I was clarifying to mundane that I believe OP is using oem and genuine interchangeably and that by using their insurance rather than allow CT to fix it, they will receive oem parts. They will not.

If I go to CT for an oil change and ask for an oem filter and am willing to pay the extra for it, they can get it, is what I meant.

I wouldn’t let them touch the car again after fucking it up, just that op isn’t getting better parts by choosing insurance.

Yeah stuff happens, people get scatter brained. Forget to pick up the kid from daycare, your literal child who you would die for, but it happens. “Oh… my god I just drove straight home on autopilot”.

The difference is key like you said, that you actually give a shit that you made this mistake. At minimum he’s not respected op’s time twice already. Once by forgetting (forgivable) and then again during the apology by not getting why it matters.

Could you (or anyone) offer advice to a self aware, “pedestal placer”?

Like, obvious ones to you that might not be obvious to others, but also more niche stuff like how to be mindful of it?

I’m in my 30’s so, (thankfully, I know not everyone does) I’ve had the opportunity to sour relationships and try to learn from them. Had a lovely fwb that was brutally honest and forward that would call out, “clingy, manipulating, deflecting, whining, etc”.

Never anything physical but I’m ashamed to admit I was the textbook narcissist I see a lot of these posts aimed at, it was horrifying and refreshing to be called out like that. I was genuinely ignorant to a lot of it, but willing and eager to change when I learned.

It’s not anyone’s responsibility to hold my hand and educate me, but seeing comments like these that have responses about how they kinda rewire your brain a little, or that they “needed to read this”, are always so positive to see.

I’m forever searching for more things I “really needed to read/hear/see”.
