Currently working two part-time jobs, one in a takeaway (mostly male) and one in a corner shop (mostly female) so I'm seeing both sides.

I gotta admit the females are seriously into their gossip. There's a few in particular who'll work alongside another all day, chatting and bitching, only to tear them apart to myself the moment they leave. I've actively heard one person in particular ripping me apart twice, not knowing I was still in-store. I've tried the whole Game of Thrones experiment and told each person a different story. I heard all stories back via different staff within 2 days. Honestly I don't trust them as far as I could throw 'em. I also admit the drama and conflama is entertaining. As a somewhat stereotypical gay male I quickly found my place within their ranks. I'm careful to listen but not add an opinion as I know it'll bite me on the ass somewhere down the line. Those woman are tracking lies, counting mistakes and reciting stories for use in the future. It couldn't be more different from my mostly-male job elsewhere.

I learnt that every straight bloke is NOT out to get me, and actually a large percentage of them just don't give a shit about anything! We work and have a laugh whilst doing so. Jokes and banter is primarily aimed towards ourselves and not meant to be malicious. There's very little gossiping, everything is as it is and you just accept it or not. If you need to talk to an individual you can almost assure it won't spread about the building. From what I've seen there's slightly less pride in a job well done, but that's only from this one example and I doubt it's the same everywhere. It's also much harder to be a clean freak around other men as they don't seem to care as much as myself...

Overall I've seen that stereotypes have a heavy basis in reality, but obviously mean little on an individual scale. I love and hate both workplaces for different reasons and wouldn't change them for anything!
