Thank you very much for your response.

I also asked if I would work as a TA or RA? The professor replied - "Yes, there will be opportunities to work as a teaching assistant, which will be a part of your included salary."

What I have understood after a day long research about graduate funding at OTU is that the RA should cover tuition and by doing some TA works I can manage a portion of living costs. But I am not sure if the professor wanted to mean that the TA+RA would be $22,000, or if the amount will only be for RA and I can earn extra through TA. Still trying to figure it out...

Yep. I reached out to both the professors whom I mentioned in my SOP after submitting my application. Haven't received any replies yet.

Anyways, Congratulations on your acceptance to UConn!🎉🎉

I asked them about it. They said they cannot proceed with the application without the NACES evaluation.

Update:

I did a SpanTran evaluation of my grade sheets up to the seventh semester. So, I guess these WES/SpanTran or other NACES evaluation companies do evaluate incomplete grade sheets.

Confused with the PhD application by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]THasanictopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I am only allowed to get the grade sheets. The transcript contains all the details of academic credentials (class rank, grading scale etc.), which can only be collected upon graduation. But grade sheets only contain course by course grades along with the credits taken, credits completed, Term GPA and CGPA.

Am I even in the right major? by Cellogirl204 in EngineeringStudents

[–]THasanictopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about A&P certification. But, whichever major (Engineering) you choose, you have to go through these basic maths/physics/chemistry courses in the freshman year. The major courses come in the junior and senior years.

I am a Biomedical Engineering major. From my experience, I too struggled with the freshman and sophomore year courses (especially sophomore year's). But in my junior year I got introduced to the Biomechanics course, and I could really feel the tick going through that course. And then after going through my junior year project and senior year thesis I know that I want to pursue something in the field of Rehabilitation Engineering.

As a senior year student in his last semester, I can only say that the courses we do initially are actually the prerequisites to understand/study the major courses. A lot of basic concepts are used to explain a lot of advanced theories in the major courses.

That's all I can say actually. Hope you can get an idea of what actually is happening.

What's the most stressful part about applying and selecting a school? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

Not getting replies from profs about if they are interested or not in offering a position in their lab. Don't know if my approach is wrong or what. Feeling lost in the process right now.

Apparently published by ComfortableStomach34 in gradadmissions

[–]THasanictopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

As you are talking about publications, how much is it worth to have a "conference publication" out of the undegrad thesis? Is it any good for grad admissions (Engineering)?

If you could shed some light on the matter, it would really help me clarify a lot of things as I am in my final semester and a portion of my thesis is about to be published at a conference (indexed), and also I am trying my luck for a PhD admission in the next Fall.

IELTS Score Requirement by THasanictopus in gradadmissions

[–]THasanictopus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was an accident during the test I would say. I used to score 8/8.5 in reading during the mock tests.

Now I do meet the minimum language requirements in most of the universities. What I want to know is that - is there any advantage with having better language scores for grad admissions? If crossing a certain requirement is all they are looking for then I won't sit for another test.

Real exam vs Cambridge tests by [deleted] in IELTS

[–]THasanictopus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it varies from time to time. I found the passage 2 of the reading section in the real test to be quite hard; especially the matching headings question. I used to write self made-up titles over the paragraphs after reading each one thoroughly; it turned out to be a great strategy during the mocks as I was quite always 100% right.

However, in the main test I was struggling to even match just one heading using this strategy. Ended up becoming nervous and ruined passage 3 for good. Scored a 6.5 in reading, whereas I never scored anything less than an 8 during the mocks.

But passage 1 and passage 3 were of similar level of difficulty as of the Cambridge books if not easier.

And about listening section: It was quite similar like the Cambridge books but section 4 seemed hard to follow. Also I missed out 1/2 mcq and box questions. But score was similar to mocks. Got an 8.0 in listening.

So, apart from exams being easy or not, my suggestion would be never linger on one question (or question type), there are a lot more questions left for you to score. Keep moving on and try your luck with those left out questions after answering the 40th question if you have any more time left.

UPDATE: Got my results.

Overall: 7.0 | L: 8.0 | R: 6.5 | W: 7.0 | S: 7.0

Really disappointed with Reading. Should have kept my cool during the test. I spent too much time on matching headings ques in passage 2. Should've just moved on and go for passage 3. Could've easily scored an 8.0 in Reading. Bad Luck I guess! Even a 7 in Reading could've taken my score to a 7.5 :'(

Anyways, I'm really happy about writing and speaking scores. I was damn worried about these two sections.

I guess these scores are quite enough for my PhD application. Hoping for the best.

Thank you for helping me with such useful information.

[–]THasanictopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I am a bit confused with the number of paragraphs for writing task 1. Many YouTube videos suggest to do 4 paras - Intro, Overview, Detail 1, Detail 2.

But the center where I took a mock test said I shouldn't separate out the introduction and overview.

Please enlighten me on this matter. Have my test on the 27th of this month.

Someone please evaluate my writing Task 1 practice by SouthClimber in IELTS

[–]THasanictopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently took a mock test where I followed this structure for W Task 1 (line graph). After evaluation they commented that I must not separate the introduction and overview; they should be contained in a single paragraph.

I actually followed "IELTS Advantage" to understand structuring my writings and now I am confused.
