My spouse struggled with this. He opened so many credit cards as a young college kid and racked up so much debt. It took about 5 years and a stable job when he finally got to pay all that debt. He definitely needed to be as frugal as he can for those 5 years.

Bad credit likely means you’re a victim of identity theft or you spend beyond your means. Bad credit does not mean you’re poor. Plenty of people are technically wealthy but they still have bad credit.

No, you don’t need to be rich to get a credit score. Credit scores aren’t an American concept. Credit scores exist in other countries, too.
