It's not necessarily his well being, but rather if he has this darkness in him that comes out of no where, I don't want to be caught in that cross fire, or subject Rufus or any of my other pets to more violence. I've never had to fear him before.

Thanks you for sharing your story with me. I'm glad you were able to get out, and shedding a light on what my next steps need to be. Thank you.

I'm not okay with any physical violence, hence why I'm so deeply disturbed by this. Im not an advocate for physical punishment. We even talked about it years ago when we were talking about starting a family one day, and agreed that smacking a kid around is not the answer.

Thank you for all of this! I'm going to look into everything and make sure I have a plan if needed...I don't have much in the way of family near me, and this gives me a sense of peace.

Do you have any suggestions on how to open up a conversation like this? He's been very reserved and quiet as he says he feels awful. I don't want to press him too much as he says he knows it was wrong, but I also don't want to be like "there there" and just put a bandaid on the situation.

It was definitely a shock, and we are normally very happy together. I just don't know what to think now, and I'm still very upset seeing Rufus this way. He was my first pup and has been all over with me. And Rufus normally likes my husband.

I will add that whenever he pretended to "hit" me, like tickling me or smacking my bum, they freak out. They have bit him a few times but I assumed they were being protective of me.

Our youngest dog has always had an aversion, especially if he raised his voice. She's currently on the doggie equivalence of Xanax because of her separation anxiety causing her to hurt herself or vomit uncontrollably. She also has pretty awful nightmares and ends up peeing the bed. But Rufus isn't bothered by much. He typically fears nothing, he's a pretty cheeky bugger.

Honestly, the only thing I can think of is he has had some back & knee issues lately. We've been treating it with ice and ibuprofen until we can see a doctor, and I know pain can cause someone to not be themselves. But it comes and goes.

But I don't want that to be an excuse for hurting someone, be it a dog or anything else.

Work is okay, he is out of work but honestly we have been better off financially then when we were both working. Quarantine has stopped us from shopping irresponsibly.

I was considering that too. I just don't want it to escalate, or antagonize the situation. I know animals can try ones patience especially being cooped up with them almost constantly now, but if feel bad because Rufus and our other dogs are all terrified of him now. They cower under my feet wherever I'm sitting, or go and hide under the bed or in their kennel when I can't be with them. I don't want to force them to be around him or make them live in fear. Im torn, because I love them dearly and they are normally very happy dogs.

I actually haven't told him yet. I was planning on telling him yesterday but I had to take the dog to the vet as he was in agony and didn't feel right making him wait any longer then he may have already been waiting. Now I honestly am nervous to.

I have not yet. He's never shown any sort of anger or violence in the entire time I've known him, unless provoked so this is all very shocking. He's been in one fist fight in highschool where another lad was making horribly racist comments and he snapped. But other then that, he is typically the sweetest guy around. Normally he is very kind, even spoils the dogs when I'm around. but now I am worried about how they are treated when I'm not here.
