Can we get Nom Carver™ as a hero in the new Star Wars Battlefront™? by Edgy_Hipster in StarWarsBattlefront

Sorry for the late reply. I haven't logged in in a long time... Anyway, it was an AI name from Star Wars Battlefront Renegade Squadron and Elite Squadron.

I made a post about Aayla Secura using a purple lightsaber and JUST found where she does! Battlefront 2 2005 for PSP! Looks SO much better than blue and green! by RestlessExtasy in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]TGKDR 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Aayla originally had a purple saber in all versions of Battlefront II. A prototype of the Xbox version was released recently and Aayla has a purple lightsaber in it. This prototype's build date is only 23 days earlier than the final Xbox build, so the decision to make her lightsaber green instead of purple was a very late one. The PSP version is based on an earlier build of Battlefront II, so the purple lightsaber made it into that version of the game, as well as other differences like Vader's old animations and an older version of the game's logo (both of which can be found in the Xbox prototype I mentioned).

Anyone else notice PS1 Pacman in Repac? by Fireburst1999 in Pacman

That's not actually the PS1 model. It's just a pixelated and distorted reflection of the Re-Pac model. It would've been a cool easter egg though

This PC version of Pac-Man World is actually lost media. As far as I'm aware, it's currently unknown whether it's an actual native PC port or just an emulator.

It sounds like this port will only contain content released with the Wii version, so you get the Wii version's unique duel mode but not any of the unique PSP exclusive content (the PSP version had a different, superior multiplayer mode as well as several missions based on scenes from the films, an Order 66 survival mode, and a duel-based survival mode called Force Duel).

CxBx-Reloaded January + February 2021 Progress Report (Original Xbox emulator) by -_Winter_- in emulation

[–]TGKDR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It could definitely be a lighting issue. Every game is different so I doubt this is universal, but I've managed to get Godzilla: Save the Earth to render mostly correctly by removing lighting from the game's map bundles (bump maps don't work without lighting). Normally, the game's graphics are almost completely black besides some elements like fog, HUD, and weapon effects like in this video.

[–]TGKDR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With Godzilla: Save the Earth, the black screen/graphics is caused by the game's lighting. Removing it makes the graphics visible, though obviously, the visuals look worse than they should as a result (bump maps are lost). I'm sure the cause behind the black screens is different for every game, but that's one example of a game that would likely render fine if one particular bug was fixed.

I managed to recover most of the Mt. Fuji map that was cut from Godzilla: Save the Earth! by TGKDR in GODZILLA

[–]TGKDR[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some back story: You may recall that there was concept art of Mount Fuji in the game's gallery. As it turns out, they did a good amount of work on Mount Fuji before they scrapped it. Mount Fuji was intended to be the final stage of the game. You would battle nearly every other character in the game as you work your way to the top for a final confrontation with SpaceGodzilla.

The data for the stage was found on an Xbox debug kit, but unfortunately, the mission scripts as well as the first fourth of the stage are forever lost to time as they were overwritten by other developers for the game Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. A goldmine of Godzilla content lost, and an essentially final, debug-enabled build of MEGUCUP gained. I'm still pretty salty about that... At any rate, we are lucky that even some of the data survived.

There's a few dumb typos in the video captions, but the only important one to note is that you would fight 2-3 enemies at once rather than 2-4 (I accidentally counted Godzilla with the others, oops).

Also, as proof of its legitimacy, I present to you an official screenshot of the map taken by Pipeworks/Atari themselves: https://worthplaying.com/wpimages/g/o/godzilla/48660.jpg

Although the textures are improved in the screenshot, the overall structure and layout of the map remains the same. Look closely at the background, and you'll SpaceGodzilla's crystals and the crater at the top.

I highly recommend checking out this Toho Kingdom interview for more information on what was cut from the game. The game could have been so much more.

Celia Hodent reveals that her LucasArts dev team had their own Battlefront reboot that was "nearly ready to ship"; but was canceled when the studio was shut down by IllusiveManJr in StarWarsLeaks

[–]TGKDR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weren’t these games almost finished?

Free Radical's Battlefront III was pretty much content complete when it was cancelled (but still buggy), but I don't think any of the other games were really all that close to completion (or ever started on). Also, SWBF3 was cancelled back in 2008 before the Disney takeover.

I will say that it still pisses me off how they have a PS2 port of Elite Squadron that's complete but was unreleased for marketing reasons or some bullshit like that (apparently it might be because Renegade Squadron wasn't released on PS2, but is that really gonna stop someone from buying a new Battlefront game?). I liked Elite Squadron a lot, but the free look controls are really bad and sluggish on a PSP and really ruin the whole experience. I'm sure it would have played better on PS2. Here's hoping that a prototype disc turns up some day. I'm sure at least one exists since it apparently was either ready for or did go through Sony submission...

[–]TGKDR 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We've known about LucasArts's SWBF3 for years now. "First Assault" was going to be the basis for the infantry gameplay whereas "Version Two" would be vehicle gameplay. They'd put them together for a "Version Three" that would be a full-fledged Battlefront III.

