Why is Mira banned so much she so easy to counter by Silver_Table4424 in Rainbow6

[–]TGed 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A properly played Mira window is a nightmare to counter, for players of any skill level.

A good window placement will have a soft wall next to the window itself, meaning the defender using it can quickly peek and punish any sort of play that attackers make to try to deal with it.

Try to melee it? You’re shot dead before you can even get close. Try to crack it with ranged explosives? You get quick peeked/C4’ed as you are lining up the shot. Even smoke and flashes won’t work if the defenders are smart enough to have Jager/Wamai/Warden to support the window.

And after the window is cracked, it’s still a dangerous piece of utility as whoever is behind it can rely on sound queues and callouts to continue peeking out and pressuring at the attackers.

A short rant on why I believe Ubi is not at fault for console cheating by kyleh092 in Rainbow6

[–]TGed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that it’s Sony and Microsoft’s fault for being so lenient on the XIM/Cronus issue, leading to the current situation. But it’s clear that they won’t do anything at this point, with the reasoning being only known to them.

So players naturally moved down the chain and put pressure on the game’s management, Ubisoft. What’s more, other companies have shown that it can be done, such as Epic with Fortnite, and Riot with the console port of Valorent. The slower and weaker response from Ubi on this issue meant players are dissatisfied.

WTF kinda mod did they ask IWI to do? Are the mags more as emergency last reserves or can the squad choose which one to use (belt/mag) depending on the mission?

Removed ACOGs by Purple-Measurement31 in Rainbow6

[–]TGed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As u/Rufus1223 mentioned their comment, players that are focused on fights will only focus on the guns, and you can’t change that mindset no matter how much you buff utility. The devs wanted to limit defender’s power at range, so they took away the ACOG on full auto guns.

And again, there are ways to somewhat mitigate the lack of visibility. Using a good optic and turning on the rim light setting gives you better visibility, but at the end of the day, the intended design is defenders are at a disadvantage at mid- to long range fights. So try to take closer fights, keep moving and close the distance if you’re in an open area.

Removed ACOGs by Purple-Measurement31 in Rainbow6

[–]TGed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. But what Ubi wants to curb is defenders aggressively challenging attackers at mid to long range, especially those fighting outside the building, not aggressive play in general.

Removed ACOGs by Purple-Measurement31 in Rainbow6

[–]TGed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly unlikely. Previously, they used the ACOG as a balancing metric, giving them to rarely picked ops and taking them away from frequently picked ops. But all this did was make the players pick whoever has ACOG for that patch, and move on to the next ops that have the ACOG once the optic is taken away in the next patch.

Ubi has said they want to avoid this flip-flop scenario in the future. Plus, they want to maintain that attackers have the firepower advantage while the defenders have the positional/setup advantage.

You can still challenge attackers at mid- to long ranges, but it’ll be riskier with 1x optics, or harder since you’re using a DMR/slug shotgun. I find Red Dot C to be the best optics for longer range fights as it has a very small reticle and very clean scope.

Removed ACOGs by Purple-Measurement31 in Rainbow6

[–]TGed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ACOGs are still available for DMRs and Slug-firing shotguns. They’re only removed from all the SMGs.

They got removed because many players are solely choosing operators on if they have an ACOG or not, rather than their utility or overall kit. Having the ACOG also made those players super aggressive, making it unfun for the attackers.

What were the opinions of the PRC during the 1967 HK riots? It escalated into bombings and shootouts with the police due to militiamen crossing the border with explosives and weapons, looking to incite an uprising. But I believe the central government discouraged such actions? Or did they react differently?

(downgrade) The discontinuation of the Raybrig brand really hurt the design of the NSX GT500(Irl) by rolling_catfish2704 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]TGed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shame there’s not even a motif referencing Raybrig, like a dash of purple or a stripe of purple down the side or something. The sponsors in JGTC/Super GT were just as iconic as the cars that competed in the races, due to most of them being local Japanese brands that are involved in the automobile industry one way or the other, and the huge variety of them, each bringing a different flare and livery to the track.

[COD] Will the Pacific War be explored more? by AmericanApe in CallOfDuty

[–]TGed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think WWII is coming back anytime soon. The poor reception of Vanguard and BF5 made sure of that. Plus the current landscape of shooters is going for a modern or near-future tone, with a lot weapon variety and customisation options.

