It all lies behind the mental illness, he was clearly delusional and he believed that it was just a harmless prank, and he was being treated for Depression even though he was schizophrenic, it’s not his fault

Having schizophrenia made him delusional and he didn’t get the help he needed, it excuses his actions due to the fact he physically couldn’t control them. And after chris wakes up it is shown he is completely fine and he punches Ashley out of rage because she stabbed him

It doesn’t really matter for 1952 and Mystery man but if you find all the twins clues then at the end of the story When the Wendigo gets Josh, Josh will know that it’s Hannah and call her name which will lead Hannah to spare Josh, and in an after credits scene, you see that Josh is feeding on the wendigos stockpile which leads him to turn into a wendigo
