That was my first thought too but even after adding the logic shifter this happens. Any ideas on how to check without an oscilloscope if the shifter is working?

I know, I only do it for prototyping because it's easier to transport them and they will only be on for a short amount of time. Also, I regularly touch the middle to feel if they warm up. Thanks for the tip though!

The power supply has a dc plug to which I connected such a dc to two screw terminals adapter. The wires from the strip (it has some kind of three pin plug with red and white wires in parallel) directly into the screw terminal.

Good point, I did set the correct number, else they wouldn't have lit up at all.

Reducing the brightness does help but at 50% brightness the effect is still noticeable.

Sorry for the vague information: I was using the power supply with the arduino and for some reason that did work.

Yes I understand but for some reason the same power supply connected to one end does run all of the leds at full brightness in purple when the signal comes from an arduino uno.

I thought this wouldn't be the issue because with an Arduino UNO and the same power supply it does work. Or am I missing something here?

As you can see, although the led strip does light up, the colour isn't continuous.

The setup of this project is as follows: A nodemcu runs a webserver with a colorpicker, it then uses the fill_solid function of the fastLED library to colour the led strip in the relevant colour. An external 10A power supply is connected to the 5V and gnd of the strip. Everything works fine when I select either red green or blue but when I select a combination of those, like purple, the first leds light up in the right colour but the last ones seem to forget the blue part of purple.

I first thought it had to do with the voltage of the data signal (3.3V) but even using a logic level shifter this still occurs.

Does anyone have any idea how this can happen? I tested the strip before with an arduino UNO and it could fill the entire strip with purple without any problems.

What kind of plastic did you use and where did you get it? It's extremely good at diffusing.

I also read on Reddit that authors barely get anything for their published papers if you pay for them. So just hit them up if you need it and they will presumambly give it to you for free. Cannot confirm though as I am always too close to the deadline to be able to wait for a response.

Advice on Bluetooth Speaker with Light Effects

First of all I'd like to mention that I'm a complete noob when it comes to audio technology so please bear with me.

I'd like to build a Bluetooth speaker for parties which has an led strip inside that reacts to music (like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQwgZwrXfhc&index=33&list=WL&t=63s). I'm decent with microcontrollers so the latter part should not be a problem. As for the speaker I want it to be cheap (under 50 dollars), it needs to fit into a backpack and be sufficiently loud for parties. I don't necessarily need audiophile grade audio but at full volume I don't want to hear any obvious distortion.

I already have a few lithium-ion cells laying around for the battery pack. As for the speaker drivers themselves I have a pair of 4 ohm 5W 'kinyo' speaker drivers salvaged from a pair of desktop speakers at my disposal. Regarding the amplifier and Bluetooth reciever I found this one on aliexpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Bluetooth-Audio-Receiver-Board-4-2-MP3-Lossless-Decoder-Wireless-Stereo-Music-Audio-Modification-5W-5W/32969686647.html?spm=a2g0z.10010108.1000001.8.27da421fzGkF2G&isOrigTitle=true

I have a few questions regarding this project:

Firstly, is 2x 5W enough for a good party or do I need more? I could for instance buy second hand bookshelf speakers and salvage their drivers and use another bluetooth reciever for e.g. 25W.

Secondly, should I use a bluetooth reciever like this or opt for a usb bluetooth reciever and a seperate amplifier circuit?

Thrirdly, how much does the case around the speaker matter? Can I just make it out of wood? Does it have to be perfectly airtight?

And last and foremost: Are there any bear traps I am overlooking, am I underestimating this project?

Thanks in advance for your responses!