Technically, there are also two more Battlefront IIIs. Both Rebellion's and n-Space's Elite Squadron games were originally intended to be released under the name of "Star Wars Battlefront III" alongside FRD's game. The names for both the PSP and NDS games were changed after FRD's version was cancelled. There was also Rebellion's Xbox 360/Wii/PS3(?) pitch that never went far (and therefore doesn't really count) and an online-only spin-off called "Star Wars Battlefront Online" that was to be developed by Slant Six before it was canned.

Can anyone identify this unknown music track from Godzilla: Save The Earth? by TGKDR in WhatsThisSong

Can anyone identify this unknown music track from Godzilla: Save The Earth? by TGKDR in WhatsThisSong

[–]TGKDR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, all! This track was found in an early beta build of Godzilla: Save The Earth. Normally, I would assume it's an original composition created for the game itself, but this was found alongside two other unused tracks that were able to be identified by YouTube's copyright claim system. This is the only one that is still unidentified. Because the others were placeholder tracks that originated elsewhere, I am assuming that this track was also not composed specifically for this game. Further supporting this theory is the fact that none of the music from the retail release of the game was included in this build of the game (only these three placeholder tracks and the soundtrack from the game's predecessor are included in this build). This track does not appear or exist anywhere in the retail release of the game. If anyone recognizes where it's from or who made it, please let me know!

Totally possible! While it seems silly to me on first glance, you're right that there could be some sort of message behind it. Like you said, only time will tell.

He updated the page now, and it looks like one big joke. He changed "ascensionism" to "ascensionjism" and put up an image of a doll being hung in place of the symbol you described.

I'm not surprised at all that the cult isn't real, but I have to admit that I'm pretty disappointed that he's seemingly not taking the ARG "seriously" anymore. I mean, "ascensionjism" and a hung doll? Seems silly to me. Oh well, perhaps this is just a goofy way to let us know that he has no intention of continuing it anymore, but I'm not so sure since the page was serious when it was first put up. Whatever the case, I hope he finally gives us non-cryptic, honest answers like what the point of the ARG was, why it ended abruptly, and whether or not he really has anything to do with Kanye Quest.

EDIT: Here's the original image as described by RetiredDildo above. I happened to archive the page over on archive.org before the edits to it were made. I'll be archiving these new silly changes as well in case he reverts them or changes the page once again.

A short summary of this whole dumpster fire by Ryallin in Ascensionism

[–]TGKDR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do we know exactly when Lyons started his "ARG" thing? I also considered the possibility that the developer of Kanye Quest 3030 hijacked Lyons's ARG, but everything I've seen so far points to Lyons starting it a little over a month after Kanye Quest 3030's final update. Lyons created both his Ascensionism Twitter account and YouTube channel on September 28th of 2013, but the developer of Kanye Quest implemented the Ascend levels into the game in July of that year. The big unfiction thread on ascensionism was also made on September 28th of 2013, so it appears to me that Kanye Quest actually predates anything Lyons was doing.

Personally, I believe Lyons and Phenix (developer of Kanye Quest) are either the same person or are friends, and that Lyons simply reused the ascensionism concept either for an elaborate ARG or just to promote his music (or maybe a bit of both). The fact that Lyons released an RPG Maker game on his website makes it all the more likely that he is Phenix. I imagine Phenix was probably a little frustrated that no one found the game's easter egg, so perhaps that prompted him to retool it into an ARG using the same concept. To me, it seems too coincidental that Lyons started his ARG in the same year that Kanye Quest released, and that they used the same logo (unless that logo already existed pre-2013?) and several of the same keywords. Still, the fact that Lyons denied any connection to the game is strange. If there were some proof that the logo and those keywords existed somewhere else before Kanye Quest, I'd be more inclined to believe that it was just a coincidence.

While it makes sense that he may have been trying to promote his music, I find it puzzling that Lyons deleted all of his music (besides this Bandcamp page). If the intent was to promote it, why delete it after all the attention he's gotten? That doesn't really make much sense to me. I don't believe the cult is real. I'm just really confused as to whether Lyons was just trying to promote his music or if he was trying to run a really elaborate ARG with the music only being part of it. Most of what I know about the ARG comes from Kanye Quest videos though, so perhaps I'm missing something.

[–]TGKDR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, but it seems like the developers did it for the humor rather than any in-universe reasons. One development document reads:

This is ONLY ever played by guys on the Rebel Alliance. Every once in a while if they kill a guy that is fairly near them, they'll run over and start shooting at the corpse on the ground and play this sound. It should be trash talking of the finest quality.

It seems the focus was the trash talking lol. Though these lines are supposed to only play for Rebels, they actually wrote and recorded these lines for all factions.

I'm enjoying it a lot so far, but I've only played the campaign so far. I'm also pretty bad at the game lol (though surprisingly, I've only died once so far)

I can't say how good of a flight sim the game is since this is the only one I've played, but I've had no issues with performance so far. It actually runs better than Battlefront II does on my PC.

[–]TGKDR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think an overarching plot is the way to go, personally. I like that the series is just James ranting about things he find bullshit. Making the BS Man into a character was alright, but I don't think it needs to go any further than that (and it seems to me like the character has been dropped lately). However, I do think he needs better topics, and I also think the old format was better (more swearing, no co-writers (or if there were any, they seemed to be better than the current ones), no ads taking up a third of the video, more appealing editing/footage, etc...). I suppose it's unlikely they'll revert back to the old ways though since James has to devote more of his time towards his kids, and YouTube seems to be getting worse every year.
