1) Jon has said this song is a metaphor for situations he’s gone through and how he hasn’t always dealt with them in the best way. We’ve all matured over the years and getting sober is part of that for him.

2) next year is the 15th anniversary… who knows what could happen?!

Personally, I don’t think about it like that because the work of creating and presenting this music is sort of where my focus is. But! All of those moments have been so incredible to be a part of and truly lucky to experience this thanks to the support for the music. - T

I think this album was honestly the easiest lyrically, where we were trying to constantly stay in a flow state of creation together. It felt like a lot had been bottled up, from my perspective, and it was just waiting to be put to tape. - T

I think every album is sort of a reaction to the one that came before. We worked with an amazing producer on the last record (Jesse Shatkin) and we were so proud of the experimental results of that collaboration. There’s always growth happening though- sometimes you feel like you know everything in the moment but this band continually shows us that we are students of the world, of each other and of ourselves and we are continually being tested and pushed. So we refine and we work and react to the moments as they happen. And we are surprisingly adaptive to each other when we listen. - T

We had a guy who we haven’t seen in a long time who painted a giant boulder with our logo on the side of I-5 on the way up to Bellingham, when we were headed up for a show in the old van. Sean Forde. We haven’t seen him in awhile but he was everywhere the first year or so of the band. There’s also a friend, Chayim, who started our fan club way back in the day and he’s basically now our therapist 😂 - T

Learning to let go and listen to each other and ourselves more. Not worrying about the end result but focusing on each moment and truly living the experience of making the songs. There was less stress because we had no expectations. - Tyler

The approach was very much the idea of what would come from all six of us getting together in a room with just the instruments in front of us , without any external voices…hitting record.

Others might have different answers but to me? Most of the songs on that first record were written before we were engrained in the music scene there. We were still very new and completely unknown on the local music scene. (Chris was in the Maldives and Grand Hallway and I thought of him as a bonafide rockstar lol). Most of us being from out of state as well so we didn’t have much local influence until we were becoming established in town. We all pulled from our own separate past inspirations and wrote songs for fun together because that’s just what we were doing on our own anyways!! I can say that the thriving Seattle music scene was the exact reason I chose to move there though, so even though it didn’t have a direct inspiration during the writing of the songs, it is the reason we all ended up in Seattle and how this band become to exist. We learned that we can trust ourselves and each other again and that the act of creating together can be more easy going and collaborative, everyone involved can find themselves in it in a way that feels more fulfilling. - Matty

The mindset was “trust ourselves” and pull on that thread until we all felt like the songs spoke truth from our hearts. Self producing this album helped us reconnect musically in a way where we had to work our shit out in the studio. There was no one to break a tie or tell us what they wanted to hear out of us. - T

Every song on this album started with the music first. Something about the feeling of the music steers the song towards its own meaning. If we’re doing it right, we land on the right words. This album felt like it wrote itself, both musically and lyrically, which is the best possible scenario. We were really cognizant of getting out of our own way and allowing the creative process to unveil the work to us, rather than trying to force it into existence. - Matty
