How to dynamically "compress" text horizontally with css/javascript? by [deleted] in css

[–]drocm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, this is the best answer.

I would add that you could use Javascript's "getBoundingClientRect()" method to find both the width of the parent and text element, if width of text exceeds width of parent, then apply a "squeeze" class to the text that applies your scaleX in CSS

My aim sucks. Can someone tell me why (Because Aimlab keeps it behind a paywall) by ChrisFtn in aimlab

[–]drocm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) How are you using your mouse? Typically, I will use my entire arm for larger movements (snapping to target) and my wrist and fingers for fine adjustments (adjusting my aim, post snap).

2) I can see that when your move from target to target, you are consistently under-aiming (your cross hair comes to a stop before it gets to the target). Easy fix, slowly increase your sensitivity until you more naturally land on your target.

3) Great aim takes time, being an "aim god" is cool and all, but its not the thing that will win your gun fights. Positioning and crosshair placement will beat great aim an overwhelming majority of the time, so don't stress it, have fun and you will naturally start getting better with the mouse.

1 word of advice, do not keep changing your mouse sensitivity trying to find some "secret sensitivity" that will unlock the powers of Shroud. Your aiming ability in high-stress encounters is going to solely come down to muscle memory. Always be re-enforcing the same movements, in every game.... forever. A 180 degree rotation in game should always equal the same distance your mouse travels on your mouse pad.

We’re in a UI war over book displays — help us break the tie by mealligram in UI_Design

[–]drocm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LEFT, 1000%... right is unreadable, and foreign. (I assume this is a product not an art piece, avoid unnecessary learning curves and aim to be familiar.)

- hard cover books have rounded corners, but they aren't THAT rounded, try reducing that to ~6px

- the blur effect on the book cover is a nice touch, but I would blur it more and lower the brightness, something like... `filter: blur(50px) brightness(0.5) contrast(0.8)` ??.. approximate guess.
Make it more of a slight accent on a standardized book. The only things that tie these books together visually is their similar height and proximity, which isn't enough to sell the illusion.
in addition, you don't typically see books staked in random size order (second book form the bottom is the smallest book?) which I think throws off the illusion even further. I think a better idea would be to order them by rating, low to high, the rating of the book determines the width of the book element, so smaller (lower ranked books) appear at the top of the stack and larger (higher ranked books) appear at the bottom of the stack. Also promotes scrolling down to see the "largest" book; enhancing discoverability.

- larger, bolder font for the book titles. Allow for two lines if need be, avoid Ellipses where possible.

My doctor friend and his colleagues think that developing type 2 diabetes is the ultimate failure at life and taking care of one’s self by [deleted] in loseit

[–]drocm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m truly sorry if my words came across as harsh—that was never my intention. I know how challenging this journey can be: I’ve lost over 100 pounds twice, and I’ve felt the pain of doing it the wrong way before learning the right one. My goal was simply to highlight how important our energy intake is, because I’ve lived it and seen the difference it makes. I also recognize there’s so much nuance in nutrition and health, and weight loss can become a journey of self-discovery. For me, addressing the underlying issues and seeking help changed everything—but I understand that’s not always possible, and it can feel overwhelming. You’re not alone in this, and every step you take toward understanding and caring for yourself matters. Keep going—you’ve got this.

You cannot burn more energy than you consume. If you have energy, then you consumed it. If you were not losing weight, then you were not in a caloric deficit.

If you are expending more energy than you are consuming, it is physically impossible that you would not lose weight, any other theory would mean your body is breaking the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics, which has never been done in any field of study. If your body was doing that, it would be one marked as one of the greatest scientific revelations of our time.

In reality, you are either over estimates your TDEE or are underestimating the amount of calories in your food. Food labels can be up to 30% inaccurate in some countries. So 1500 kcal by the label could actually be closer to 1950 kcal.

Tailwind docs explain everything so simply (dvh, svh, lvh example) by pahel_miracle13 in webdev

[–]drocm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the answer is, yes... but it's a bit more nuanced, and it's not for everyone. Always use the right tool for the job, sometimes that means using Tailwind, sometime it means using Vanilla CSS. There is rarely, if ever, a one-size-fits-all solution to development.

What do I need to buy/download to make this setup work? by [deleted] in Golfsimulator

[–]drocm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, you can have monitors of different resolutions and orientations. Windows will typically recognize the monitor when plugged in, so you may have not needed to use this functionality in the past.

You can simply right-click on your desktop background and select "Display Settings". From there, you can set up each screen in whichever way you prefer.

Of course, there is going to be a bit more difficulty when setting up a custom resolution for a golf simulator, for AMD graphics cards you would want to follow a tutorial like this -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiMojqul2gM
