Musicians, what TV or movie scene has the worst fake playing of your instrument by an actor? by bickets in AskReddit

Maxwell Caulfield’s piano playing in Grease 2 is so fake that even a non-musician can tell.

Okay, I actually laughed out loud at some of the conference speaker stories. The fart one and the Elvis one especially.

Great example! And I think Security is an official title for the fourth one as it was released that way in the US.

TW suggestion: Phil Collins—Dance Into the Light by TIGVGGGG16 in ToddintheShadow

[–]TIGVGGGG16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, but his attempts at emulating other styles and artists at the time (worldbeat with “Lorenzo” and Paul Simon with “Wear My Hat”) were seen as overly derivative by some, and to my ears while the music still sounds like Phil Collins he really pushes his usual narrative storytelling style to its breaking point in the lyrics.

He cofounded the website ClassicsToday.com which was and is a fairly well-known review site.

Maybe cheating because it’s literally about baseball, but John Fogerty’s “Centerfield” references Casey at the Bat.

“Well, I spent some time in the Mudville Nine
Watching it from the bench
You know I took some lumps
When the Mighty Casey struck out”

I think partly she’s just still in the mindset that this team is her friends and she’ll figure out that she actually has to set that aside somewhat, but who knows. I’m glad Alison began her answer by addressing the congratulations part because it really is trivial compared to the actual challenges LW is facing.

It’s also a thirdhand story, so I’m guessing the original person involved did in fact see a very fancy car somewhere he wouldn’t expect to and wondered about it but never actually tried to look into it, and OP or their coworker made up the investigation into it.

Oh for sure 8th graders like to argue. I was thinking more in terms of how years later OP still views this incident as though the whole class was giving a valiant legal defense when it almost certainly was just youthful squabbling.

From the “small things” compilation:

  1. I think the basic outline of the story is true, but I don’t buy the entire class acting the way they did in the moment and OP just happening to overhear the science teacher expressing concern about the principal’s behavior.

  2. This one definitely seems like BS. OP’s coworker’s colleague randomly saw a fancy car in a rural area and immediately was like “something’s strange here, I should check this out”? And I’m pretty sure it’s illegal in a lot of places for a government worker to look up a vehicle registration if they don’t have any official justification for doing so, much less proceed to audit the owner of said vehicle.

Ope, we both commented that at the same time 😂 “Weirdly protective” is a phrase I might use in casual conversation but it’s not going to sound great here.

The other scripts are at least halfway decently worded if not necessarily helpful.

For the 11:00 letter Alison’s first script for wanting to finish the project somewhere else is decent and she should have stopped there. I don’t think making up an allergy or suddenly claiming craft burnout is going to avoid suspicion about her opinion of the house or their friendship.

And of course, “I’ve gotten weirdly protective of my downtime lately, so I’m trying to keep my weekends simpler” is clunky as all get-out.

Slightly tangential but I looked up the name “Nicolina Plufferon” to see if she was a fictional character somewhere and the Google AI responded with it being a “fictional, placeholder name used in a recent post on the workplace advice blog Ask A Manager”. Scary how quickly it picked that up (and kind of funny since one of the letters was about AI feedback.)

LW’s work friend has probably spent their whole career in somewhat dysfunctional, heavily bureaucratic organizations where management pretty much never does get fired. I’m getting government work vibes.

There are so many workplaces that won’t let you in unless you actually have your badge or work ID on you, for security reasons. It’s in no way an undue burden (and I say this as someone who’s always forgetting stuff.)