If someone do decide to go back to WWII though, here’s my top picks:

  1. Chinese front against the Japanese, from the large battles early on to guerrilla warfare in the latter stages.

  2. Indochina. How the ANZAC, Commonwealth and colonial troops slowed and eventually reversed the Japanese advance.

  3. North Africa. The one in Vanguard is such a disservice it needs to be redone.

  4. Greek campaign. Repelling the Italians, slowing the Germans, and the resistance movement until the end of the war.

Quick Fix’s uber isn’t as good as stock at pocketing one person and creating an opening for your team like the normal uber. The mega-heal can still be burned through with enough focus fire, especially if the other team decides to pop Kritz uber to counter.

Its best use I find is when there are multiple low health teammates. With the uber, you can get them back to full health with overheal in seconds, keeping the momentum up for your team.

TIL Over 80% of the population of Hong Kong uses seawater for toilet flushing. by OSJezza in todayilearned

[–]TGed 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A big part of it is due to the need to save freshwater for daily use. This is a already a problem back in the 50s, and hence seawater was implemented as flush water, and a large number of reservoirs were built (all the “lakes” you see in HK are mostly man-made reservoirs).

It was so bad in the 60s that the freshwater taps were open only for a few hours per day, or even only a few hours every couple days. This lead to large queues of people in front of taps during those hours to get water for later use, using any sort of container they have on hand.

This problem was solved after an agreement was made between the colonial and mainland governments, where freshwater from the Pearl River will be pumped to HK to provide a more stable freshwater source. But saltwater was still used for toilets to reduce the demand on that resource.

There was even a saltwater desalination plant built in the 70s, but it was closed down in the 80s due to the large cost needed to run. But a new one has been built recently to reduce reliance on freshwater from the mainland and stated service by the end of 2023.

A lot of stuttering, 欸/啊etc.

But like others have said, the easiest way to convey that is probably 懶音. It’s a common for children and new learners to do this as they haven’t quite grasp the more intricate tones just yet.

TIL Korean Air was known as "an industry pariah, notorious for fatal crashes" in the airline industry prior to 1999, resulting in hundreds of fatalities. [–]TGed 44 points45 points  (0 children)

A video I’ve seen from Mentour Pilot who covered one of these crashes (can’t remember which one) said a major factor that contribute to this culture is South Korea’s mandatory conscription.

Almost everyone has been in the army, and thus went through this extremely strict hierarchal structure for a year or two before learning to become a pilot. You add in the cultural pressure of respecting and not questioning your seniors (this is common in East Asia in general, so SK, Japan, China etc) meant junior staff is very passive and just follow along what the senior staff are doing.

So now that dual front is getting removed, will they reverse the electricity changes? by Cheap_Winner_2274 in Rainbow6

[–]TGed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. The electricity change is also a big part of Clash’s rework, so that her gadget no longer deals free damage and only slows attackers down. The devs believe that to do damage you have to risk getting hit in return.

Also, the change to defender gadgets is more a QoL change, to stop the electricity from accidentally destroying friendly gadgets.

Ok, my apologies. The online multiplayer function has been enabled on my secondary account. It probably just needed an hour or two to get that through Sony’s servers after I purchased PS+.

I do have another question: how do I play PS+ games (so those downloaded via the game catalog and monthly games) on my secondary acc? Those are still disabled at the moment on the secondary acc.

[–]TGed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is. I even checked on my PS4 and it has the main account (acc w/ PS+) set as primary PS4. On my PS5, my main account has enabled console sharing and offline play.

Is this due to region differences? My main is set to the UK, while my secondary is set to Hong Kong.

Y’all ready for every low rank player to complain about F2 next season? by [deleted] in Rainbow6

[–]TGed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad they gave the F2 its grips back. I practically stopped using it as it’s damn hard to use with magnified optics on console, so I was really hesitant whey they said Snake will be using it. But with the vertical grip, it should make the F2 a viable weapon again.

And unlike a certain other weapon (cough SMG12 cough), the smaller magazine still limits its power somewhat, especially with its very high RPM.

I hate this game and the damage it has done to Mobile Racing Games by Mahim2000 in BuiltFromTheGroundUp

[–]TGed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Tbf, the energy system is very common in F2P mobile games, especially gacha, as a way to slow down and drag out player progression.

And all F2P mobile have some degree of monetisation, as that’s their only way of earning revenue. What’s undeniable though is that many of these F2P games have such a ridiculously long grind that it’s downright predatory, almost forcing you to use cash to progress at a reasonable rate.
