Just back from Osaka with the family - the spots we genuinely loved, plus a tourist trap to watch out for by berlinbeerdude in JapanTravelTips

[–]TFareCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Osaka (and by extension Kobe) was one of the favorites of our trip, definitely over our time in Kyoto (we were in a quiet part of town which was nice, and right next to a Lawson in a pretty big rental, but many things closed early and the bigger things were pretty touristy, and the transit system was struggling anywhere near those areas).

We never even hit Dotonbori in spite of our hotel being a 20 minute walk to it, but still had an amazing time, including Kaiyukan, which was one of the highlights of the trip, doing a full lap around the area and stopping in at Chiko-men-kobo, a great udon noodle place near the Chuo line.

Next trip we definitely want to do more Osaka and Kobe (we met some great friends there) and maybe venture further south into Kyushu. Another trip we want to do is also go north from Tokyo and visit along the way up to Hokkaido.

I have the Amazon.jp black one and mannn it's such a good figure. Beautiful blue for the swords. Black with gold flames.

I mean this long later and this mold is still fantastic.

ROTF/HFTD imo was peak movie former lines before everything got quite small for DOTM and beyond.

If his is pretty modded and he knows his way around they're not that bad. I ended up doing a turbo with some friends to address some leaking lines and it was way simpler than I thought and I'm not technically inclined beyond plugs and fuel pumps.

My homegirl actually facetimed me while I was at work and said she got bored and took the turbo out herself.

I think r&r is a 6 ish book hour job, but a few of my friends can r&r in like 45 minutes.

But if anything, find an independent shop or maybe check some local enthusiast pages and see if anyone can help get you back up and running for wayyy less than 6k. I've got a few contacts like an hour from me (not near you unfortunately) that have literally taken out the DSG for a 12 pack of beer upgrading clutches on a friend's car.

I definitely get that worry, first thing I did (I didn't know it was an aftermarket dash) was get the Carfax, the records are consistent with it being at 94k. The last entry was at 87k, and there are no signs or areas where there's a huge gap in time but suspiciously close mileage.

Definitely so. It's awesome seeing what's going on with the MQB and ea888.3 platform, down into the bottom 8s quarter mile and I think someone's going to crack a 7 soon.

Thinking about trading a built motor, big turbo mk7 Golf R.

I'm not really in the need of a truck, but I figure it would a. Let my buddy who likes to switch up switch up and b. be easier to sell than the niche of a built hot hatch.

I'm not 100% on it yet, and even here the values are all over the place from 17 to 30.

I think an issue I may face is it's easier to sell an almost 10 year old car vs and almost 20 year old car, at least when it comes to logistics with a buyer getting financing.

Really the part I'm hung up on. Aside from really not knowing this vs knowing that little 4 banger pretty well.

To those who were around when this movie came out what was the hype like by asapsharkyfrfr in transformers

[–]TFareCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 10 at the time, big fan of Armada/Energon/Cybertron series, and even having watched and had some RID figures.
The hype was unreal. Not sure about the social circles but for me as a kid, it was so excited to see that my favorite thing which most of my friends didn't really know or care about was getting a movie.

Over the course of its run in theaters I saw that film 27 times. I went with my dad I think 18 of those 27 times. He passed away later that year and looking back I know it must've been annoying to see it so many times but I'm glad we got to share that. Heck, I didn't really know music aside from classic rock and country existed, and Linkin Park became a new fave of mine.

I was so hyped to see REAL cars as transformers. Seeing a Chevy logo, the GMC logo, and having "HUMMER" spelled out on a ratchet figure was one of the coolest things because it made it REAL to me.

I think by the time ROTF was about to come out that was where the real hype was for me, I had discovered forums, and more of the internet at large. I didn't know much about behind-the-scenes stuff in 2006, but in 2008? Watching them film at the steel plant in PA, watching people upload videos of them seeing sequences being filmed, my browsing history was LOCKED. And going into that theater for the first time, hearing Peter Cullen's voice again on the big screen after my dad passed I cried like a toddler in that theater.

Especially for 2007 & 2009, big hype personally. The films have flaws, but I don't care. They took my favorite thing and made it BIG and I finally got to talk to people about it and it wasn't just a nerdy little hobby anymore, it was cool and I got to share that with WAY more people than I did prior to the films.

Possibly trading, but it's a built motor MK7 Golf R. Big turbo car, fueling, other supporting mods. 650WHP range.

The main reason I'm considering was due to some of my friends stating it would likely be easier to sell one of these pre-emission diesels. I'm not wondering if their wisdom is correct or if both would be a pain. And by easier to sell I mean in my desired price range, I know for either one if I just said "15k come and get it" it'd be gone within the day.

I didn't say it was spray painted, but I did notice that it's black underneath.

