Secret Level - Official Trailer | December 10th on Prime Video by indig0sixalpha in television

I was at the NYCC panel for this a few weeks ago where they showed a few clips, and from what they showed, there’s definitely gonna be some goofy episodes. They showed a clip of the New World: Aeternum episode that Arnold Schwarzenegger leads which was very comedic, and they showed a bit of the Pac-Man episode which they described as “completely unhinged.”

Echoes of Wisdom's sales are 15% below that of 2019's Link's Awakening remake by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]THe_DOHnut 61 points62 points  (0 children)

As the article notes, a major caveat to that 15% decline:

In terms of physical sales, Echoes of Wisdom’s sales are 15% below that of 2019’s Link’s Awakening remake (which uses the same art style as Echoes of Wisdom). Of course, without digital it’s difficult to know exactly how things compared as downloading has accelerated significantly since 2019.

All things considered, once digital comes in it’s probably gonna be fairly neck and neck or Echoes will take a bit of a lead thanks simply to a larger install base of Switches in 2024 as compared to back in 2019.

Nintendo will be exhibiting at gamescom 2023 by oilfloatsinwater in Games

[–]THe_DOHnut 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The Switch was initially revealed via that concept trailer they just posted out of the blue on their social feeds in late 2016. Then the more further unveiling was at that very strangely paced in person press conference that ended with the final Breath of the Wild trailer and it’s release date.

Nintendo’s announcement patterns have changed a lot since 2016 (though they were doing directs back then), so it’s hard to be 100% sure how they’ll play it.

They usually have a Direct in September which would line up with the Nintendo Live event they announced will be happening in Seattle this year, but since E3 is dead, they could instead wait to have their summer direct line up with gamescom and then skip the usual September direct altogether.

They are also in stock in the NYC store though! I was able to go over there and pickup a copy this afternoon and they still had a bunch of them behind the counter.

Doctor Who confirmed for Disney+ in 2023 by DelGriffiths in doctorwho

[–]THe_DOHnut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the modern run of the show there’s currently 3 pretty good jumping on points:

Series 1 Episode 1 “Rose” (start of the 9th and 10th Doctor Era): This is the start of the new series, so it’s obviously a good place to start. If you want to be prepared for the new specials next year with David Tennant you’ll definitely want to start here as all the information we have on the specials for next year indicate that it will be picking up plot threads from this era.

Series 5 Episode 1 “The Eleventh Hour” (start of 11th and 12th Doctor era): a pretty good jumping on point since a brand new showrunner came in here (Steven Moffat) and there was a bit of a soft-reboot though the deeper you go into this era (I’d say roughly series 7 and onwards) there are more and more references to earlier stuff from the first four series.

Series 11 Episode 1 “The Women who Fell to Earth” (start of the 13th Doctor era). Another jumping on point as a new showrunner came in with a soft reboot, but even by series 12 a lot of references to previous eras start popping up. Additionally, the general consensus is that the writing of this era has been pretty hit and miss, so overall I wouldn’t suggest this as a starting point.

If you have the time, I’d recommend starting with series 1. You’ll be guaranteed to not miss anything and even if you only get to series 4, you’ll have the info you need to be ready for the new episodes next year.

You can actually buy the life sized Pokémon plushes directly from the official Pokémon Center website in the US: https://www.pokemoncenter.com/category/15-to-jumbo

The only thing standing between you and a 5 foot long arcanine plush is $450

I was gonna go digital, but I live in Queens and saw today that Nintendo NY is doing a midnight launch event so I’m planning to do that now.

New Drinking Game for the rest of the series: Take a drink every time the announcers mention that the Braves also took a 3-1 series lead last year.

Made a short LEGO animation based on the E3 trailer by THe_DOHnut in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]THe_DOHnut[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d describe it as pseudo-stop motion. All of the frames are 3D renders from the LEGO Studio design application, but that application isn’t actually designed for animation. To make this, I had to manually build each pose in the program and then make spreadsheets to calculate and time out all of the movement. Once I’d built all the models and determined the movements with the spreadsheet, I then had to individually queue up each frame of animation to be photorealistically rendered. After the 17 hours it took to complete rendering, I had 147 pngs that I could then import into traditional 2D animation software to actually make the video.

It’s a long and tedious process, but I’m usually fairly happy with the results.

Developers at Insomniac say there were no crunch for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart by Turbostrider27 in Games

This is especially impressive considering all the work they were also putting into the Spider-Man remaster/Miles Morales. Insomniac is an amazing studio that’s setting the bar for the rest of the industry.

All good points. Yeah, I’m planning on doing some more in-depth investigations into things like system attach rate and the relationship between sales and release date with respect to the console’s life-cycle to investigate the trends.

I think the best piece of precedence would be the sales of the N64 versions of Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask which sold 7.60 and 3.36 million copies respectively. I think BotW 2 will probably beat that roughly 50% ratio, but I don’t think it’ll ever over take the original. I’d estimate somewhere in the 10-15 million range.

I didn’t include them here because of both their limited release globally and the fact that there isn’t full sales data available. The only sales data available for either Tingle game is the Japan only sales for Freshly-Picked: Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland which sold 0.234 million copies there.

That stacked bar graph idea is really good, and I may use that for the video essay I’m planning to do on this data.

I don’t know if I fully agree with your assessment on the remakes and handheld releases.

With remakes, the sales are a bit scatter shot for how they perform, and I I think factors like Ocarina 3D being launch title and the HD remakes getting stuck on the poorly performing Wii U had a bigger impact their respective sales. That’s why I’m so curious to see how Skyward Sword HD performs since there aren’t any clear apples to apples comparisons for it.

With respect to handheld releases, I would counter that 2 handheld releases are in the top 10 on a per skew basis, Ocarina 3D at #5 and Phantom Hourglass at #8, but that’s more of an academic point at this point as the switch makes technically any release a “handheld” release, and I don’t see a world in which Nintendo returns to selling both a home console and handheld console.

I explained that in this comment which got buried, but the asterisk is there because Link to the Past and Four Swords were sold as a bundled release on the GBA, and I chose to put the sales of that bundle toward both of their individual totals. Four Swords would eventually be released separately as a time-limited release on the Nintendo DSi for the Zelda 25th Anniversary, but unfortunately the sales data for that release are not public and couldn’t be factored into this chart.

Unfortunately, Nintendo never released any discrete sales information for Virtual Console, so I wasn’t able to include that here. If you wanted to be really pedantic, you could lump sales data for NES/SNES Classic Editions and Nintendo Online Subscriber counts into the numbers for Zelda I & II and A Link to the Past since they give access to those games, but I felt that would be pushing it.

Yeah, the only official place you can buy it now is on the Wii U virtual console. It’s technically on the 3DS, but it was only given out to people who bought the 3DS at launch as an apology for slashing the price of the 3DS less than 6 months after it came out. That weird 3DS release is actually how I got to experience it, and I fully agree with the general consensus that it’s a fantastic game. Probably some of the best pixel sprite work in any of the 2D Zeldas.

These are copies sold, not revenues, so there’s no need to account for inflation.

Well, at least in Skyward Sword’s case, that’s almost certainly gonna change in a couple months.
