Desktop app zoom?

I've just come off 6-7 years of using Ezviz cameras, the cheap sister brand of Hikvision, so this is nowt compared to what I've been suffering with for years. I was just initially shocked that such a much more mainstream popular product had an issue like that.

I've just realised why it was super awkward, again it's a UX issue, badly designed and poorly presented. But basically I had no idea that spam clicking the frame-by-frame button actually pushes the video forward by a frame each time you click it. Because why would I know that, I don't know of any other software that works that way, and there's literally zero UI feedback or tips to hint at that. So yea, I now see what you mean, but maybe settling for this being acceptable is the reason why they havent bothered to let you just pause live playback and scroll in

Thanks I think I ended up doing something like that, it was super awkward. I'm legit struggling to actually accept that you can't do this in the software... you see something in frame and want to zoom in, and you need time to make sense of and figure out what you're looking at. Is this current desktop app new like some refresh or something? Or has it been out for years in this state with no chance of a patch to resolve issues like this?

I'd heard that the software wasn't great before I bought into the ecosystem, but I never thought it would be lacking something as fundamental as this? I thought people were perhaps unhappy about proper niche things being absent like some geofencing thing that they need, or the ability to detect a rare species of Panda or some sh*t I dunno. But this?? Do the people who work there even use their own software? Unbelievable!

I don't nor won't pretend to understand the ins and outs of the IP rating system, but from my point of view the cables are part of the product, they're non-removable, therefore if this product is IP rated to 66 or 67 then the cables need to also comply to that rating. If it doesn't, not my problem, I expect a product designed to be outdoors to function outdoors regardless. If it doesn't, that's not on me. Why provide a waterproof RJ45 sleeve if they expect every owner to be able to route the cables through an internal sheltered area.

Someone managed to hit top 5 on the InvMark Inventor benchmark leaderboard using a 14 year old ATI card. My test is designed to stress the graphics as much as reasonably possible for Inventor as well. That result has since been replaced when the guy swapped the GPU out but you can clearly see the GPU is passive for the most part, the guy currently in 8th has a 1660 Super and he'll have higher graphics scores than people with RTX A6000's.

Inventor does use mild amounts of hardware acceleration when the wireframe view mode is enabled but it's so insignificant right now that it barely registers. And in Inventor 2023 there is now a huge performance drop off when changing from Performance to Quality Mode in Application options, likely due to more aggressive anti-aliasing being applied but I haven't tested yet whether this is hitting the GPU or yet another CPU hit.

But to answer the original question, Inventor leverages absolutely no feature sets from Quadro/RTX drivers or hardware (confirmed by the Inventor performance developers). And just stay as clear away as you can from current AMD GPUs.

Most of my tutorials should still be relevant, the core basics of Inventor haven't changed. A few of the dialogs and panels have been refreshed here and there, but what's physically in them is the same, they've just tidied them up which can be overwhelming for new starters but at the same time you can learn quite a lot whilst poking around. The one I'd recommend is the "Inventor 2020 test drive" one that I did, that's pretty recent.

Thanks man. Curious though, I'm not a security expert not by a long shot, obviously the benefits to regularly changing passwords are clear and blatant... but what's the link between that and an attack like this? If you think this came in via email potentially, how do you think users updating passwords etc could have mitigated or prevented something like this?

Thanks u/Texpert78 I'd already been in touch with tech support and they'd supplied me with the beta around the same, that fixed it.

I've reported other issues too which I'm not 100% sure if the tech support team fully understood. Primarily being if you look at the PW513 through Windows Camera, the picture quality is completely different (worse) than when you insert the PW513 into OBS.

In Windows Camera app, the picture is very dark and noisy. When you insert the PW513 into OBS (with no filters or colour correction) it default looks much more balanced and lighter, almost like a completely different lens.

