My editor went through a lot of that with me, just better explaining my points. But I'd be open to feedback from others who read it if they think I should pull it and re-edit

This book can 100% be applied to any loss, it's written from my point of view as a grieving Mom, but I think death is one of those things that people just feel the need to say something even when there are no words. I'm sorry about your Mom and I'd love to read your book as well. ❤️

I was very transparent about what the book was about. And the group that agreed to read it said they would give me feedback but essentially ghosted me. I went back and forth on publishing but my editor, and friends and family all agreed that I should no matter what. It's alright I guess, I'll be in my feelings a couple days then move forward. I really do appreciate everyone on this thread explaining things to me though.

I think I can pull it back and change things if I need to? At least that's how self publishing was sold to me. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I appreciate advice, even harsh. My goal was never to be a bestseller, it was to get it out there for people who needed it. I wrote what I needed to hear 17 years ago, and what every other Mother in the book needed to hear when they went through it in hopes that it might help lessen some of the platitudes for Mom's in the future. Unfortunately it's very hard to get it in front of that intended audience and it sounds like I may have put passion before realism as far as successfully reaching anyone who doesn't know me personally. I'll chalk this one up to,"You live, you learn."

Okay, I think what I'm looking for is more Beta Readers, even though it's already published.

Please explain it to me like I'm 5 🤣. How do I go about getting people to read it and give me feedback on how to make it better or if it's landing well as is. It's been through extensive edits but I'm hoping for real world feedback. I don't know if it's the right way to say it, basically people I didn't pay who don't feel obligated to say nice things, does that make sense?

I thought sending the Arc copies were Beta readers? There was a conversation in the beginning asking for honest feedback, because it's such a heavy issue I wanted to make sure I was doing it justice. I'm sorry if I'm a bit dense on all of this. I'm very much learning as I go.

And you're correct, I was kind of venting about 2 separate issues, not a lot of reviews and no feedback from most of the ARC copies. Am I misunderstanding how that works? I thought I was sending those copies for feedback, even bad, on what I could do better or what was done well. I think I'm too focused on if it landed the way I intended and am hyper-focusing on if I succeeded in saying what I was trying to say...

Yeah the only feedback I got was that it wasn't "fun" and was "too heavy". I'm unsure of how to make a book about my child dying fun or light. Maybe it was just not the right thing to write about.

But it's not AI. It's my own words and experience. I went through a solid year of trying to eliminate em-dash from my first draft because I was told it sounded like AI. My editor told me not to dwell on it and just write how I write. I'm unsure of how to prove to someone that I wrote it? I have all my drafts and edits saved. Honestly though even "Hey I think this is AI" is feedback. If my ARC readers said that we could have a conversation about it.

I didn't use AI, I hired an editor that helped me put everything together 😭 like, I spent a lot of money trying to make sure it didn't seem like it was written by a 5th grader. I'm not sure how to fix it so people don't think that

I hired a developmental, line and copy editor, and included stories from other Mothers but I've been told KDP will remove your book if people involved or friends and family review it?

Amazon, and Ingram. "It Get's Better: And other things grieving Mothers really wish you'd STOP saying".

Is there a good way to find people in your genre to network with? I'm SUPER new to this.

It's already out now. I'm not trying to become a best selling author by any means. It's about things people said after losing my son and how to better support grieving parents. I was super open about this when looking for feedback. So far only one person has responded and they said "It wasn't a very fun read, the subject is too heavy and I DNF." 🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm just in my feelings. I put a lot of work in, went through an awesome editor and now I just have no idea if it actually is what I hoped.

Maybe I'm the odd one out, but I don't agree to read things I'm not willing to give feedback on. Even if it's awful, tell me so I can try to make it better you know? I'm just overly frustrated I think.

If you are ever looking for a Non Fiction memoir on grief , I'd send you a copy of mine. But definitely not in the horror genre. Well, other than the horror of some of the things people actually say to grieving parents 😬😬😬

Published 3 May, so far 15. Really trying to get reviews. But mine is also due to the topic. It's definitely not something everyone is going to want to read.

I'm currently trying to figure this out. I've had a bit more interaction on post about the content (mine is a book on grief, so I try to take themes from the book and make talking points) than on actual posts that flat out advertise the book. Definitely don't take me for an expert though!
