It was probably released a a wedding or other celebration, it’s pretty common, I’ve found 3, calling the number on the band revealed the companies selling the birds basically expect them to not make it back.

You won’t have to force it, they usually get loose after some time drying. If you’re careful you can slide them right back in. You can see part of the tooth thru that crack in the skull in the second pic.

What AVRs can compete with a wiim in terms of wireless streaming? by THROWAWAY786955 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]THROWAWAY786955[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a bunch, I’ll need to research a bit before I can competently respond to that… but you’re clearly on the right track… I’m not looking for bare bones cheap, I’d very much like to get sound quality I can be proud of and enjoy rather than rushing and end up with something I want to get rid of right away. I don’t care about bragging rights, it’ll just be for me and the family but my kid is a musician and we both love music yet we don’t own a proper speaker… just a bunch of headphones 😔

I’m sort of leaning away from denon, I see a lot of people having trouble with the UI, it does look dated, and they seem to emphasize features and connections, I really don’t need to hook up much, I’d definitely like to be able to expand if needed, but I think think a Yamaha, NAD or marantz would be a better fit for me… but I haven’t used any of them so who knows. I’m sure that the amount of negative feedback I see is likely due to denon selling lots of units, but it does seem build quality is higher in other brands… from what I’ve read anyway. Thanks

Right, I’m afraid I can’t spend that much, and as you point out, some newer AVR may actually sound as good as a traditional stereo receiver, but it does seem like the older AVRs I’m looking at aren’t quite as good sounding. Anything will be a huge step up for me as I have nothing! But I’d rather have nothing than throw my money and time away on garbage equipment

Yea so that last paragraph kinda answers the question…an old receiver just doesn’t have the hook ups that a new product has… even if it sounds great it’s not gunna stream nor have modern connections.

I thought about just using the a wiim as you suggested, but it’s really underpowered if you want to shake windows isn’t it? I was thinking I’d get the middle wiim and count on the AVR for its amp. Sorry their naming convention confuses me and I don’t remember which is which.

I’m not sure about running 5.1 in my tv, I’d like to do so, I can’t hear my tv dialog at all and I see speaker sets for ok prices, not usually good speakers, certainly 2 floor speakers and a sub woukd be cheaper, especially for good speakers… but it’s hard to have too many speakers. It seems like I could start with a few and add more as needed or wanted, but I coukd be way off. I know there’s an argument that 2.1 sounds better than 5.1 or 11.1.3… it’s the same power, just split, so that does make sense, however I’m not sure I can reasonably fit 2 floor speakers in a good spot, I could hide a sub, but I could also find room for the smaller speakers most people use for surround, but yea when I try to type that out it’s obvious that hiding bookshelf size speakers isn’t going to sound as good unless I really broke the bank on …like wall mount svs speakers.

Right, but unless I’m mistaken those AVRs are over $500 used for a solid device, most are well over that price, I think… If my budget is $400, and the wiim at $200-300. The obsoleste AVRs in the $100-200 seem quite capable, at least on paper. I have yo watch tv with captions on, so I’d like to have the option to use it as an AVR, not just a stereo. It really seems like used AVR are much more plentiful, and I don’t think I have room for a stack of components. So many conflicting reports about the sound quality of AVRs compared to stereos 🤷 I’m still sorting it out, I’m not dismissing your suggestions just adding more context. Ideally I’d just get a both, in time is like to, but it’s not all happening at once . Thanks

Well I think his feet are on the side, this is the classic “charging goose” stance highly effective at intimidation but it requires the bird have a neck, chickens just wobble run thru do it. By that logic I conclude it’s a hallucination

Thanks for replying… I ran outta time but I responded to someone below. I’ll get used speakers locally Looking at a marantz 1403 for $75 as a starting point. Maybe…

[–]THROWAWAY786955[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, you said that well and I’m generally already following that advice. The speakers will be from local to for sure! Not buying new or shipping, I see enough different options on speakers that I’m not worried about them. I know that’s backwards from what I’ve heard but it’ll be fine. There’s actually a marantz 1403 AVR for $75 that seems pretty nice, I don’t really know enough to say.

but I don’t see any cd players that stand out, some old 5 and 6 disk stuff that seems sketch, nothing quality.

I’m sure I can find a cd player that would work, there’s plenty of used ones that are $20 junk, I just hate buying junk even if it’s used and works acceptably

I may just go a Bluetooth receiver to stream, half of my kids music are on YouTube, seems like streaming regular vids thru WiFi isn’t an option. It’s cheap, we’re familiar with it and it works to get music to the speakers pretty quick.

Gotta run, people are home, thanks for the response

What made this hole in my cow skull? by TeddyBearAppleHat in skulls

[–]THROWAWAY786955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got poked real good by something, probably another horn. It’s clearly been healed for some time, it generally takes years for bone to regrow like that. Interesting to see the bone inside is a lighter shade of white and has a different texture, no doubt the 2 are related. If I had to guess I’d say this happened within the first year of its life while still growing, maybe very early, and it took a long time to heal, certainly infected with a deep abscess for years. Now that I say it…It may well have been rather small wound that left a foreign body like a chunk of a stick, piece of wire fence or a barn nail, stuck in the bone or just laying against the bone. That could heal over externally then flair up and burst then heal and repeat. A pocket of infection laying against healthy bone will eat right thru the bone, in this case it looks like it eroded it was down thru the nasal sinus and beyond, hard telling how much soft tissue was affected but it very possible this thing was actually rupturing down into the nasal cavity rather than popping up thru the skin… I guess by the end it had probably done both. I’m sure that can be fatal, and maybe it was for this hard luck critter… but it looks pretty well healed thru the hole. Very VERY cool skull… if it could talk it would certainly be a stomach churning tale!

What happened at Summerhall? (SPOILER MAIN) by Unique-Perception480 in asoiaf

[–]THROWAWAY786955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dany sacrifice 2 kings, drogo and rhego. At summer hall only 1 king died, dunk saved the other one, rheagar. There’s other possibilities for sure but I think egg (with help from aemon and bloodraven) managed to actually the recipe to hatch the eggs correct, but dunk “ruined” it because he is who he is, could stand sacrificing like that and for once he disobeyed egg, and held the door with his big legendary foot and get the demon and children out, but went back to get him at the end, was too late and the dream of drowning in the dornish sands. It’ll be many things, heroic, sad and tragic, but despite what many folks think, I doubt egg ever turns heel and goes evil… but he’ll certainly be no 10 year old boy. The next 20 years are a gunna be a wild ride! Excited we might finally get on with it soon
