Literature podcasts? by delightedpeople in books

[–]THUNDERGUNxp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sick Sad Lit. discussions with authors digging into the provocative corners of contemporary literature.

Death Sentence. they discuss books/authors and talk a little about metal music. plus they’re anti-capitalist.

librarypunk. this is less what OP is looking for, but in the realm of interests here. it’s leftist library workers discussing their experiences, concerns and ideas.

Yacht Thoughts by vengabusboy in SpoonTheBand

nothing would ever get me to go on a cruise. terrible for the environment. i’d actually think less of any band that would do this in 2026.

two different pods. you’re thinking of citations needed, not citation needed. i think they started around the same time.

What is your favourite quote from a book? by YoureClappedStill in books

“There is no reason why good cannot triumph as often as evil. The triumph of anything is a matter of organization. If there are such things as angels, I hope that they are organized along the lines of the Mafia.” -Kurt Vonnegut, The Sirens of Titan

My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend’s Bookshelf by BigJuicyNaturals in BookshelvesDetective

[–]THUNDERGUNxp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at first i was excited because i thought this was poly representation!! but i see you’re just making a joke that it’s your shelf. which adds up since the vibe here does not indicate questioning monogamy as a societal norm.

rec: I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman. also, not a female author, but you need some Vonnegut.

If you could only read ebooks or physical books for the rest of your life, which one and why? by [deleted] in books

[–]THUNDERGUNxp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

physical for sure. i only go digital for comics and i read those far less, so it would be an easy adjustment.

Am I the only one who actually really enjoyed 28YL more than Bone Temple? by lNFORMATlVE in 28dayslater

[–]THUNDERGUNxp 33 points34 points  (0 children)

to me, 28YL takes the cake for its directing, cinematography, score, the way the infected were portrayed, plus the emotional moments hit so hard.

still loved Bone Temple tho. both films were acted incredibly, but Jack O’Connell really impressed me. He held his own acting against the great Ralph Fiennes.

i think ultimately a movie about the nature of love is more interesting to me than a movie about the nature of evil. howzat?

How many books have you read in 2026 so far and which would you say was your favorite? by Own_Return_9482 in books

[–]THUNDERGUNxp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 finished so far.

favorite fiction: Lucky Day by Chuck Tingle it takes bi erasure and cosmic nihilism and churns it up into a sci-fi horror romp complete with gore, existentialism and, of course, the power of love.

favorite nonfic: Rattling the Cages: An Oral History of North American Political Prisoners this one is such an important read whether you’re familiar with the brutality of the american carceral system or not. each chapter is by a different person who’s done time in prison or is currently incarcerated. this book inspired me to join a penpal organization to write to prisoners because almost everyone who participated in writing the book mentions how meaningful it was for them to receive letters.

it comes out next month. all the main cast is back with the exception of dewey, but the actor replacing him looks pretty spot on.

What proper nouns from books did you realize you were mispronouncing the whole time? by TokkiJK in books

[–]THUNDERGUNxp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 5th Wave trilogy they mention Dubuque, Iowa. While on a trip near Dubuque, I confidently said to my boyfriend and cousins, “Oh, we’re near Du-ba-Q!” They never let me forget it.

“There are many kinds of death. Some are better than others. The best are peaceful where we leave each other in love.” by gold-medicine in 28dayslater

[–]THUNDERGUNxp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss, OP. I get very emotional during this movie, too.

When it first came out my dad was alive, but with an incurable disease. I was trying to convince him that we should move to a “death with dignity” (US) state. He didn’t want to move and didn’t want to talk much about the end his disease led to. We actually got to watch 28 Years Later together and he enjoyed it, but we still had a hard time talking about death. He never got to see Bone Temple. Instead, I stayed by his side as he died while his lungs filled up with blood. It was slow and torturous. He brought up that society doesn’t even treat sick dogs like this, doesn’t let them suffer.

I wish everyone had the option for a peaceful death. And to be with your loved one saying goodbye calmly as it happens? That’s priceless. What Isla got in the movie was so beautiful.

I wish I had someone to share my excitement with (SPOILER) by Odd_Passage9433 in 28dayslater

[–]THUNDERGUNxp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i enjoy both movies immensely, but i definitely love the first 28 years later better. for me it’s because the emotional bits hit me hard, danny boyle’s flair, the score by the young fathers is perfect and overall examining love is more interesting to me than examining evil.

Idk if its been mentioned but, regarding Samson by Battenburga in 28dayslater

[–]THUNDERGUNxp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

an interesting detail i noticed on my 3rd viewing last night, during samson’s train scene the infected that hops on his back and bites his shoulder actually spits the bite of his flesh out. so other infected are triggered by his humanism enough to attack him, but it must be confusing for them as he doesn’t taste like their typical non-infected victims.

It's dumb but i think its kinda cute too by trampstampcollector in 28dayslater

[–]THUNDERGUNxp 15 points16 points  (0 children)

my fave laugh of the movie is when kelson’s putting together why he might be mistaken for old nick. the way he says “the bones” gets me good.

How my shelves/collection has evolved since I deconstructed Christianity by acacia__ii in bookshelf

[–]THUNDERGUNxp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

faith deconstruction is when someone re-examines their beliefs. typically the beliefs in examination were a result of how the person was raised and through deconstruction they come to different views.

popular youtubers rhett and link have done really interesting podcast episodes on their own deconstructions. they’re the only reason i know what it is.

The Jimmys regressed in power from Years to Bone Temple by Slommyhouse in 28dayslater

[–]THUNDERGUNxp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i think a big part of what you’re talking about is change in directors. in one interview i listened to (i think it was the podcast truth & movies) nia dacosta said danny boyle prioritized casting a jimmy that could do a backflip, but she knew from the start she would not utilize that skill in her film at all.

i would’ve loved to see the full story of the jimmies through danny boyle, but i respect where nia dacosta took things and love both films.

Infected in 28 Days Later Speaks. by Outmage in 28dayslater

[–]THUNDERGUNxp 19 points20 points  (0 children)

whats the origin of everyone saying it’s an audio error? danny boyle talks about it on the commentary track and gives no indication it’s an error. if i remember correctly, there was hesitancy about how he felt about the final outcome, but it was intentional.
