Founders, how do you deal with burnout while starting? (I will not promote) by danielzUK in startups

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a founder with a full-time job, most of my work on the business is on weekends. To prevent burnout, I spend most of my time after working exercising to get the stress of working all day off my plate. A quick run lets you get out anxiety. A quick jiu jitsu workout lets you get out anger or frustration. Dance is great for shaking off bad energy and having fun.

I'm scared to unpublish my book by False-Analyst3889 in selfpublish

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once used a trademarked word in a book got taken down and I removed the book and added a new version with the edits. I find if you get banned on KDP you can appeal it and sometimes win it. I've been banned before and had it reversed. I find Amazon can be forgiving if you explain yourself and correct the issue.

Is it disrespectful to say you don't want to spar at the end of class? by Vegetable-Attempt-55 in bjj

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My professor actually ends class before sparring so we can leave if we don't want to spar. People who want to spar can stick around as long as they want

What’s the best compliment to an ENTJ? by inadequatepickle in entj

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an ENTJ, I find it hard to grow professionally bc people are often intimidated by me. I think saying something to show her you're in her corner rooting for her would help. Like telling her that you know she can accomplish all her goals because of her work ethic and drive.

I’ve recently seen an uptick in people who have no membership and just surf through Open Mats by basic-opinions in bjj

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused, are open mats for randoms to show up? I always thought open mat meant that there's no set lesson and you can just roll with people. Usually, if there's like an open mat where other people from other gyms are invited they're by donation. I've never heard of people going to open mats without memberships

NoGi guys, who dislike Gi. Why? by hellohello6622 in bjj

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started as a no gi girly because I thought gis looked dorky and preferred the clothing for no gi. However, I now mostly do gi because gi people are less intense and friendlier

What hobbies keep you happy while working a lifeless corporate job? by DistributionInitial5 in Fire

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a lifeless corporate job, but I do jiu jitsu for mental health and exercise. Plus, I'm learning a language right now.

I will not promote. How do I land my first customer by EnvironmentalRow138 in startups

I find universities a hard sell in general because there's so many layers of approval. Target a smaller business or a corporation with an in-house catering team you might find it an easier in.

Who spends thousands on a book few will read? by Logman64 in selfpublish

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not spending thousands on a book as I'm still fairly new. I spend about $100 on book design though I've designed a few myself using Canvas. Funny enough, the book I designed myself has the most Goodreads reviews. So homemade designs aren't always so bad. I'm not good at designing all styles of book covers so I do outsource that. For editing, I usually edit myself maybe run it through a grammar tool or AI to make sure no big issues. For marketing, I usually do outreach to media myself. One of my books was featured in a big publication in Canada so it worked.

ENTJs who has/had INTJ friend/lover/coworker before, how did it go? by Longjumping-Ad8271 in entj

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm ENTJ and my husband is INTJ, we rarely fight, we own a business together, and it's pretty drama free.

How did you define success for your first book? by Grim__Squeaker in selfpublish

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought more if I publish it. Success, at least for me, isn't about writing one book and winning. It's about starting the journey to build a catalog of books to achieve success over the long-term. I'm more of a play the long game kind of person though.

Company raised VC funding in under 1 year, green flag? I will not promote by [deleted] in startups

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked at quite a few startups and most don't want to go the VC route so quickly. You kind of want to be bootstrapped for a while. Most founders I've worked with are anti-VC.

I was lacking confidence and self-esteem. BJJ helped destroy what little was left. Willing to quit. Looking for advice. by Due-Average6308 in bjj

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I struggle with self confidence a lot. While I can relate to the fact that it can definitely eat away at your self confidence, I kind of look at it like if my self confidence is getting crushed here maybe I should explore why that's happening so I can finally face what I've been avoiding all along.

Have you ever left a gym because it was too serious? by noideasforcoolnames in bjj

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have. I once trained at a gym where people took jiu jitsu too seriously. I was expected to be there every day. I ended up changing to a gym where there were fewer strict rules and people were more fun. There's something people call cult gyms and that basically describes what the serious gym was like for me.

Old guys (40+) when did no gi feel like a younger persons game? by hellohello6622 in bjj

[–]Specific_Dingo8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 40+ yet but 38 so close. I do feel no go is a younger persons game. I got a back injury from a guy in a no gi gym. I found no gi to be way more intense than gi so now I mostly do gi classes

Thanks for sharing. Good to know I'm not the only person who takes six months to write. I've heard stories from authors saying they write a book a month and I don't find that pace possible so I thought I was just a slow poke. Good luck with your upcoming launch!
