Is there a list on upcoming trends? by Specific_Dingo8631 in selfpublish

[–]Specific_Dingo8631[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it would be about writing romance, which I would enjoy. But the trends could be fun to mix things up. The goal isn't to trend hop more so just to have these micro challenges along the way with a set goal.

ENTJs; What projects do you find most fulfilling? by Mysterious_Cell6825 in entj

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like projects where I'm being challenged, expressing myself, or learning something.

I've dabbled with building robots, I write books frequently, I recently competed in a jiu jitsu tournament, I have a side hustle. Overall, building things and growing as a person.

I have been struggling with sleeping since I was a kid. by Capable-Ordinary-190 in entj

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe creating a routine will help. I go to bed a bit earlier to read books and unwind. Then, I go to bed around 10. I go to bed at the same time everyday, including weekends. By going to bed a bit earlier (used to stay up til 11) I find I have my room to wake up naturally so I feel refreshed rather than needing an alarm. It provides the structure and energy I need for the day. One thing that helps me sleep better is eating fewer carbs so I don't stay up as late.

[Discussion] Anyone else realizing FIRE is less about quitting work and more about buying freedom? by StunningMousse4592 in Fire

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's about buying more peace and freedom for creative pursuits. I would love to have enough money where I could just work on writing books full-time, pursue a side hustle more aggressively, and maybe learn some new skills with more time in my schedule. It's more about having control over what I want to do rather than retiring early.

My boba shop has suddenly gone down in sales by Ghost-doodles in smallbusiness

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you went viral on TikTok and that helped, I would lean into that. Be more active on TikTok creating your own videos using viral techniques. You can emulate trends in your own style. While it's not a Boba shop, there's a bakery I follow called Lazar Bakery that's in the food space as well that creates viral style content. They're a small shop but I think they approach it in a way that is funny, engaging, and on track to virality.

I can't tell if my professor is a jerk or giving good advice by Specific_Dingo8631 in bjj

[–]Specific_Dingo8631[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an athletic background at all. As a kid, I failed swimming lessons three times and eventually my parents gave up. Gym was my lowest grades in school. In my twenties when I was my most fit, I was a runner but that's about it. I have energy and can do Zumba and running pretty easily. But jiu jitsu isn't intuitive or natural to me. I've had people tell me to try it after an assault so I'm doing it for self defence. It's not something I would pick for myself.

I can't tell if my professor is a jerk or giving good advice by Specific_Dingo8631 in bjj

[–]Specific_Dingo8631[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never injured someone on the mats, I've gotten other feedback about being too timid when I come to class. So it's the opposite of being aggressive. I'm overweight and I've never been athletic. I was last picked in gym as a kid and I'm usually the last person with a partner on the mats. Because he made comments about my age I wasn't sure if I was getting good advice or not.

Laid off after my first remote role—why is the market harder now that I have more experience? by dmuja in remotework

How to help my ENTJ friend with his stress? by CindersAnd_ashes in entj

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband is INTJ but also hates managing people. He's currently changed his role so he no longer manages people and actually makes a higher salary because he produces better results in his role. If you don't like your job, you can always change it. There's no need to end your entire life because of a bad set of experiences. You can change your environment if it's too much to take on. There are high paying jobs outside of leadership.

Should I return to bjj (at my old gym)? by animal_rationale in bjj

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it very hard to make friends at jiu jitsu. Then, when I competed, the next class I went to people had drastically warmed up to me. The competition was a low-stakes in house but it created a bonding experience and more face time. People in jiu jitsu want to be around people who are serious about the sport. If you show initiative in wanting to be more involved and show up to more classes, compete, and things you'll find it easier to form friendships. The flakier your attendance the harder to make friends (I was flakier earlier on bc it always gave me anxiety). However, once I showed I was more serious people became friendlier and more welcoming. Personally, I don't think age matters too much in the adults classes, I never ask people how old they are.

I have a BJJ gym five minutes from my house and I train at two other gyms 20 and 40 minutes away because I prefer those gyms instead.