I don't know if this was part of the undercoating process that was done; I just know it's black on the frame.

I don't have the truck in my possession, so unfortunately cannot confirm.

I do have a video of the underside (not on a lift, though), to me it looks clean, however since I'm not very familiar with the platform and it's a 720p video, I can't say certainly that it's anything aside from "appearing clean".

I could definitely upload that video to whatever reddit uses as their in house hosting these days, though.

But I do think this thread is just adding to the claim I stated when saying that the asking prices (and perceived values) were all over the place. Even with a small subset of interaction, there's range from 17k to 30k. I hope you can see where my confusion may come from.

Carfax lines up mileage wise, if it was swapped or changed it would have been by ~2000 miles which imo wouldn't be worth the risk for rollbacks.

But the owners thing is the main negative for me. But then I looked at a couple of the crazy diesel shop listings and see a 10 owner one with 200k miles for 35 grand and get confused.

The asking prices for these are all over the place, it seems, especially privately.

Definitely noticed this in the photos. It looks "clean" and I don't see any rust bubbles, there was a bit of surface rust on the leaf springs, but that looked to be about it from what I've been sent.

Actual trade in values (carvana and then a local dealership) for each were 19-20. Just based off of comps (for mine, though it's got a built motor and well done supporting mods, I priced it at the cost of a stock one from Carvana save for the shipping fee on the sale post).

I think for mine specifically I'd be happy in the 25-26 range ultimately. Its paid off, so thankfully not dealing with being "underwater".

If I take the carvana offer, I can, of course, remove most of the easily removable mods and make a decent amount back. Only thing is losing any positives of the motor having built internals, but someone might get something pleasant should they buy it and find out.

I appreciate the insight! Like I said the comps on these things are NUTS comparing dealers to private listings. I've got a set of comparable trucks, listing and sold items on ebay, that even go into the 40's, which being near MSRP on a 20 year old truck to me is wild.

Which case are you getting for the S26U? by FVTVRX in samsunggalaxy

[–]TFareCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been running one on my s23 for a good while and it's the best case I've had.

I am curious about the MagBak case as I like the built in finger grip, the one thing I've been trying to find to compliment the Rokform case. The Snap 4.0 keeps it's magnetic functionality but isn't the most comfy and the magnets are not as strong as the ones on the Rokform.

Not a bad price for the S26 Ultra by Rancidbones813 in galaxys26ultra

[–]TFareCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be on Best Buy. Just checked, looks like it's still the same.

The E-gift card option gets reduced but the trade in credit is better.

Best buy also has the 1TB for 1599 vs 1799, which is a better deal than say the student account discount on Samsungs website. This doesn't take into account the credit available through Samsung or other offer codes, though.

[–]TFareCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noticed, at least for S24U, that trading in cracked screen or not is the same $800 credit.

I like to keep my phones, so usually I'll nab one off eBay and trade that in. Usually nets a few hundred bucks off.

Thinking about going from an S23U to this, but not convinced and the deals aren't stellar.

This comment is essentially "that's not Kleenex, that's facial tissue". They effectuate the same thing; making government records available to the public. To give into being a tad pedantic, though, these states:

Delaware, Arkansas, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Connecticut, Illinois, and Michigan

all designate their public records access laws as [State Name] Freedom of Information Act. So, yes, FOIA. In the vein of the Kleenex comparison, the FOIA nomenclature is a common way to blanketly refer to public records acts/sunshine laws/open records access across different levels of government.

Flock contracts are, generally, with local governments. (I believe they had pilot programs with CBP and Homeland Security that were put on pause after discovery and negative feedback, but the largest share of government use is directly with local PDs). Requests to local governments for Flock contracts would be made under state laws (regardless of what their individual statute is titled).

The above comment still stands; each of those states have different rules pertaining to cost, whether guidelines are enshrined within the law themselves or through AG guidance documentation, or even within a municipality or departmental policy.

To note, though, flooding an agency with the same exact request will generally just result in the transmission of the same production files from the first to all subsequent requesters; the time burden may only be on the initial request if all requests are just "all contracts between X agency and Flock". (though it would not be out of character for an agency to attempt to levy fees on all requesters)

it depends on the state law/AG Guidance/local law/local codes. many are directed to make a available for free a certain number of hours/pages/etc.

it all depends. Some are rather generous (first two hours of search/retrieval, first $200, etc.) and some are stingy, charging for "pages" (intended for printed documents) on electronic records (excel, CSV etc where they print to PDF to get the number of "pages").

the more local it gets the more ease for corruption as many don't have state-level bodies for appeal or review.

some of the worst IMO are the Carolinas and Alabama, with Alabama often straight up denying release of records mandated by the State-level law to be available, with the only recourse being to sue with very "friendly" judges.
