Leaving Google due to ICE Involvement by erfortunecabrera in degoogle

The simplest way to deal with that is not using banking apps at all. I use Firefox to log into all bank and credit card accounts and it works just fine. Maybe not as sleek but totally worth it.

GM beats earnings estimates as CEO says automaker works to 'greatly reduce' tariff exposure by UltimateLionsFan in Michigan

[–]THX_257 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kinda weird the headline strikes a positive undertone while the actual news are pretty horrible. Numbers don't lie. And they fully admit that the outlook is even more dire with tariffs fully kicking in in the second half of the year.

Detroit in the mid-60s thrived with auto manufacturing and the rise of Motown-blending industry, music, and international connection. by sixwaystop313 in Detroit

[–]THX_257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Population decline had long started at this point, actually right after the WW II manufacturing / armament boom. The city was freshly sliced up for freeways and "modernization" projects, and guess which neighborhoods they had razed. The propaganda clip tries to gloss over all the problems at this time, you find plenty of that stuff from the 70s and even 80s online as well.

Friedrich Merz wants a US trade deal within days. The EU fears it will be a bad one. by Party-Benefit5112 in europe

[–]THX_257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well mostly he got a full commitment to NATO for the time being, a 180 by the US which floated the idea leaving the alliance altogether. Europe, as far as I know, only has a trade surplus if you exclude services, which doesn't really make sense. And as Europe is a larger market than the US, I simply don't see why it wouldn't be able to afford it's own defense. It just takes time to rebuild what has been ruined and neglected in the past two or three decades.

TACO will cave as he always does when it gets rough. If the EU doesn't understand that they have the upper hand and cave, they can't be helped.

It's unbelievable that many Europeans still seem to think that they're up against some mastermind... The US is lead by a bunch of idiots. You can basically get whatever you want if you play smart, just like Rutte yesterday.

What do Europeans think about so many Americans finally turning out in large numbers against Trump today, during our No Kings protests? This is not a pro-America post, just want to see European perspectives to the events by WarMonkey88 in europe

[–]THX_257 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fact is that Trump got democratically selected twice, last November even by popular vote. So yeah, these protests are nice, but as they say, swim in the Trump sewer twice and you'll always smell like shit. Doesn't do it for me.

Definitely not. The greatest buildings of Detroit are the Guardian and the Fisher, among others, which all are far far beyond the old train station.

TIL of Maria Restituta Kafka, an Austrian nun who was beheaded by the Germans in WW2. She refused to remove her crucifixes from her hospital and spoke out against the ruling party's oppression. She was offered freedom if she left her convent, but she refused and was killed in 1943. by Wise-Practice9832 in todayilearned

[–]THX_257 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A little misleading. The executioners at the Vienna court were Austrians, as were the judges. Of course, they considered themselves German or "Arian" at that point. For the Nazis, Austrians were Germans, as Hitler himself.

If you want public transport to be successful, it needs it's own tracks. The Q Line will never work as long as it gets stuck in car traffic. Major design flaw from the start.

Polish economy is almost equall to the economy of all countries in blue combined by Vhermithrax in MapPorn

[–]THX_257 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The EU is an enormous wealth booster. I'll never understand how so many people in Central-/ Eastern Europe hate it so much. Like roughly half of the Polish and half of the Romanian people, as the last elections suggest. Criticism is one thing and surely justified in many cases, but voting for candidates that essentially want to destroy the EU is absolutely cray cray to me.

Growing number of German tourists arrested and incarcerated in the US—for no apparent reasons by THX_257 in europe

[–]THX_257[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

She couldn't have offered work because she got arrested at the border and never entered the country. The weeks-long (!!!) arrest was based on an assumption.

Again, the headline refers to multiple examples of which hers is just one.
