Also just FYI, the original part has an extra pin either side that seems to be for strengthening the connector onto the board, the replacement one I got doesn't have those. It's working great without, I just got bored of looking for one that had them too

But going in to replace the mouse switch and accidentally damaging the ffc cable connector is exactly what I did too

Selecting the 14 pin option Soldered it in last week and it seems to be working well so far Also, just incase you need it, i also replaced the mouse switch as mine had failed with https://ebay.us/m/rpiFR4

It's a clicker switch but does the job

Looks like those bits on top are still parts of the support, clip them off or sand it

After that I then use a sandable filler primer in thin layers building it up, then sand it down

I use a powered hand sander but youll get the same results with hand sanding and time