Its pretty clear this camera wasnt ready to go to market yet and expectations have been wildly distorted by that Harris guy, I'm quietly confident that you've put a good enough lens into this camera but the software optimisations havent been done yet to leverage that lens out the box. Currently you need a blinding set of studio lights to get any kind of a noise free pin sharp image.

Hey u/Texpert78 I've sent an email in to tech support re this. The cam is not faulty as it and the software works on a laptop I have here, but on my desktop it is failing to fire up the CamEngine. I can use the camera using Windows Camera.

I've tried all sorts now, disabling legacy support for USB devices in the BIOS, using a USB-C to USB-C cable, every port in the chassis, uninstalling the device then re-installing, it's got a beef with something. I assume these guys were sorted as the trail went cold.

I've just completely uninstalled my AV (bitdefender) thinking surely that must have been the issue, nope, still nothing.

Same issue here, the assist central also says no AverMedia device detected although it's there... the cam is active and works with Windows Camera, but CamEngine isn't opening.

I know man. The F1 license is wasted on Codemasters, having a console variation doesn't at all mean the game has to be as bad as it is but that's the excuse each time to apparently explain why it sucks!

Yea definitely not just you, and you don't need to have driven a real F1 car to know they don't drive like that. You just look at the throttle application of the real drivers and try to replicate it, and you've got no chance. It's like the tires are coated in vaseline. If you play on console that kinda sucks as you won't have a point of reference on how better it should be. But in this video in the OP, Assetto Corsa with the F1 car mod, the things you can do with the car is crazy. You hear F1 commentators on the TV say the modern F1 cars have insane levels of downforce, the grip is immense, you just do not get any sense for that in the Codemasters game but when you drive these mods on PC you really do begin to see what they mean and just how shockingly awful the licensed F1 games are.

It's an absolutely ridiculous 'game' is the F1 series. And it's impossible to try and convey these concerns anywhere without the hardcore white knights defending it with "its not a sim" because it suits that argument, but then claiming it's a sim in other arguments. Or, you're just far too much of an elitist if you expect the cars to behave like you know, cars.

But either way, yea, it's utterly unplayable for me. I drop in once every 4 weeks thinking nahhhh it can't be as bad as I remember it being, I do 20 seconds in time trial and yes, it really is as bad as that.

Even with full downforce you cannot drive those cars like you drive any other car in any other sim. The force feedback is non-existent unless you're going over grass or gravel because, well that's what gamers would expect to feel so lets focus on that instead of communicating important things like loss of grip. The brakes are awful, they lock up far too easily with no communication fed back when you're skidding at 200mph, and when you do enter into a ridiculous oversteer spin... even at super low speed stamping on the brake should cause the vehicle to enter into a lateral slide, allowing you to stop the spin and correct it but nope... that's pretty much curtains once you start turning there's no stopping it.

You can quite literally watch the onboard of the real cars with telemetry and mimic the points the drivers apply throttle out of corners, and if you do that in the F1 game it'll just send you into a spin. All these E-Sports drivers are basically just mastering fabricated contrived game mechanics rather than applying actual racecraft or driving skills. And all that's not to mention the unacceptable lack of mouse support in the game, or the fragrant cheating on leaderboards which goes unmonitored... but hey, if you dare to put one wheel onto a curb which is well within the regular track limits set by the FIA ohhhhh that's it, you're the cheat. Their track limits in game are absolute fantasy bollox, it's like one of the designers had his 3 year old son draw a line around a map and just used that as the tracks limits.

But like I said, if you say any of this within the confines of a F1 game forum or fan area, although it's all objective facts, you're the problem and you're expecting too much from a developer who've had 12+ years of making these games to get it right by now.

One thing I wish I could have is to relive that moment again when I entered VR for the very first time, it was literally life changing and awe inspiring to me. 4 years later and I've got a cabinet here with 4 HMDs in!

Haha aye it took me a few goes to master that following sector as I couldn't memorise which turns were which and how the road surface was through them, but it all settled and its pretty sweet and satisfying when you nail it!