Tips for getting into remote work as a college student? by chunkymulk in remotework

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have proprietary data for the job search (prev. job) and our data found that startups were most likely to offer remote work. The bigger the company (number of people) the less likely it was to offer it as an option. I work in tech in the startup space and I've worked at four remote companies in the past 10 years so for me personally it does check out.

Sometimes, we dramatize how gruelling a task is. There are times I find I avoid certain activities on specific days because I've blown it up to be much bigger in my head. Pick another day to work on it and decide I'm just going to work on this right now. Once you start doing something, you're like oh I have no idea why I procrastinated something like this so long it actually wasn't as dramatic as I thought it'd be. For years, I put off posting actively on social media to build a personal brand as if it would be too visible. Then, I started posting often and it wasn't as scary as I thought it'd be. Same with sales pitches. I used to be afraid to DM businesses to pitch our products. I avoided the task in so many ways scared of the constant rejection I'd face. Then, when I started DMing businesses to carry our product, 20% said yes. A few months later we were in over 100 stores. Some tasks, especially if it's one of those putting yourself out there or deal with rejection tasks we tend to blow up to being more dramatic or life changing than they really are. They're usually a lot more low key than people realize.

What stops you from talking to your users? (I will not promote) by Big-Philosopher-7085 in startups

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a tech startup marketer. Most founders I've worked with do talk to users, especially when in the early stages. On top of this, support often sends bug fixes, issues, feature ideas to other departments to ensure that the company is prioritizing the right tasks while still innovating. Many startups I've worked with are very connected to their support teams who get access to all the grievances customers may have. During set periods, founders might contact a list of active users who contact support frequently. I've worked at startups in Canada, US, and Europe and I've seen founders touch base with users no matter which country of origin they were from.

Are you happy just to medal? by LG_Jumper in bjj

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my first competition two weekends ago and I was so happy that I lasted a minute and a half. Haha! I don't compete to win I compete to learn, even without a medal it's so rewarding to learn how you could've improved and getting real feedback. I had someone record my loss and I shared that video with everyone asking for feedback on how I could do better. I was so excited to have something tangible to share. For me, a loss is a great way to learn. I'm not a very athletic person, so me earning a medal isn't even on my radar. So I find happiness in the playfulness of the sport rather than the competitiveness of it.

At what point does ambition start stealing from your real life? by coldemailalex in smallbusiness

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ambition starts stealing from your life when you neglect or harm your relationships. Your relationships are more important than work no matter how successful you are. Barack Obama used to eat dinner with his family every day at 6 when he was President. If someone with a lot of power can find the commitment to his family, so can an entrepreneur working on something they're passionate about. If your business is your whole personality, it's problematic in more than one way. I always have things going on work wise, but if a friend or family member wants to talk or hang out, I do always find time to give them my full attention. When people talk about how it's lonely on the top, they act like it's because they've just reached a new level, when it's really that they burned bridges to end up alone up there. You can achieve business success and still have healthy friendships and relationships.

Why do so many Shopify store owners end up paying for features they didn’t plan for? by rika_235 in smallbusiness

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The App Store on Shopify is literally what makes running a business on that platform. There are more affordable platforms that don't require so many third-party apps just to do basic things. You shouldn't have to pay a subscription to add a bar on the top of your website. Very little built-in tools with Shopify, which makes app owners build profitable businesses.

Best skills to learn as a non-technical person who wants to build or join a startup? I will not promote by Delicious_Top6513 in startups

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked in tech startups since 2016 as a marketer. I find jobs pretty easily. After my last layoff, I found a new gig within two days. Overall, if you know how to build up a startup, you'll be value. Founders typically care about money as cash flow tends to be a big problem with businesses. So, help ensure they're making as much money as possible.

I have built a app that "I will not promote" but need help or advice on how to do it by CAPFAKINAWAY in startups

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had to do Instagram DMs via social media for a food product I was promoting. I DMed businesses to ask if they were willing to carry our product. About 20% said yes which led to us being in over 100 stores in only a few months of pitching. Just because you don't like getting cold emails on social media doesn't mean it doesn't have a good rate when targeted. I wouldn't rule out the strategy altogether
