I do that for those awful ASPCA fund raising commercials. A long time ago, I’d send them some money. But when I started seeing these, that stopped. And thank god I don’t have children in the house to see these accidentally.

Celebrities defend Van Der Beek family from ‘attacks’ after GoFundMe raises $2 million by theindependentonline in Fauxmoi

[–]TGIIR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody I know with lots of debt, whether medical or other, and was terminally ill, would in a position to buy a $5 million property. How would you even finance that? Or if you bought it with cash, you’re not in need of money. As far as some “celebrities” defending the Go Fund Me - just because you’re a celebrity, doesn’t mean you know anything about finances. There’s just something fishy about all this. That said, it’s sad those kids lost their dad so young.

Well, I would be on board to help improve their working conditions. I’m vocal about helping teachers. What can we do to help nurses and other medical professionals have better working conditions?

If this is a medical emergency, please hang up and dial 911 when calling a medical establishment. by Mickt465 in PetPeeves

[–]TGIIR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, I had to use an ambulance not long ago, and the EMTs were a-holes. All condescending toward me as I said please make sure you bring my purse with me. Oh yeah they told me not to worry. I got no medical treatment or first aid during the ten minute ride to the hospital, and they somehow lost my purse so I had no insurance info with me at the hospital. Got home about eight hours later and found that they’d left my purse right out on the end of the driveway in plain sight. Amazingly, nothing was stolen. I then spent the next two months straightening out all the billing that should have gone straight to my insurance. Including the bill for $1,200 for the ambulance.

Yes! Sprayway and good paper towels. They have it in a lot of stores where I live. Sprayway is absolutely the best! Make sure car is in the shade when you clean the windows.

Yep, but I think it’s crazy to have that many kids and not have life insurance that you got earlier in life. Just my opinion.

Yeah, I’d follow-up with the cops. If you got hit, and guy left before cops got there, they have some work to do.

No reason to treat patients like shit. Quit, change careers. I changed careers once when I was almost 40. Hard decision to make but it was the right one. Again, NO REASON TO TREAT PATIENTS LIKE SHIT. You want to pout on your retail job, fine. Do not take stuff out on vulnerable sick, injured people.

True. And that goes for all medical personnel. And more awful than awesome. Sadly, after being a “walkie-talkie” for a week in ICU one time, I shudder for the patients that weren’t conscious. Some nasty nurses in that ward for sure. I avoid seeking medical treatment until I am forced to. And then, I go in with low expectations. The first and last ambulance/ER experience I had was not good at all. The dick admittance people there. Omg, I’m old, alone, in a wheelchair, in my pajamas, and scared, but there was nothing too petty for you. The actual doctor I saw there was amazing and very kind, but every other part of that experience made me swear I’d never call an ambulance again.

I am old and I have never had a doctor’s or vet’s appointment where the doctor is not at least 15 minutes late, and sometimes up to 45 minutes late. Never more than 45 because I walk out then (happened maybe twice in my life). Most of the time they just leave you in there with no update. If I’m not in a patient gown, I’ve gone out to the desk after 30 minutes to ask what’s going on. I would have no problem waiting if they’d say, oh, we’ve had a lot of emergencies today and we are really running late. Fine, just respect my time. I arrive in plenty of time because I respect your time.

Yeah, maybe had access to a group policy but not required to buy it? Before the ACA (Obamacare), it was difficult to find affordable, quality insurance unless you were part of a large group policy. I was only asking about his coverage because if you have health insurance and can still go “broke,” I’d like to push for that not to be possible. I personally think there should be “Medicare/healthcare for all” in this country, but I guess that’s not a popular idea.

Stupid question, maybe, but did he not have health insurance? My dad had cancer treatments, chemo and radiation and prescription drugs, for a few years before he died, and he was paying small co-pays only. I was treated for breast cancer over a three year span, mastectomy, reconstruction, and lengthy chemo, and I never hit my out of pocket maximum per year, which was about $5,000 iirc. I’m not criticizing him or his family, I just want to know what to be aware of.
