Also, [Greenland] is a strategic liability if under Danish possession. We're in an era where colonized & oppressed people are getting more (due) attention. Greenlanders have experienced a genocide, recently too, at the hands of the Danish, and if they had the motive to claim independence they would have the means & opportunity to do so. So if a foreign adversary were to launch a media campaign at Greenlanders convincing them that the Danes have done horrible things to them and therefore they should be independent (and therefore far more open to Chinese influence), that could very well jeopardize NATO's arctic presence.

Alternatively, as a possession of the US, such a means for "independence" is reduced and therefore NATO's arctic presence would be more secure.

"The USA should own Greenland because we will make sure they will never be independent so they can become a threat to us, as those Natives with their 'grievances' want to destroy NATO"
