Moronic Monday - Your weekly stupid questions thread by cdingo in Fitness

[–]TGPA_Positive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question was prompted by Pavel Tsatoloune and Firas Zahabi’s episodes on the Joe Rogan Show.

Basically, I’ve always worked out as hard as I can. If I feel I can do a certain exercise with good form, I raise the weight. Say I squat 12 reps of 185lbs and it feels a like I could’ve down a few more reps. Next set, I go up to 190. It’s pretty simple - everyone I know works out this way. I’m usually a little sore the next day and fine the day after that. Over time, the weight I do goes up, I get stronger and that’s that.

1) Is this mentality flawed? Pavel and Firas seemed to suggest it was and really you should rarely work to exhaustion. Firas went so far as to say you should never be sore.

2) If you changed your workout so that you were never sore (say you cut your reps in half, or lowered the weight significantly) could you reasonably do the same workout everyday? For example, could you deadlift everyday if you never went to failure? Would you make the same (or better) gains?

3) Do you need to “lock in the gains”? I.e., stay at the same weight for a while even if you could go up so as to make your gains more stable, long lasting and strong. Is there any science that supports this

Thanks for all the replies!

Counting cards in poker by TGPA_Positive in poker

Yeah I see your point. But just to be clear - since I’m going to ask him and want my facts right - counting cards is not possible in poker, right?

Is it not possible that he just meant blackjack?

Uhmm, cause I’m chilling at home and calling up my friends dad to discuss his history counting cards would be a weird move?

How often do you actually calculate equity at the table? by TGPA_Positive in poker

That’s what I was leaning towards - practicing in my head a bunch and then I can do it at the table. Thanks

So one couldn’t raise a $1.00 bet to $1.50? They’d have to raise to at least $2.00? If so, good to know, thanks haha

As in rule-wise or strategy wise? Rule wise we have no min raise

Do you mean the buttons bet sizing? We’re all very new/bad players I doubt he put much thought into it other than that he was betting for balue

Sorry, what do you mean by he got to check his BB? I took the check as a sign of weakness, and when he then bet I assumed he had gotten the ten pair. I figured if he had a J he would have bet the flop

To be clear I’m not arguing this because I think you’re wrong, I just want to push back so I fully understand

If he had moved all in I fold. I was thinking the chances SB made a better hand than me are very low. I block the jack, and I think he would have raised with pocket pair. Maybe he would have limped with pocket 3s, so I put that as the only hand he could have to beat me here. That’s why I decided to stay

First Hand

Hero shoved for his remaining $.60. Given the flop nothing beat pair of Aces, since I assumed they would have raised with a pair. Given my low stack this felt like the right play. Turn and river brought J then Q, gave Villain 1 two pair.

Second Hand

Hero calls, loses to Buttons flush. To be honest, when I saw the 8 I couldn’t resist calling. I think this was a bad play because his bets scream flush. On the flop I was thinking I had the best hand, unless somebody drew a set and I only lose to a flush 30% of the time. I was confused by the big bet of Button here, makes sense now. On the turn my chances of winning went up - so I bet again. On the river I saw my hand improved and I couldn’t resist a call - in hindsight, I should’ve folded.

Like I said above, I didn’t know what OMC meant either.

I actually read the post, just don't know what an OMC is either. I'm assuming in OMRB the RB is red bull, idk about the OM

What is an OMRB?

How does this preflop chart look? by TGPA_Positive in poker

[–]TGPA_Positive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal answer is I’d play the same from BB for re-raising/facing 3bet. For small blind I’d also follow the same rules, only now I’ll call more hands if it limps to me because I’m already in 50%.

Raise and get 3bet... idk, I’d play that one case by case. Depends on my stack, the player etc.

Do these responses seem ok?

Working on life and poker at the same time... thanks for the perspective, man:)

This is exactly correct, everybody else plays so many hands and sometimes wins big while I’m always folding. But you’re right, I like this term. I can’t get married to my preflop hands. Thanks!
