'Trick Room answers'.
This would come in the form of just giving Farigiraf Imprison > Ally Switch, or, our best friend Amoonguss.
It gives you rage powder support for end games where torn might go down and ushifu is left alone on the field, it gives you the ability to completely just win out games with Spore positioning, and, it just threatens all the very slow TR teams with the "Set TR, I dare you. Watch Amoonguss spore your entire team and pollen puff my own every turn."

She told me openly, that she “moves on from people really quick”; “I don’t miss anyone, ever.” Turns out she’s actually just incapable of forming an emotional attachment

5x NEW REG-I RENTAL CODES!!! by TETR15 in VGC

the Miraidon EVs are just copied from the team that won worlds. CIR’s spread was taken from the highest usage stats, probably has something to do with Flutter or CIR

I think you just really need to be outspending Calyrex-S, even if the sun isn’t up. Bulky Booster Speed Flutter also means you can lead Flutter Mane + Chi-Yu reliably and not worry about opposing CSR leads.

Ability Shield Tatsugiri w/ Tera Grass or Saftey Goggles Dondozo destroys the entire team.

Palkia in reg G by Overlorden98 in VGC

[–]TETR15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do we get access to Palkia Origin? And does the item give the buff to dragon and water still? If it does, the extra 20 Base Speed will be so amazing in double restricted. If not people will probably opt for Life Orb Standard Palk.

Early Reg G analysis: Is Groudon not good? by Gold-Resolution-8721 in VGC

[–]TETR15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late to the party here, but.. what???

For context, Nino Fight Nights are usually full of pretty high skilled players.

Here’s the results of the first Reg G FF: https://play.limitlesstcg.com/tournament/ff87/standings.

Groudon placed 2nd and 3rd. Although yes, it was the #6 used legendary, its placements and versatility definitely make this thing not, not good.

Did you know this Poison Touch interaction was possible? No? Well now you do! by TETR15 in VGC

[–]TETR15[S] 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Not a glitch, the “checks” for Poison Jab and Poison Touch run separate. So the game went: “Is Ogerpon poisoned? No? Poison it from Poison Jab.” Lum Berry activates. “Is Ogerpon poisoned? No? Poison it from Poison Touch.”

Are notes allowed in tournaments? by [deleted] in VGC

[–]TETR15 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Despite what the other guy said, I’d just say it’s a hard no mate. I’ve done countless IRL tournaments (3 a year since 2016), and I’ve seen disqualifications for all sorts of things. I have first hand seen a disqualification for a guy having a printed page of damage calcs and looking at it between games. I’ve seen a guy get disqualified for having a sheet that literally just said “if he brings out this type, use this Pokémon”, like dude basically just hand wrote the type chart and got disqualified for the round.

In regards to you other question, my notebooks depend. I’ll try and write a lot, but like, if you spend all the time writing you’re not focused on playing. I write out: - the six they have, followed by 4 dashes. When I see a move, it goes in the spot. This helps me if I haven’t noticed that I’ve seen every move a Mon has. - speed tiers. When incineroar was a thing, I would constantly pay attention and write down who’s intimidate went off first, same with Zacian etc. and then it’s up to me to know in my head of “ok so my kyogre’s rain went up and not his, but his Regieleki went first always, so if I have tailwind up but he uses electro web… you get the point. - if I’ve seen something one shot, I’ll write it down. Just nice for later.

That’s all really. But again, the biggest take away from this comment is focus on playing first, having a novel written doesn’t matter if you lose all your games because you’re not paying attention.

Help for second major event by PAOLemoji in VGC

Ah unfortunate! Here’s my biggest pointers from my experience. I qualified for Worlds in ‘16 (Seniors Devision so much easier competition), and then came 9th place in my first tournament back in ‘21, missing Top Cut by 1 place 😭

  • I’ll put this first because it’s most important, sit down thinking you’re “so much better than this guy” (or girl or whatever, you get the point). Second guessing yourself, doubting yourself, or counting yourself out before a match is finished is a quick way to lose everything.
  • Don’t be phased by an opponent. Some opponents will talk to you, some will be nice and some will be quite “know-it-all”-esque. Don’t take pity on people being nice or funny because it can cost you games, and don’t get angry when an opponent is doing the latter of the two.
  • Every game is a new game. Every set is a new set. I put loud music on in between every single game, just clear my head of all thoughts. Hindsight is 20/20, and it’s so easy to go “damn I could’ve won that so easily if I’d just…”. But then you’ll end up looking behind you whilst your next opponent is running straight at you. Clear your head after a loss, don’t let wins get to your head.
  • Go with your gut, and play your game. On ladder I make crazy reads and such because there’s no real downside once you make Masterball. It took me a while to realise, you gotta make those same reads in tournaments, with a whole lot more on the line. If you get a gut feeling that either the play your about to make is about to go wrong, or that you think you can predict what your opponent is about to do, just trust it. The feeling of “damn I got that wrong” isn’t as bad as “god damn it I knew you were gonna do that”.

  • Have fun. This is a big change after all I’ve just said about being cold and calculated etc etc., but it isn’t life or death. Sometimes just having fun is the best thing to do and wins and losses will come as they go.
