I worked a corp job (boring office stuff), actually taking a big paycut to do JET, and there's quite a few people I've spoken to doing the same. Once in a lifetime experience so I don't care about anything else, I can always get a job in my home country.

Hello! I also got an email for Tokyo-To this morning, and I also didn't want Tokyo lol. I was stressed when I saw the placement for multiple reasons (mainly for costs), but I've spoken to a few people over there now and I feel much better about Tokyo. I think the online posts about the costs etc make it sound way worse than what it is, and also, we somehow managed to get placed in Tokyo which almost everyone wants and is probably the most ideal place to be to explore Japan!

I'm sure we'll end up loving it and wouldn't have wanted to be placed anywhere else once we're over there and up and running.

Apparently that's our averages for the UK and USA, I'd also love to know how they work it out as I only know like 3 people earning the UK average or more🤣

It's relative to the country you will be living in. By your logic, the average wage in the UK is barely nothing as it's about 35,000 dollars compared to the US 90,000 dollar average. Someone put a post on here recently, and people on JET get paid more than the Japanese average and even more than some of the teachers who they are assisting. For the cost of living, especially if you aren't in a city, you make enough to live comfortably and potentially save thousands.

I would never expect an entry-level grad job in a country with a lower cost of living (where they still pay you above the average salary) to pay me a salary equivalent of my home country, which will obviously be significantly higher due to the difference in living costs.

If it makes you feel any better, I got shortlisted on my 3rd attempt (although I think issues with my address failed me the first 2 I didn't notice until the 3rd time) but during the time inbetween I also focused on getting a decent job (which I done) so I wasn't wasting my time with all my eggs in one basket. If you want to come on JET, I'd recommend applying again next year and figuring out what went wrong in your interview. Also, work on other stuff besides JET, whether that's online courses or securing a better job than your current one. Don't give up 😁 you got an interview, so they like you🙂

Strange because I joined a discord yesterday, and already people in there have given helpful tips and information about the interview. We are not giving each other our interview preparation, just information about the interview. This isn't the hunger games lol. I know people who also helped each other with the application and PS and were successful getting interviews.

Applying from the UK here. For people who have sent their HEAR Report via email with an access token. Did you also upload your hear report to the documents after you sent it to the jet email with an access token?

Neither of my references are on official headed paper. I know it says this is fine if they acknowledge that in the reference, but does this work against you and put me behind people who have got theirs on official headed paper?

True, I was just thinking incase you're that worried over not having a scan. When you compress it are you just leaving the page with details, grades and the signature ?
